talos Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 I agree they don't fly off the shelves like other sets. My last purchase at my Lego store near me, for some track, I got the switching track sections set, and the packaging inside had advertisements for the red cargo train, the one before 60052. So its been sitting a long time on the shelf, unsold! I was surprised.
Rail Co Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 (edited) Looks like it has been pulled from all the Lego S@H sites. I am wondering if they listed it at the wrong time because it isn't on the Summer 2015 Catalog that came in the mail for the U.S. We can only hope they ran out of stock... Turns out they do not have it listed under the Train category anymore since they ran out of stock, sorry for the false alarm... Edited June 3, 2015 by Rail Co

I got the email about new sets a few days ago and it was under city.
Rail Co Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 (edited) Sorry for another update but I just called U.S. Customer Service and the lady I talked to said there was no details about a U.S. release at this time, so that could be an unfortunate sign that it will not be sold in America... Get your wallets out for the shipping cost. -RailCo Update: Turns out that it is in the City theme at this link http://www.lego.com/en-us/city/products/60098-heavy-haul-train?ignorereferer=true IN the U.S. so maybe it was just an early release in Europe. I guess they made x number of sets on the first production run and it'd take years and years for them to eventually sell through the inventory stock. Long sales cycle it would appear. Kinda like the LUG patches I had made years ago and I still have a few that haven't sold yet.
LegoMavrick Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Here in the UK, last night 60098 was listed as out of stock but right now its showing available at the same price as 60052 at £139.00. Personally I think it looks great and surely it can only be a good thing to see another Train set released not that long after the release of both 60051 and 60052. I know my three year old son is going to just love the fact that it has both a helo and a "digger" ( as he loves to call a back hoe). As always I'd have loved to see more cargo but I really dont see why some here have ranted about the helicopter and the tractor. Mind you it seems to me that there are those that bleat about anything that Lego does in the trains range. For me I absolutely prefer and love the American style range such as the Maersk and 60052 but this new one really grabs me. The crane and double width crossing are a great addition to the set as well as a good quantity of straight and curved track. Whenever I have spoken to Lego here in the UK the train sets are extremely popular and that can only be a good thing. I hope we see some more American style perhaps the new ES44AC loco next!!!
THERIZE Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Just looked at a store for 60098 and it is expected in November...
Rail Co Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 @LegoMaverick, I think that the reason that the trains are so popular in Britain is because the last 2-3 generations have had trains when growing up whether it be through Basset-Lowke, Tri-Ang, Hornby, or Lego. Also along with using the train in Britain as the main mode of transport for many, a lot of people would want a miniature one they can run themselves. @THERIZE, What store and what country did you get that information from? I hope that's just a late date if it is the date for U.S. Thanks, -RailCo
medib Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 I looked on the website, and while the set is not available (yet?) in North America, you can buy replacement parts for most of the set.
zephyr1934 Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Perhaps they don't have the production capacity to supply both markets. Trains may not be a "hotshot" in their production scheduling process. Oh, lego has the capacity, but I think they prefer to do a slow and steady production. Cheaper to have one packing line run for a week than to have seven packing lines run for a day since you reduce the loss time to change them over. That is why they will roll out a line at different times around the world. In this case first a spike of sales in Europe when it is new, then a spike in the US when it is "new" (at least in the past there would be a different theme/set that had the reverse timetable- US first Europe second). I bought a couple switch tracks recently and the packaging was the same as when I bought a couple switch tracks back in 2011. I guess they made x number of sets on the first production run and it'd take years and years for them to eventually sell through the inventory stock. Long sales cycle it would appear. Kinda like the LUG patches I had made years ago and I still have a few that haven't sold yet. Lego does multiple runs of a set without updating the packaging. I think at some point they updated the guardrails on the switches (probably to accommodate the EN) but the packaging never changed... in fact I wouldn't be surprised if they still have long discontinued sets on the packaging. Redesigning the packing costs more money than simply reprinting it. I think they aim to have a few months of stock of a given set in the warehouse, but not much more than that so that they can match production to demand without having much excess at the end of life. I know with the EN there were a few revisions to the instructions over its life (and even one revision to the box art to catch an omission) Just looked at a store for 60098 and it is expected in November... That confirms my suspicion that it will be released for the holidays here. Typically the retailers only carry the trains in the physical stores around the holidays and as I said, I wouldn't be surprised if this is a Toys R Us exclusive (+ lego store of course) I looked on the website, and while the set is not available (yet?) in North America, you can buy replacement parts for most of the set. That would be true lego form, large companies do not always make sense
Duq Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Finally available for Ireland as well. It's 11% cheaper for 11% more parts. Seems like a pretty good deal to me.
phoenix42 Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 That would be true lego form, large companies do not always make sense As someone who works for a large company, this is so true :)

davidmull Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 (edited) Compared to the blue cargo train. True. I heard smyths are dearer though than blue cargo. What u think of the red one duq? Edited June 6, 2015 by davidmull
Rail Co Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 (edited) I just realized something... The 60052 and the 60098 are actually very similar and everyone is criticizing the Heavy-Haul Train. The 60052 1 Loco 2 Flat cars and 1 small car a simple low part crane a loop or track and 2 switches 2 vehicles The 60098 1 loco 2 flat cars 1 hopper car Simple low part crane a medium size loop 2 vehicles a railway crossing So they are very similar and plus the 60098 is going to be a little bit cheaper I have heard so I think it's a good set and when it comes out in the U.S. I plan to pick one up -Railco Edited June 6, 2015 by Rail Co

Most other sets have 2 long cars and 1 short. The hopper is nice though.
Duq Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 True. I heard smyths are dearer though than blue cargo. What u think of the red one duq? I don't quite get what you're saying. A toy shop is dearer than a Lego set? This year you just shouldn't buy Lego in shops in Ireland; Smyths, Art and Hobby and Argos are all 10%-15% above the Shop at Home price and that's before VIP points. 60052 is €179.99 on Shop at Home, €199.99 in Smyths. I don't think much of the red one in terms of looks and it lacks points/switches. As mentioned above though, it's much better value for money.
THERIZE Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 @THERIZE, What store and what country did you get that information from? I hope that's just a late date if it is the date for U.S. Thanks, -RailCo im from Holland (europe). I saw it on 'brickshop'. And that is strange because brickshop usually is the store with the first new LEGO sets in the shelves.
