funkdis Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 (edited) Parents originally bought 4558 early 90's, by far the most memorable. I did end up getting the double decker carriage shortly after when a family member visited Germany around that time. A few months ago I had the chances to jump at another 2 more, one being built as the original the other as the Amtrak something or rather for $250usd and 84 rails, missing the figures being the least of my problems. https://www.dropbox....vxehwh/4558.jpg Now I'm the proud owner of 3Metro's + 1 double decker. What I would do, keep it in the box, source a box in better condition if its worth it. Second go online and find a 4558 and build that. Remember to have this train still fresh in a box after 30 years is spectacular and certainly a collectors dream. Edited November 21, 2015 by funkdis Quote
Carrera124 Posted November 21, 2015 Author Posted November 21, 2015 Well, I am looking for a better box since I got the MISB one, but there is nothing out there. Bricklink offers are somewhat funny - junky boxes for high prices... Quote
VintageLegoEra Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 (edited) I have finished building my 10001 and 10002. Honestly, the build is soo Fun and i really enjoyed it more than building the Modern Trains. The have Very detailed touches, realistic look and designs. What i have noticed is, If you compare this 10001 with 4558, the sticker material types on both are different. The one from 4558 is thick and sticky compared to one from 10001 which is thin and smooth. At the end , the overall look of the train with 10001 sticker is way better than the 4558 as in 4558 the sticker looks little popped out while in 10001 it is Flat and sharp in details. Thought to mention this as i didnt see any of this information above! Here are my photos of both sets: Enjoy! Edited December 3, 2015 by VintageLegoEra Quote
Younge Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 I miss the way Lego used to pack the sets Me too! For a few extra cents I am sure they could do it again! They come close on some of the bigger Technic sets (well, at least they did a few years ago - haven't bought any in a while) with the flip-over lids, but, they could do better. Quote
Farmer Harv Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 That parts sorting tray is something I've never seen before. Very cool. And the train itself is fantastic of course. Really makes me wish I was aware Lego made trains while I was busy with other things. Looking forward to updates as you build both sets. :-) Quote
