Gunman Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 (edited) Hey guyzz here is my Mills phase 1 moc, I hope you like it :) The tasteful grapes, from the small Island near Orcish Marches, has begun to be traded amongst Mitgardian farmers throughout the country. Now all Mitgardians have access to the main ingredient of "Green Glades Wine". Outside of Euosmos city, Barba Giorgis with his grandson is watching the pressing of the grapes. CC appreciated! Wat Tambor Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Nice build Gunman! It's great to see someone thinking outside the box and building a horsemill that produces wine instead of flour. Quote
Alfadas Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Looks great! Reminds me to start building AOM MOCs again. Stopped after the military stuff. This could be fun too, after I have seen this. Great work, can't wait to see next stages! Quote
-Horizon- Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Nice MOC gunman! Though not sure what to think of the brown carrot..... Quote

MKJoshA Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Nice! But you beat me to this one! I was planning on building it today and it was going to look similar. I'll just have to make sure I add some different flare Quote
kabel Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 I really like your building style and your photography. The only thing that puzzles me is that your Mitgardian characters always have greek names, probably immigrants from Kaliphlin I guess ... Quote

Thanks Kabel! It makes it easier/funny for me to throw random greek names for the chars and regions as long as its allowed ofc because I am a bit bored googling medieval names for them, I know few classic names ie King Arthur etc etc but not many. Infernum Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Awesome entry Guman! Love the idea, and it's executed perfectly! : Quote
mrcp6d Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Sweet! I really like the AoM for all the variety that we're injecting in the categories. This is no exception, the idea is a nice twist and the build is well done. I might have filled the lower basin with some tiles instead of horns for a more "liquid" look - but that's my only negative comment. Nice work! Quote
Simon_S Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Nice one! Who doesn't want to use a mill for squeezing grapes? Also, the dark brown carrottes are a nice touch . Funny details like this can make a build a lot better. I agree with mrcp6d, tiles would have been better. Like you've done it now it looks more than sausages to me, than wine . Quote

Kai NRG Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Great job Gunman! The touch with the horses heads being bent was well thought of! Quote
MassEditor Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Great village scene dude, and wonderful photography as always! Lovely mill and idea. Quote
MKJoshA Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 ...1x1 red tiles wouldnt be blokky??... I think you did well with what you had to work with because you're right. 1x1s would be blocky. I guess you could have poored actual grape juice on the build, but I'm sure that wouldn't be your first choice for an alternative to the horns Quote

They come in a surprising amount of colors. Edit: Spelling! Edited August 5, 2014 by mrcp6d Quote
mccoyed Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Awesome build. I love the outside the box idea for a mill also! I wanted to say, about the naming conventions, that it's pretty easy to google "Norse" or "Scandinavian" names and just use those. It's too simple and easy to get tired of, but perhaps you were trying to find mythological names or something. It's unnecessary. Plus, you can always massage the names you find in any database the way Tolkien did. Tyr becomes Tyrn, Bjorn becomes Bjern, etc. Quote
MKJoshA Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 I was thinking one or two of these guys: <snip> 2x4 tile. They come in a surprising amount of colors... So, putting them underneath the base of the mill? Obviously you couldn't just replace the horns with these tiles and have the tiles sticking up in the air. If they were under the base of the mill that would only add a red base colors but I suppose you could add some 1x1 round plates. Quote

I might have filled the lower basin with some tiles instead of horns for a more "liquid" look "Obviously" there should be quite a bit of solid matter in the actual mill. The resultant liquid created by smashing that solid matter should collect in lower basin. Using a tile or two in the lower basin may create a similar effect to these waterfalls by ISC: A smooth surface that might represent standing liquid. That's all I was getting at. Just another stylistic option, nothing more. Quote
soccerkid6 Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Excellent idea to do a winepress The wood textures on the press are superb and I like the landscape too Quote
Maxim I Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Excellent mill Gunman!! I am doing something about making wine in Stedor as well, but it won't be this cool :p Quote
