Bornin1980something Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 The set I was most anticipating, based on the Brickset review, was the Raptor Rampage. Now we have the images, I think the most attractive set is the Dilophosaurus Ambush. Remembering that toys are not necessarily slavish re-creations of movie scenes (the original Kenner Jurassic Park toys were almost never accurate), this set appears to be based on scenes from the new movie and the first movie. The Jeep like vehicle is in new movie colours, but with its front winch it could easily be used to reenact Dennis Nedry's final scene. I was also pleasantly surprised to see a gyrosphere in one of the cheaper sets, as the Indominus Rex Breakout is probably beyond my Lego budget. I'm also interested to see that the kid is represented by a full minifigure, rather than a short legged figure. I was surprised by criticism of the truck in the Raptor Rampage, as I think it is an amazingly accurate representation of the real vehicle, considering it is made out of Lego. It is a great impression of a Unimog, while I suppose the back end could be modified. I would love to see at alongside the cutesy Friends Vet Ambulance some time! The T Rex Tracker appears to be based on the Triceratops Trapper from the 2012 dino line. It might be a hypothetical impression of how the T Rex was recaptured from the ruins of Jurassic Park. Personally, I think having her back in captivity is a bit of a happy ending override. I would love to see her get out again! Of the dinosaurs, the raptors are certainly large! They are not quite as oversize as the name raptor implies, as Jurassic Park's raptors were always more like a larger (but not that large) dinosaur officially classified as Deinonychus, meaning terrible claw (actually an appropriate name in context). The best of these dinos are probably the Dilophosaurus and the T Rex. I still fear the movie might become a monster movie with too much focus on the I-Rex. I agree I'd have liked to see some more herbivores. And to those saying that only the violent dinosaurs are popular, have you ever seen a kid who likes dinosaurs? The triceratops is easily among the most popular, certainly more so than dilophosaurus (not that I'm upset to be getting one of those). Stegosaurs too. I would have loved a big set that hat a cool looking brick built brachiosaurus. On the better side of things, I'm really pretty excited about getting a tyrannosaurs in a $50 set, considering the ones we have now tend to run for that much on their own on ebay and bricklink. This whole "carnivores are more interesting than herbivores because they are more violent" seems extremely stupid to me. Really, I'd be extremely annoyed if Jurassic World doesn't at least acknowledge that herbivores tend to be exponentially more aggressive than carnivores. If you're in a jeep, a lion won't attack you, but a rhinoceros may attempt to ram it. And hippos are the most deadly animal in africa. They have been known to kill crocodiles. And most herbivores will turn omnivorous if they get the chance; it's free, easy-to-digest* food. *Compare the digestive system of a cow to that of almost any carnivore. Cellulose takes a lot of energy to process. Yes, despite my somewhat harsh words, I believe it was a mistake to miss out the herbivores entirely from this range. They could at least of revived the old Triceratops mould, as that dinosaur would be appearing in the movie, appeared in the earlier movies, and is also a potential adversary for meat eaters. Also, some scientists now believe that they were omnivorous! I am only really familiar with the first Jurassic Park movie, which I believe made the old mistake of casting herbivores as good animals and carnivores as bad animals, a belief which, in real life, led to the culling of wolves at Yellowstone National Park. I believe the second movie featured some herbivore attacks, but according to the Horror Film wiki all actual deaths were at the hands (or terrible claws) of carnivores. Same is true for the third movie, and though I am a little nervous about massive deaths, I kind of hope this will be the first JP movie to featured death by herbivore. In particular, the Gyrosphere is too slow to survival a stampede, and who in their right mind would tickle a Triceratops behind its frill? While the Lego line doesn't feature any herbivores at the moment, the Hasbro line actually features a 'Stegoceratops,' an unlikely hybrid dinosaur which is actually similar to one featured in the 1983 fantasy Yor, The Hunter From The Future (where it attacks humans). Lego did actually ones do a line of individual dinosaurs in 2001, including a Brachiosaurus, several babies, and a small Mosasaurus. These are now rare, but can be surprisingly reasonably priced (at the moment). I'd say get them while you can! Bricklink In the meantime, I've been experimenting with combining a couple of dinosaurs from the Schleich range with Lego figures. While the ones I chose might be a little small, they could represent a younger dinosaurs if used alongside Lego (the largest dinosaurs found were probably very old). Sensible use of toys like this might help kids and Lego fans create their own version of a Jurassic Park. I still think Lego should be more about creativity than action toys! Everybody walk the dinosaur! Looks gentle, till it sneezes! If you could sleep that deep, honey, you'll be dead. Quote
VictorFrenchFries Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 ^ Herbivores are interpreted as dangerous in the movies. They're not really present in the first one, but The Lost World had a stegosaurus that almost killed the main characters. Also the pachycephalosaurus and triceratops most likely killed the hunters during their breakout. Quote
Boettner Builds Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 The way I see it, I'm going to pay the "now" prices. I've missed too many sets and I WILL NOT pay the crazy "you can't get it anymore" prices. Quote

I've missed too many sets and I WILL NOT pay the crazy "you can't get it anymore" prices. I have the same feeling. I really regret not buying any of the Dino sets; because now it's basically impossible to get any one dinosaur for anything close to what constitutes "cheap". I think I would be more picky on the builds for these sets if say it were for another theme--but really for me (and I'm sure many people), it's all about the dinosaurs! So any second chance I have to get some--especially the cool new dinosaurs, is a chance I'm going to take. Quote

It's kind of funny how the Jurassic Park "Velociraptors" don't even look like reasonably accurate Deinonychi anymore, thanks to the revised anatomy indicated by recent studies. Also, I'm pretty sure the focus will be on the I. Rex. I have no doubt that they won't make it a semi-sapient bad guy, with the sort of intelligence demonstrated by the raptors in the earlier movies. In other news, I hope that this time, they don't make all of the characters seem like idiots. But then again, I doubt they'll do that, since adding remote-activateable collars filled with anesthetics, which would be the logical approach, would make it very short movie. The whole making-a-new-dinosaur-out-of-bits-and-pieces-of-others-thing also kind of spoils that possibility.Back on-topic, I hope that they release some larger pterosaurs at some point. The generic Pteranodon is cool and all, but kind of boring compared to, say, a Quetzalcoatlus. And, like everyone else, I hope that a possible second wave will feature the mosasaur. I have fond memories of the Dinosaurs theme mosasaur, and with the improved techniques and lack of multi-build constraint, I have full confidence that the modern equivalent of that set would be awe-inspiring. Risgrynsgrot Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 The Indominus Rex will definitively be the main baddie, with the Velociraptors being chaotic good guys (They all have names and distinct looks, so if anything I expect they want us to care for them as they get killed by the Indominus) and the director Trevorrow is a huge JP1 fan so I expect the T-Rex (remember, it's the same one as in Jurassic Park) is also gonna be a chaotic good guy, either killing the Indominus herself or pushing it into the Mosasaurus pool. Also the Indominus have opposable thumbs, I seriously don't hope that it's revealed it has human DNA which is the reason it's so evil. Quote
Ultron Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 I wish the indominus Rex had wings. It already looks pretty cool, but it would be cooler if it could fly! Quote
Tom Jurassic Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 I wish the indominus Rex had wings. It already looks pretty cool, but it would be cooler if it could fly! And then everyone in the park would be well and truly done for! Quote
Mandate Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 And then everyone in the park would be well and truly done for! Who knows? Maybe it's capable of parthenogenesis (breeding by itself). Some sharks and reptiles are capable of this, so it's not entirely out of the question. Although I most certainly hope this doesn't happen, for the sake of the JP world and the story Quote

I got back into Lego right when the Dino sets were being cleared off shelves and retired. I debated buying them all, but never did and seriously regret it now. My only hope is Lego does a second Jurrasic World or Park wave and include the triceratops dino and the coelophysis from the Dino line. Quote

DraikNova Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 (edited) Indominus Rex having wings would kinda violate the Jurassic Park/World's "no feathers" rule. Edited February 23, 2015 by DraikNova Quote
Actor Builder Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 (edited) Indominus Rex having wings would kinda violate the Jurassic Park/World's "no feathers" rule. Pterodactyls have wings, but no feathers... I wonder how the Human Hamster Balls will open for a Minifig... Will they just be two clear domes that connect to the seat? I sort of see the connection point, but it confuses me. Just took a look at it again. I guess we just have to disassemble it every time a Minifig wants a ride. gedren_y Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 The sphere looks to be similar to the Christmas ornament sets. Not the exact same mold, but similar. Quote
DraikNova Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Pterodactyls have wings, but no feathers... But Indominus Rex is a fusion of dinosaurs. Quote
MarvinM Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I don't know if you guys talked about this but regarding the non official silhuoette picture from the sets it wasn't way off. At all. Maybe some parts of another set were put into another (the D-Rex set having two spheres to the actual single sphere while the dilophosaurus set is missing it) This leads me to believe that maybe the tower shown in the pteranodon set might actually belong to the Raptor Rampage set we are currently missing. DraikNova Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Actually, lizards and iguanas are completely seperate from the group Archosauria, which includes dinosaurs, pterosaurs and crocodiles. Quote

I think and hope you are spot on, I thought the same thing when the pictures first came out. egg roller Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Are turtles dinosaurs? It might be cool if the indominous rex had a turtle shell AND wings right? Just kidding. Will the white ind rex be very useful being white? It's a sweet fig and all, but for repurposing? Who knows. I hope this movie is as awesome as the trailer. Quote
