arc Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Kre-O are even worse than Megabloks. How they keep getting licenses is beyond me. I eagerly await the new sets. I am quite hopeful that we'll get sets from the previous movies, because I need a Jeff Goldblum fig. and don't forget the long awaited Dennis nedry minifig. (Well, long awaited by me anyway) Quote

I am quite hopeful that we'll get sets from the previous movies, because I need a Jeff Goldblum fig. They already own most of them (Battleship, GI Joe, Transformers... they all belong to Hasbro). The only licences they got are D&D and Star Trek, which pretty much are cheaper versions of LEGO's Hobbit/LOTR and Star Wars themes. Quote

Dinobrick Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 I hope we get an allosaurus, I'm not too excited for the so called "d-rex". Quote
Dragonlego27 Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 I doubt that D-rex will differ hugely from any "normal" dinosaur, although from some written descriptions it may sound quite bizarre, I vaguely remember how one description stated it's DNA was part cuttlefish, although does not mean it will look abnormal, weren't the Dinosaurs from the first film's DNA mixed with lizard or frog genes? From what I can tell, it will merely be like most predators, just with more teeth and spikes. Maybe that might be nothing to get excited about, but I'm hyped for that thing's lego form, especially with the rumours that it might be in a monorail set. I also love the idea of an aquarium set with a mosasaur, and all those trans pieces Quote
SMC Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 I think you might be a little hopeful a licensed monorail set with big molded dinosaurs could be the most over priced ever. I would love it but don't think we will get a monorail and an big aquarium is unlikely too. Quote

Just speculation, but since the plot in the original film allowed the frog DNA to manifest itself in the dinos giving birth, then I'd assume there's a specific reason for the 'part cuttlefish' idea. From what we know of cuttlefish it seems most likely this is to do with giving it some colour change or camouflage ability. Quote

And trans pieces: :D Edited November 2, 2014 by Dinobrick Quote
gedren_y Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Yes, cuttlefish have the ability to produce complex color patterns on their skin, but perhaps a more important feature is their neurology. A cuttlefish's neural processing is spread out through its body. In this way the cuttlefish is like a network of computers. Give a large theropod dinosaur the camouflage ability and the brain power to use it, and you are in trouble. Hopefully the sets will live up to the hype. Quote
Dragonlego27 Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 I thought that as it's part cuttlefish, it could have some sort of shell or exo-skeleton (even stupider than what the Jurassic World designers will probably come up with, I know) but I forgot about their ability to change the colour of their skin as camouflage. Good call williejm. Also apologies for mistaking D-Rex for a hybrid dinosaur and not a movie monster, I merely gained the wrong impression with D-Rex, remarkably similar to T-Rex. I agree that with the new monster's range of abilities we have deduced already, and likely many more, the guys in Jurassic World are screwed and it's gonna be one hell of a lego set. Shame about the aquarium, but maybe we can get a Mosasaurus in a river set with a boat or pier or something, although it would have been able to show us more of the buildings in lego and given us loads of trans Quote
SMC Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Shame about the aquarium, but maybe we can get a Mosasaurus in a river set with a boat or pier or something Yeah if we get a Mosasaurus that is the kind of set I would expect. A cuttlefish exo-skeleton and neurology = Things you don't expect to talk about on a lego site. Quote

Dragonlego27 Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 I did say my idea was stupid . And yes, I should have know better that they don't have shells, it's a cuttlebone. Sorry for my ignorance on cuttlefish anatomy . It's not my usual topic of discussion. Going back on topic, as it does not sound like Lego will be giving us sets from the first three films in the first wave, what are the chances of a second wave based on the first trilogy? In other waves such as Lone Ranger or PotC we've only had one wave. Will Jurassic Park sets be different? Quote
Dinobrick Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 It's fine, just letting you know. I hope we get a classic trilogy wave. With a brachiosaurus! :D perhaps the big set of the wave could be the lodge, it could be based off the final act and feature the main characters, the big one and her buddies, and the star of the show, rexy herself. Maybe the $20 set could be the jeep and dilophosaur, the $30 set could be the explorers. Compies could make up the small "battle pack" like sets, another set we should see could be the camper. Quote
Dragonlego27 Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 (edited) I definitely think we need a raptor battle pack, with some random humans, 2-3 raptors and a jeep. I think if we don't get a T-Rex in the JW wave, we'll definitely get one if we get a second JP wave. But what I want most is a new Spinosaurus, now officially the largest of all carnivore dinosaurs and my most favourite lizard of all time. I've seen the old one and it truly is as rubbish as everyone says-but a new one? I would buy ten of any set it came in , even if the rest of the set was a massive mess of green and brown bricks to represent trees and the minifigures were yellow . I just googled dilophosaur, and I agree that would be truly awesome . They could even do the flaps (someone feel free to correct me on their actual term) like Smaug's wings, so they can outstretch, then just tuck in by it's head. arc Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 I second a raptor "battle pack". maybe they could do it jp3 style with a couple raptors, grant, and a small tree build. I just googled dilophosaur, and I agree that would be truly awesome . They could even do the flaps (someone feel free to correct me on their actual term) like Smaug's wings, so they can outstretch, then just tuck in by it's head. it's called a frill. Quote
Dinobrick Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 There is no term for the flaps, as they never existed, they were made only for the movie. They were absent in the books. I'd be fine with yellow figs. All this peach skin is getting old, please lego don't give in and give us fuzzysaurus, please! (For future consideration, I am not a fan of "give every archosaur feathers"). As for a Spinosaurus, in sheer mass Giganotosaurus was larger, Tyrannosaurus had more bite, spino was basicly an oversized kingfisher. Its jaws were weak and the teeth too narrow to put it on par with the larger "carnosaurs." Like all baryonoids, it would have relied on its arms. Quote
Dragonlego27 Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Spinosaurus may be a bit pathetic in animal kingdom terms but I won't care about how puny it is compared to other predators when I make it eat my poor pathetic humans . I didn't know the dilophosaur frills were fabricated, whether fictional or not it would still be a good dinosaur figure regardless. I hope we get it, one thing Lego Dinos showed was that Lego could benefit from a wider range of Dinosaurs. Dinobrick, It's interesting you brought up your "dinofeatherphobia", I was about to ask if there has ever been any archaeopteryxes in Jurassic Park. A Salecious Crumb style rubber figure of one of those, with a stud at the bottom and the wings outstretched, would send me on an endless quest to get as many of them as possible . It could even be a pet. On the subject of a raptor battlepack, another idea I quite liked was one posted earlier on this forum of including one raptor figure with every set. Of course, lego could do both . Quote
Dinobrick Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Yay they were added so the audience wouldn't confuse it for the raptors. No, it has never appeared in the movies. The closest we got was the compies. "Dinofeatherphobia", ha. I guess I am. I guess I just like 90's Dinos. Lego, give us an allosaurus! Please? Or a stegosaur? Anything other than the usual rex/raptor/trike combo would be unimaginably cool. Quote

After the dino sets which were great I wanted a pack of raptors all the same so I hope we get at least 3 or 4 within the sets without having to get doubles. Quote
Borador Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Dinofeatherphobia? That's a new one. I prefer my dinosaurs fuzzy, with lotsa feathers. They can be so stunning. The different patterns and colors that some illustrators come up with are just fantastic. I am always sadened when a new piece of science fiction comes out that involves dinosaurs and they have no feathers (even more irritating is when they call a dinosaur that is clearly Deinonychus or some other large dromaesaurid "velociraptor" in what is clearly an attempt to imitate Jurassic Park. That agitates me to no end. It was fine for Jurassic Park, but after that it just got old). There has got to be someone in Hollywood who knows how lovely feathered dinosaurs can be. Surely, there MUST be someone who can break from the monotonous crowd of lizards... Anyways, more on topic. The more I hear about this movie, the less I want to see it. Cuttlefish? Really? Frogs made sense, but they're just throwing whatever crap they got into this thing. Might as well make him part shark and have a bunch of them get together in tornado and fly around eating people. And while you're at it, throw in a weird hybrid of a dog and an anaconda, because why not? Sheesh, this thing sounds terrible. I just hope this "Diabolous-Rex" (the name is as lame as the premise) looks like a regular T-Rex, and there better be Raptors in this or it'll be a total failure. If I may be honest, having a Raptor battle pack would make this whole thing worth it. I would love that, not just a fan of Jurassic Park, but of LEGO as well. That would be a dream. I hope they do sets from the first trilogy, or at least the first film... It doesn't look like they will though. Quote

Ya, sea Cuttles (as their not fish), snakes and whatevery else they decide to add to the DNA broth is just making it seem like this new director wants to make JP into a monster horror film. Sigh. But maybe even if this film is a complete flop, lego can restore our faith in the jp franchise with really cool sets. You can do it lego, give us sets that will blow us away! Quote
Dragonlego27 Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 (edited) I think that D-Rex will look a bit like a T-Rex, just bigger, with a larger skull and jaw for more teeth and (I am trying to think like the people animating this thing, so don't blame me if it sounds dumb) giant spikes along it's back. All I'm getting so far is a wingless dragon which can turn invisible . Sorry to all those dinofeatherphobics out there, but by the sound of it, many dinosaurs were actually feathered. I heard something a while back (please don't shoot me down on this if I'm wrong) that palaeontologists had discovered a feathered T-Rex in Japan, or some other country near it (sorry if I'm a bit vague, it really was ages ago.) Of course, although I find feathered dinos interesting, I think lego would have difficulties producing that in Lego form, so unless a Dinosaur is specifically feathered, like archaeopteryx , lego should keep them (skinned, scaled?) as usual. As for D-Rex looking like a T-Rex, I get the feeling it's actually going to kill one. They did the same with Spinosaurus after all, it's kind of customary for the new "alpha predator" to kill the last one. Of course, it may defeat a Spinosaurus to prove just how deadly it is , but I doubt the producers want to remind us of JP3. I too would like a Stegosaurus (or some sauruopod) would be nice too, anything in fact from the usual rex/raptor/trike/pterosaur formula, although I would like multiples of the first two in sets , just more exotic species as well.
