Heroica RPG - Quest #109: Dreamscape

[Captain Settle]

Francis uses animal talk to address the cat:

"Um, hi mister cat. What are you doing here, and what is this place?"

[Emjajoas]

The cat sniffs at the air around Francis, his nose scrunching.

Much to the Party's surprise, they could all understand the cat's reply.

"Is that catnip I smeowll?"

[Captain Settle]

Francis looks nervously around at the rest of the party. This cat was weird.

"Yeah, we have catnip. I'll give you some if you answer my questions."

[Brickdoctor]

Combining Animal Talk and Diplomacy, I respond,

"Indeed it is."

I hand my piece of Catnip to the cat.

"We're trying to find out what's going on here; perhaps you could help us? Do you know to whom these items belong?"

[Emjajoas]

The cat munches happily on the catnip Docken handed it, purring.

"Weird, nya? Heck of a thing for outsiders to say, meow. To answer your first two questions, this is a dream. Shouldn't you already kneow that? And I am Knickers, this is my shop. Care to take a look Mearound?"

Francis stares at the cat for a while before answering.

"Fine, I'll take a look 'mearound'."

He didn't know why, but Francis didn't like this cat.

[Brickdoctor]

"Weird, nya? Heck of a thing for outsiders to say, meow. To answer your first two questions, this is a dream. Shouldn't you already kneow that? And I am Knickers, this is my shop. Care to take a look Mearound?"

"Yes, I'd be interested in your wares."

While I take a look at the items for sale, I continue to speak to Knickers:

"We were told that this was a dream, but you'll have to forgive me if I'm cautious and skeptical whenever I'm told that I've been dropped into the dream of someone who doesn't appear to want me here. What do you know about the castle, Master Knickers?"

[Kintobor]

Annienal hesitantly moves closer to the cat to pet it. She thought the feline was rather cute, but was a little worried it would try and attack her like the rest of these dream warriors.

"Um, is there any spot in particular you want to be pet?"

[Captain Settle]

Francis stares at the elf knight in disbelief.

"Are you seriously asking the shopkeeper where he wants to be pet?"

[Kintobor]

Annienal looks timidly at the ranger, Francis she believed his name was.

"Um... y-yes... why?"

[Brickdoctor]

OoC: By the way, I'm not ignoring your queries, Kinto; I was just trying to think of a good response, and then the quest started moving forwards and it didn't make much sense for me to reply.

[Captain Settle]

"Um... y-yes... why?"

"I dunno', It just seems strange as in this dream world, the cat is in a position of higher authority than us, and asking where to pet him seems odd to say the least."

[Emjajoas]

Knickers' Wares:

Grand Potion (Restores 25 health to the target.) Costs 12 gold.

Mead (Causes the encouraged-effect, doubling the target's attack power for the duration of one battle.) Costs 20 gold.

Smelling Salts (Causes the hastened-effect, allowing the target to act twice in one round for the duration of one battle.) Costs 30 gold. (Two Available)

Phoenix Essence (Revives a fallen ally with full health during a battle.) Costs 60 gold. (Two Available)

The staple of the cat's collection, however, is the:

Lustrous Cloak (1/6 chance of dodging damage rolls and free hits. Suitable for rogue-based classes, artifact, backwear). 75 gold.

"Yes, I'd be interested in your wares."

While I take a look at the items for sale, I continue to speak to Knickers:

"The castle folk aren't very smart, for the mreowst part. They tried to steal from me. I had to chase them off. A couple people in there aren't like the others, though. They've got faces. Come from outside, like you, but unlike you, they breowlong. The faceless folk all have personyalities of their own. They're peowple, just parts of the Dreamer's imagination. A little bit like meow."

"Since you gave me catnip, Nyarden, I'd be willing to broker you a deal on anything that catches your mreoeye."

"I am quite fond of behind the ears, by the mreway, miss. Thank you for measking."

Francis stares at the elf knight in disbelief.

[Emjajoas]

"I see. Interesting, that there are people who belong besides the Dreamer. Do you know who they are? Are there no other inhabitants of this land, other than yourself, the faceless soldiers, and the outsiders who belong?"

"That's very generous of you, and it's much appreciated. How about, say, 40 Gold for 5 Grand Potions?"

"Mreaya's her name. I don't know meouch about her, but she has her place and belongs. This land is small, and I've been to meither side; you're the meonly ones I've seen with faces. Animals always seem to be comeoplete, though I'm the only one who can speak."

"40 gold for 5 Grand Potions sounds like a deal, meow. The catnip was rather nyaice."

"Um, Mr. Knickers, would you be willing to sell one of your Phoenix Essences for 45 gold?" She says, scratching him behind the ear affectionately.

[Brickdoctor]

I hand Knickers 40 Gold, accepting the 5 Grand Potions.

"Thank you very much. I think I'll also buy that Lustrous Cloak; could you do 60 Gold?"

[Emjajoas]

"Um, Mr. Knickers, would you be willing to sell one of your Phoenix Essences for 45 gold?" She says, scratching him behind the ear affectionately.

[Brickdoctor]

"I do not, unfortunately."

[Kintobor]

"If you shared your catnip, I'd be willing to give it to your for meorty," the cat replies between purrs.

"Well, okay then, I guess that sounds fair." Annienal puts the catnip in her hand to allow Knickers' to feed off it.

[Captain Settle]

"Um, Knickers, if I gave you some catnip, could you reduce the price of the lustrous cloak?"

[Emjajoas]

"I take it you are meoving towards the Castle, meow? You should beow careful. It's a dyangerous road, and the residents are rather greowchy."

"Um, Knickers, if I gave you some catnip, could you reduce the price of the lustrous cloak?"

"Myes, I would."

Francis holds out a handful of catnip, trying to tempt Knickers.

"How does 55 gold for the cloak sound?"

[Captain Settle]

"Okay, fine, here's 60 gold and I'll take the cloak."

Francis reluctantly hands over 60 gold and some catnip to the cat.
