It seems it may be difficult for most people to get into the contest due to the split nature of Technic and Model Team/studded these days so I changed my vote from no to yes even if imho a physical model will always have higher value than a LDD design.

i have a question: iam working on a studded version of my minifig Caterpillar D11 and the dimensions of it will be roundabout 30 studs long and 18 or 19 studs wide at the shield of the dozer. at the outside of the tracks the D11 is only 13 studs wide.

i know that the width should have 16 studs, with exception of mirrors or something similar. With a 18 or 19 studs wide shield my D11 is not Valid, even when the other vehicle is inside of the 16 studs width?

I am afraid that this would just open more space for the people to use various parts of the model to be larger than the rules state, just like with that airplane.

If it would be my call, I would allow this,

I will be changing my mind on the model A and be building a military creation, a Renault FT-17 or a Universal carrier with 2 pounder

Also is there a required scale for the models ?

Decals (stickers) will be allowed if you've made them yourself, but no cutting, sculpting or modifying parts.

So, does this mean that I can take a small random net picture of a tree or rainbow or whatever theme I need, modify the picture to fit on space I need, tweak it to my needs (color, add few tweaks) and print it?

I would like to use few of this, very small stickers.

Is it ok?

Old Technic sets required you to cut your rigid hose to length, so it certainly counts as an "official" assembly method.

I won't argue with my First Officer

For future contests we need to establish what counts as valid cutting. Rigid hoses, pneumatic tubes, ropes?!

By the way, why is the deadline on a Friday? Isn't that the worst possible day of the week to have a deadline for a hobby compo? I mean, most people have more time in the weekends for hobbies. The description in the starting post says "I have the whole Friday to build", but actually I have not, because I, like many people, have to work on Friday, and to take the photographs of the finished model I need daylight, so the last moment I could do that before the deadline is Friday before evening sets in.

I'd like to have the deadline on a weekend day for future competitions. I understand it not being Sunday so the host can finish things up the day after, but a Saturday would be the best option for both parties, I think.

Having more time in the weekend is exactly why I close the contest on Friday (actually Saturday morning)

Like you said, I take some time on Saturday to creating the voting topic etc.

I can close it on Monday and wait till the next Saturday to make the voting topic etc, but why wouldn't I give people the extra 5 days to some work.

In my opinion people appreciate it that voting starts right after closing the contest, instead of waiting another week.

Isn't it simply a matter of managing your own deadline?! Set it to the weekend before the actual deadline, instead of waiting for the last moment. It's not that I'm not giving you guys enough time to build.

But If the majority prefers a deadline on Monday and opening of the voting topic the following Saturday....fine be me. For me it's six of one and half a dozen of the other

So:

Do you want me to set the next deadline to a Monday, so you can use the entire last weekend? Possible side effect is that the voting won't start until the next Friday or Saturday.

Hence why I made my photos last Sunday

Managing deadlines

I agree. Saturday or Sunday.

Cool, thanks

I agree too, Sat or Sun. :D

Cool, thanks

Why are you only considering the extremes (Monday or Friday)? No one ever talked about Monday. As I said myself,

a Saturday would be the best option for both parties, I think

"Both parties" meaning

  • the contestants on one hand who could use the Saturday for the final touches and the photography,
  • the competition leader (you) on the other hand, who could use the Sunday to set up the voting topic.

I agree that Monday is a bad idea. I also agree that Sunday is not optimal. That's why I suggested Saturday.

Managing deadlines

You know how people "manage" deadlines, right? Most people "manage" to do most of the stuff right in time, but rarely sooner ;)
