You people may be of "strong moral character", but I'm certainly not. I teleported in here like the coward I am to rob a demon of scroll, and use it to exact revenge. If he offered me even an iota of power, I would seize it. That is why I am not going with you, and that is why I'm content to leave things here. Now. Are you people ready?" People can get away with bad things, they can be forgiven, sure. But not once I've been punished for my crimes. Time I changed that. But I trust your group to put an end to this." Marcus's hands begin to glow blue as he muters something beneath his breath - arcane magic words, weaving a spell around the heroes. Their vision begins to get obscured by a blue light, their senses being dulled and slowly reduced to nothing. They can feel a jolt, and then a lurching - unexpected, but not lethal. Before they know it, they are being flung to a distant location. Marcus removes his gloves, his cape, and peels down his hood. He lies down, and waits for the cold to overtake him. "Doing something for someone, selflessly. Heh. Feels almost nostalgic." ------------------------------------ "They did WHAT?!" "They... teleported, sir. Past our ambush." The Regret unhinges. "Dammit! You should've had that Marcus killed, not imprisoned! Dammit... I am conducting the grandest of orchestra here, Seerus! I cannot have them deviating from the fate I have written for them! ...Careless. Careless on account of all parties. And the Oculoids you used were the guards for the interception room, weren't they? That's another ambush ruined. Nnnrgh... ...Enough time has passed. Masson has metabolized the steroids by now. Time to drop the hammer on them. Seerus, dispatch our new Commander. I have to rectify this oversight." ------------------------------------------------ When the light of the spell disspates, the heroes find themselves being picked up by large metal claws, and deposited onto an iron platform. Enduring the odd spell, as well as seeing its power first hand, gave the heroes more experience. "Organic matter detected. Defer to alternate security for identification and disposal." With that, the claw returns to its work, apparently content with handing the heroes off to someone else. The heroes look around their surroundings, baffled. Two Dauntlets sort through intercepted mails and parcels. An odd device sits to their left, flickering ominously... Also flickering is the purple glow of a spirit of sorts. It couldn't be Masson, could it...? "It's warm in here, at *cough* least." Edited September 23, 2014 by Endgame Quote
Emjajoas Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Mortimer uses one of the magnifying glasses on the spirit. "Everyone okay?" Quote
Endgame Posted September 23, 2014 Author Posted September 23, 2014 The magnifying glass casts its telltale light on the spectral orb. From the purple sphere emerges the silhouette of man -a cape flowed behind him, his build lean but muscular, tall but not hugely so. His hair seemed to parted neatly to one side. Was it...? The phantom speaks with a smooth, melancholic cadence. His voice is almost hypnotic, the man speaking in a very pleasant and collected tone; Only for him to suddenly begin stumbling over words, repeating them, or skipping them altogether, a stark contrast to his normally smooth voice. It was jarring, really, the way he spoke... "Well, hello, hello heroes. I'm... Not Masson, certainly, not Masson. No, my name is Royce... Royce Cour. His father, as it would happen..." Quote

Endgame Posted September 23, 2014 Author Posted September 23, 2014 (edited) "Here to aid us on our quest?" Mortimer asks quickly, nodding. "Yes, yes. And to... Talk to some of you, I suppose. This current situation is... Not good. Very bad, in fact, very bad." "The Regret's son and Masson's father. A damn family reunion is what this is turning out to be." Something tickles the back of Boomingham's memory. Walking around the Syndicate's hideout, a picture of a once happy family... "More of a confrontation of the past then a family reunion, I suppose... But yes, I suppose you have been meeting the family of your enemies, haven't you? The Regret. Can't say I heard about him until, well, today. Hard to believe... Hard to believe that he was building this." Karie examines the odd flickering device from a distance, not wanting to attract the strange hand like beings. The device has a coil of light stuffed inside of it... Could it perhaps be the Borealis Binder that incapacitated Marcus? "Very interesting device, that is... Yes. Intriguing." Endgame Posted September 23, 2014 Author Posted September 23, 2014 (edited) Jeaux looked at the device indicated by the spirit. "Any idea what that device does? Also, why are you here?" "Hmm. Excellent question, excellent question. I suppose there is one way to find out..." Royce grabs a parcel from the Dauntlet's sorting tale, and presses it onto the glowing device. Instinctively going for the next pakcage in alphabetical order, The Dauntlet makes contact with the machine. Coils of light burst out from it, coiling around the Dauntlet and practically strangling it. After quite a bit of struggling, the light disspates, and the machine snaps out of its control. It returns to work as if nothing has happened. "A device meant to bind things, by the look of it... Not what I expected, no... Though I... Must confess, i had no hypothesis on the matter. None. As for why I'm here, well..." "Care to explain yourself?" Mortimer asks, glancing around. "There is... Quite the labryinth up ahead. Perplexing, very... very perplexing. And I've taken to... Learning the method to its madness, in a way. And if we were to go through it, I could help you out. And... Someone to talk to, I suppose. I know something bad has happened to my son. And... Although I was only around for his childhood, I'm still his father. And I'd like to at least meet his friends and family." Edited October 12, 2014 by Endgame Quote

I'm lucky, very lucky, that I was even able to apparate, but this is incredibly exhausting. I will be able to accompany you for some time, but... Not much, not much at all. If The regret loosened his grip, then perhaps I could join you in battle, but... No. My father himself was a general in the army. Although he taught me swordplay, I am, in fact, a scientist. It would seem that my son took after me in more ways than one, despite my... minimal involvement.
