"Might be one of the treasure hunters." Boomingham edges in towards Em. "You're leading us now, huh? Listen, if we get the chance, I think it'd be a smart move to let in those others at the gate. The Regret seems pretty certain that numbers don't matter, but I think it'd be worth a shot, at least."

"I agree. At the very least, they will provide a suitable distraction," Mortimer replies, still scanning the area for the source of the voice. "If they get slaughtered, I'd rather them do it in here than out there, for our sakes."

"Provoking a fight with those guarding the citadel, might draw more attention our way. The treasure hunters may be getting slaughtered, but they are keeping at least a portion of the citadel's defenses occupied and distant from our destination." As he said this, Jeaux closed off his sight to better discern the origin of the female's voice in the event that she spoke again.

Karie's arm was burning slightly from the new inky substance wrapped around her arm, seeming intertwining with her previous tattoo. She readies herself as the voice of the woman echoes about.

"I'd prefer it if you showed yourself, whoever you are."

"No, we aren't," Mortimer replies, tense, his head cocked to the left. "Are you?"

"I am not..."

"You're correct, sir..."

"Sorry, mannequin, you won't be able to see me..."

"...Okay. You won't be able to help me otherwise."

With that, the party turns to the voice, and watches as the girl reveals herself, pulling of a billowing sheet from her prone body.

The girl was brunette, a pool of venom seeping into her torso. It seems like she was poisoned. The shimmering cloth falls at ther side.

"Invisiblity cloak... Neat trick, huh? Either way... I got poisoned by that demon... Seerus. Could... Could one of you heal me?"

Posted

Karie, taking note of the wound, motions for her to come closer, though keeps her hand on Sexy's hilt. If she could lead her to Seerus...

"I'm willing to look you over, but trust is something that's hard to come by in here. You got a name?"

"Alice. My name is Alice. That woman who got turned into painting back in the tunnel here? She was... Is... my sister. I took my invisibility cloak and ran, and well... Now here we are."

Alice staggers up, and only manages a couple steps before toppling back down.

"Damn poison..."

Posted

"Good enough for me."

Karie gives Alice a remedy and looks her wounds over.

"Do you know where Seerus went? Have you seen him since... well, you fled? I've got my own score to settle with this chump, and my friend with the eyepatch does too."

Alice eagerly drinks the remedy, staving off the poison.

"I... Yes. Kind of? My sister told me to run, and I did... I spent some time trying to figure out that crematorium lock. After that, I came here, and... Seerus ambused me. He took the tonics I had on me, recharged his ether, poisoned me, and warped away. Who knows where he is now..."

Mortimer clicks his teeth, unsure of how to feel about his eyepatch being mentioned. He pulls out a potion, handing it to the woman.

"Tch. Drink up. I'd rather you not slow us down. If you can stand, come with us. Nowhere is safe, but your best bet is behind my shield." As if to prove his point, Mortimer taps on his shield proudly, though the look on his face is a grimace. He didn't sound very confident, either. Another side effect of his lost eye..?

Karie puts a hand on Em's potion.

"You're going to need that." She then heals Alice instead, her stomach feeling off from the bits of blood. She notices Em's lack of confidence. "Let me take a look at your eye once I'm done, Em. The last thing you want is an infection."

Posted

"It's fine," comes the gruff reply. "Worry about getting her on her feet. We can move on from there."

Sighing, Mortimer stands and glances around, doing his best to keep watch. "The only thing that'd stop infection would be putting something in the socket. The eyepatch should be preventative enough until we kill everything."

"I patched him up good enough," grunts Boomingham. "Hi Alice. My name is Lawrence Boomingham. I'm sorry about what happened to your sister. If we can, we will save her. We've got a man named Masson who met a similar fate, and we're not leaving this Citadel until we get him back. So we can save your sister as well."

"No, no... You can't. She's just... Ink on the wall, probably. You must've saw her, right? In that big cavern in the tunnel on the way here? My sister was the leader of the hunting group that got cursed and turned into portraits. She gave me this inviisiblity cloak, and told me to scram... It's almost definitely too late. If the ink of the portrait isn't dry, you can crack the canvas, and that breaks the curse. But... Even if we were to run back down, it's probably too late.

She's gone now..."

Alice hangs her head low.

Boomingham chews on his lower lip. "If Seerus means to use Masson... he'll be released from the canvas. I guess he must have made sure that he'd be where he needed to be by the time the ink dried. I am sorry for your lose. You know a lot about this canvas curse, but Seerus knows more. If we can force him, perhaps he has a way to break it. Perhaps not. Best you can do is give him Hel, and we can help you with that."

"If you ran and hid when your companions were attacked than you will likely be of little use to us. We are here to destroy the master of this citadel and we cannot afford to waste resources or effort trying to protect someone who cannot take care of herself." Jeaux spoke with a straight forward tone that depicted no malice or anger, but rather a simple lack of compassion. "Though that invisibility cloak could prove to be useful up ahead if you are willing to part with it."

"Listen, automaton, this isn't the time for all that mumbo jumbo no heart or soul sort of thing." Boomingham draws closer. "Little trick about humans - they're generally more helpful when they think what they're doing matters. So if she believes she will make or break this team, she might end up helping make this team, got it?" Upon turning away, Boomingham shoots Em a concerned look and jerks his thumb at the automaton before rolling his eyes.

Mortimer shrugs, muttering to Boomingham. "He's cold, but he's dependable. We need him."

Turning back to Alice, Mortimer decides to continue questioning her. "Why did you and your sister come here, anyways? Treasure? Adventure, maybe?"

"Great pep talk. And then asking me to give up a family heirloom? Who do you think you are?

Minus that... Dreadful mannequin, I'd atleast like to try helping you guys..."

"Don't worry about him. At the very least, you can cover my blind spot-- so you'll be of use. Come with us."

Mortimer tries his best to smile, though the grin is skewed. The look on his face would instill more fear than comfort.

"Let's move on, shall we?"
