Sandy Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 "Hope you find what you are looking for", Ellaria muttered at Hybros' back. "And not something else..." She then settled down at the entrance of the library, waiting for the others to get ready. Quote
Zepher Posted September 25, 2014 Author Posted September 25, 2014 "Only a few? Could we not come back down here from the way we came and bring them all up?" Nonetheless, Hybros began trawling anxiously through the books, looking for one that would indicate anything about his people. "Erm, Doctor, I could use a little help with the letters, eheh..." "How did we get down here, Hybros? I was drilling, a witch appeared, and I went to another world before reappearing here. I do not know how to reverse-engineer that process. I do not know where our drill is, and there was no hole in the roof of the cavern when we awoke, as far as I could tell." Daneeka skims the list of books. "There is a history of the conquering of this land. The word conquering implies there were people here before whoever built all this. If what we saw in the forest was one of your people, they may have been the indigenous people of this land. I can direct you to that book." Quote

The word conquering implies there were people here before whoever built all this. If what we saw in the forest was one of your people, they may have been the indigenous people of this land. Zepher Posted September 26, 2014 Author Posted September 26, 2014 OoC: Pandora, I am well aware you have your hands full at the moment!! So, as always, I will be moving things along for everyone else, but if you retro-actively wish to select some books to salvage, that's a-okay with me. No worries either way. "I've already found my books, Daneeka. I'll take Hybros to the history book, you find some books that interest you." Daneeka nods, and Heweyrt begins to lead Hybros down a series of shelves. In a far corner, they can hear some rustling as someone sifts through books. They round a corner, and find Deborah, attempting to reach a book on a tall shelf. Heweyrt nods to her, and continues to lead Hybros in another direction. Eventually he comes to a stop, and picks up an old tome. He begins to skim it. "This land was once harsh and wild," he begins to summarize. "And there were creatures here. The Paladins, the conquerers, called them demons. These Paladins had not yet forged their bond with Ennoc - though they would later. So they had no angels to ward off the demons. The fighting was bloody and fierce. The so-called demons knew how to use ancient magic of forest and earth, and the Paladins could not defeat them. So their chief mages worked on a magic similar to that of the dragon's." Heweyrt pauses, and looks up from the book. "When a dragon dies, it may use its soul to complete a final act. It is an ancient ability." He returns to the book. "At the cost of their soul, the Paladins were able to vanquish the indigenous people to the realm of the demons. To Zoot's realm." Heweyrt snaps the book shut. He scowls. "Such is the cost of progress sometimes. But it does not make the past any less bloody. It is too often that one race feels they must destroy the other to prosper. The new always kills the old." "Come here!" echoes Daneeka's voice throughout the Library. Heweyrt tosses the book to Hybros and they follow the voice, finding a different exit to the Library. They are on a city street: the other heroes, Deborah, and the Minoid arrive behind them in the matter of a minute. Before them stands Daneeka, a statue, and a set of large black doors. Bits of swirling darkness spill through the doors, and as they approach, the heroes can hear whispering from far off. Nyx, Skrall and Hybros all feel a shiver run down their spine. The doors are identical to ones they've seen before. Even in this dark place, hidden below all they know... even here there are doors to the realm of Chaos. "This statue stands eternal guard over the passageway," Daneeka says, reading the inscription. "This is where they vanquished the original peoples of this land," says Heweyrt. "What say you, heroes. Shall we peek into the darkness and find a lost race?" Quote
JimBee Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Hybros listens with eyes wide open. He barely recalls Daneeka's shout and the route over to him. He suddenly finds himself in front of the door, all of the information in front of him. He stares straight ahead. "This... This is it. This is what I have been searching for. The creature in my vision... That was one of my own. They lived here, in Uland, long ago... That is why I was brought to Heroica. That is why I had a vision in Wren's dungeon. This is my purpose..." He held Zoot's Reaper in his hands. It has begun whispering loudly in his head, as it did on many occasions before that: in the Temple of Zoot, in the realm of the Moon Elves. The Pheles Rod, too, had whispered to him. The archdemon of gluttony had spoken to him. Both manifestations seemed to compel him towards something, a destination of his journey. That destination was here. The only concern - what did his people have to do with these ancient realms and the doings of angels and demons? The possibilities were... Disturbing to him. Hybros felt numb to the emotions. "It is time." Time to find his people. Quote

If yer race were vanquished to that realm, there's no tellin' the effects it has wrought upon them. Ya saw the corruptin' influence that realm had on Wren, we've seen it's effects on our fellow heroes. There's no tellin' what we'd unleash on this world if we opened that door." As Hybros leaned forward away from the ogre, luminous figures appeared ready to attack. "Not good, Hybros do you really want to pursue this? Think upon my words." Quote
Sandy Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Ellaria followed Hybros silently, hearing her heart beat loudly. Suddenly a luminous figure appears in front of her, blocking her view of the others. She quickly swings her staff at it from the back row. Quote
Pandora Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 OoC: Sorry, going to fill in some bits... Tell me, Nyx, what was it that you found there when you visited?" She frowns, remembering. "Well, the short answer is trouble. The less-short answer is the Court of Regret, some old gods, Zoot and his temple, crazy Wren and her chaos beasts, death, lots of it, and someone who means a lot to me despite my better judgement. And a whole load of craziness, and some fun." Nyx blushes slightly "The long answer is reeaally long" she adds hurriedly. OoC: Pandora, I am well aware you have your hands full at the moment!! So, as always, I will be moving things along for everyone else, but if you retro-actively wish to select some books to salvage, that's a-okay with me. No worries either way. OoC: Thanks for the understanding, and sorry to hold anyone up. It's completely right you should keep things moving. Nyx's eyes almost pop as she looks around the library. "This is amaaazing!" she gasps, staring around the vaulted room "Do you think there are books about gods and demons? Or about the origins of magic? That's what I'd like to look for. All this knowledge shouldn't go to waste, no matter who left it here." she pauses, gulps slightly and ploughs on regardless, albeit in a smaller voice "And, maybe I could find out something about me, too? But I- I'm not sure whether I'd even be looking in the right places. But this feels like the kind of place that might hold all sorts of knowledge." Nyx has never looked so vulnerable, admitting that in front of friends and strangers. OoC: In order to keep things going, here are Nyx's battle actions. Sorry for the messy post. "I am always ready to fight, if you want me to, Hybros." Nyx clutches her (original) Amethyst in one hand and her Book in the other, preparing to cast a Darkness spell at the soul in front of her, from the back row. Quote

Sandy Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Ellaria was surprised she had been able to actually poison the light creature, but that only made things simpler. She repeated her attack. OoC: Boy am I glad poisoning stacks nowadays. Quote

Zepher Posted September 29, 2014 Author Posted September 29, 2014 OoC: I'm going to give Pandora another hour or so to post, but if not I will move things right on along! For the time being, however, I will respond to her response - think of it a little like a flashback. ~Before the Fight, After Heweyrt and Hybros headed off~ "I've already got the book on Gods and Demons," says Deborah as she approaches the heroes holding up a big book. "Heweyrt requested it. Maybe you can split it. Origins of magic we can do, though." Daneeka skims the pages. "I can lead you to it." He says. He and Nyx take off down an aisle. Eventually Daneeka stops, and points. "It is up there. I will go collect my other books." Nyx reaches it and flips it open. Sadly, there are no pictures, and without Heweyrt or Daneeka she is unable to figure out what the words mean. Just then, she hears Daneeka exclaim. ~End Flashback~ Quote

JimBee Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 OOC: I should've dealt more damage before I went down thanks to my power boosts ([5+1]x2=12 more damage). Skrall could revive Hybros, or try to help Ellaria defeat hers so Roots of Life will work, or just wait it out and attack another soul to minimize free hits. Hybros managed to fling one orb of darkness towards the soul in front of him before the light consumed him. He fell, realizing his failure, and hoped his allies would survive long enough to revive him... "No... I can not fail now..." he murmured in an unconscious state. Battle Order: Nyx Deborah Skrall Ellaria Hybros Hybros Quote
Sandy Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 OoC: You forgot to deplete Ellaria's health. Possession can't be removed by a remedy, I assume? Ellaria jolted as she felt a surge of pain hit her. The light creature had done something to her without her knowing what. Not succumbing to the pain, Ellaria kept on attacking the Light Soul from the back row. Quote
Zepher Posted September 30, 2014 Author Posted September 30, 2014 OoC: This is the final fight! Don't give up on me now. JimBee, if you'd like to submit an action for WBD in case he doesn't manage to get on himself, that'd be great. Possession cannot be removed with a remedy. Quote
JimBee Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 OOC: If WBD doesn't post, Skrall attacks Light Soul A from the back row with the Hunter's Crossbow. EDIT: Weird, we posted the same thing at the same time Quote
Sandy Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 OoC: So if AoE-attacks won't work on other enemies until the user's enemy is defeated, then I reckon Roots of Life won't work on anybody else than Ellaria, either? Practically she needs to get rid of my personal enemy before she can help Hybros or anyone else... Just making sure I've understood it correctly. Quote
Zepher Posted September 30, 2014 Author Posted September 30, 2014 Correct. If Skrall prioritized freeing you, you would be able to bring the others back (should you roll a shield). It would cost Skrall some free hits, though. Is it worth it? I don't know. I'm not the one trying to strategize this battle. I will run the round in about an hour! Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 OoC: Woops, thought I had already replied. I'd probably end up killing Ellaria by doing a ton of damage so I'm hesitant to target Light Soul D. Skrall watched as Hybros went down, the ogre nocked another arrow and took aim at Light Soul A from the back row. Quote
