I followed your suggestion and I bought 8038's AT-ST. Hope I did well!

Why would you want to cover up the Technic innards? They look a lot more intriguing and a lot closer to the mechanical workings of the 'real' AT-ST than blocky plate and hinge assemblies do.

Personally I think the technic innards make the set look incomplete, as if the designers were too lazy to cover up the skeleton and released it anyway. Although with more examination of http://www.brickshel...38/p1040368.jpg I notice the higher level of accuracy with the 8038 edition. I should also mention that for me there is some nostalgia clouding the 7657 version since it is one of the first sets I purchased that got me into the world of lego Star Wars. But you know what they say, to each their own.

Unfortunately, before I knew all these things on walkers, I bought 7671 and 7250 sets, believing they were the walkers nearest to the Original Trilogy's ones.

Now I see my mystake and I bought today 8038.

So, now I sell 7671 and 7250.

Do you like 7671 and 7250? If so then don't sell them, keep them. The posts in this thread are opinions about the sets, your's may differ.

Personally I have and really like both 8038 and 7671. Each set has its pros and cons; but both are cool interpretations of the same iconic SW walker using different building techniques.

For AT-ST I agree with you. But for TIE fighter and X-wing and Y-wink I absolutely like much more the very first versions. They all will be part of my rebel hanger and imperial hanger.

Personally, the new tie fighter, x-wing, and y-wing are a lot better than the previous, they are all more "movie accurate", just look at the shape of the new x-wing... and the blue tie fighter doesn't make sense

For me 8038 is superior not so much due to any one detail; it just captures the "feel" of the AT-ST better. The 2007 version seems oversized and too blocky, even though I like the leg assembly a bit more. 8038's AT-ST has the head angling that, while probably exaggerated, really helps sell the feel of it to me.

Actually, the blue TIE Fighter makes a lot of sense if you go behind the scenes. TIE Fighters were always meant to have blue markings on them, however, the blue screen used on A New Hope caused it to appear black, much like when R2-D2's markings appeared black in the space scenes of the unaltered cut of the original trilogy. The model makers settled on coloring the markings grey instead. The Kenner toys still used the blue markings. Later, the technology improved and the blue markings can clearly be seen in the asteroid scene in The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi Endor battle.

The AT-ST has always been my favorite SW vehicle, but I was greatly disappointed by 7127 as a child for being too small and very inaccurate. When I heard they were making a new one in 2007, I was really excited, but as soon as I saw it, I knew I'd be passing on it. Simply put, it's too blocky and cheap looking. The back kinda captures the look of an AT-ST, but the front is atrocious with the oversized chin and blocky shape. A big disappointment. 8038 is the best rendition so far, but I really hope an improved system scale model comes in the future.
