Vader Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 Ok well over the last few months i have been chatting to a guy who is able to print onto minifigs, just like lego does. After i showed him some of my custom designs he agreed to print one for me, i decided that i wanted my vader printed. Now i always loved the vader that TLC made but after seeing the printed legs stormtroopers and the printed armed boba fett i wondered what a vader would look ike had TLC made one. So together we sharpened up the design and came up with this: Now im not the greatest picture taker so these are going to look slightly rougher than they are, as you can see above the vader now has a more film like torso, belt and legs. Here you can see vaders arms, we wanted to keep these simple and i believe thats what weve done. Ok so thats the Vader done now onto the Sith Starfighter. I built this some time ago and as you can see i dont yet have the right droid for the fighter, i have tried to keep this moc as close to the TLC version as possible. A simple front view not much different to point out here. Here you can see the custom stickers that ive made for the ship, i hate stickers but i wanted to give the ship a more Empire feel. I never liked the old engines so decided to upgrade them alittle, i think they speak for themselves. Now heres the cockpit, i always felt that the cockpits in the starfighters were pretty poor so ive added a few bits like the new handle bars and a far better looking seat. Again a simple side view with an open cockpit and vader nearby. Vader in his cockpit, as you can see he fits in nicely. Same again just a little closer. And finally with the cockpit closed. As usual thoughts and comments welcome. Quote
Starwars4J Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 That's all really impressive! I love that *vader* fig, but you know that :-P It's a work of art! Next a custom saber maybe? Anyway that fighter is also beautiful, those stickers are so well done...where'd you get those "fin" pieces that make up the wing? Are they painted? Great job overall, and I love the redone interior, that seat is much nicer and it's so simple. Great work, I can't see what you'll do for a droid ;-) Quote
Kikuichimonji Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 I absolutely love the Vader fig. It's almost impossible to tell if it's a custom or not. The fighter has been done before, and I'm not too fond of Vader's version anyway, mainly because it lacks color. Still, you've tweaked it nicely (and I like those Imperial wing decals). Keep up the good work! Quote
The Emperor Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 I *wub* that vader minifig. *vader* i give him a 1000/10! um... a sithfighter looks like this: http://www.starwars.com/databank/starship/...hter/index.html *vader* The Emperor *vader* Quote

The guy who prints onto lego really does a great job, just wish he would share with me how its done |-/ Still hes agreed to do more customs for me which is great. Quote

Great work, I can't see what you'll do for a droid ;-) Well i do have a custom sabre for him but ill need alot more light to get a good pic of it. The fin pieces are indeed painted, if you look closely you can see the yellow still visable where they connect to the bar. Ill be changing that once i find the correct paint, one that wont chip. As for the droid ill just use the black r2 unit, once i get one that is :-D Oh and mutley you have no chance, this is my most prized fig :-D :-P ;-) Quote
Starwars4J Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Ah, well if you want something that doesn't chip just about any paint will since it's held on by friction. What you can do is either put a VERY fine layer of nail varnish over it (I'm sure your Padm Quote
Vader Posted June 12, 2007 Author Posted June 12, 2007 Ahhh yes the old nail varnish, my padme has plenty of that stuff hanging around though the last time i used it she wasnt happy. Seems i used her most expensive one, how the hell am i supposed to tell the difference between a Quote

Vader Posted June 12, 2007 Author Posted June 12, 2007 Well no they dont work that well.... However she never ever says anything about what i spend on lego as she knows ill just point out how much she spends on clothes, make up etc. >:-) Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted June 12, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted June 12, 2007 I'm impressed with the looks of that Vader fig! Especially the chain under under the neck looks good. Much better than the official version. I would also be very interested to find out more about the printing process... Quote
Vader Posted June 12, 2007 Author Posted June 12, 2007 Ive been trying to find out just how to print onto the fig but so far no one seems to know, even the guys at Redbeans site dont seem to know. Its a real puzzle so far......... :-/ If i could find out how i would mass produce alot of figs, hell i would even sell them at cost for all members here. Quote
xwingyoda Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 G mate, what can I tell you: you did unleash upon us the ULTIMATE Sith MOC IMO 8- Quote
Dark Brick Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 This is a very excellent Darth Vader. I love the details to the arms. The SI is great too, although I do agree with *yoda* that the buzz droid head has to go. I am curious if this person works for LEGO it self, so he/she knows how it works, but cannot say anything without the fear of losing the job. Conspiracy Theory On! :-P DB Quote
Vader Posted June 12, 2007 Author Posted June 12, 2007 Nope he dosent work for lego, hes not even living in any of the big lego producing countrys also he dosent hide his name or address something that most lego workers would do if they worked for tlc. I believe hes a guy working for a specialist printing company and i suspect hes doing these on the side so to speak. As for the view on the droid head i totally agree and the buzz droid shall soon be replaced by a r2 d5 head, i was going to wait to get the head before posting but i just couldnt :-D Quote
Scouty Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Well, as far as I'm aware, ink is applied to a giant...foam...thingy...and is then pressed onto the fig, I figure that there is a small plate the kind of outlines where that paint goes. It was in one of those "lego factory" features where you could see the inside of the factories. Your MOC is absolutely stunning. It could pass off as a real Lego figure. Your sith fighter is a great piece of art. Awsome job! Quote
Wout Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Great fig, Great moc *y* Tlc may make it for me, (although I still want a purple fighter with Mace etc.) Quote

trooperdavinfelth Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Can't say enough about it other than that IT OWNS! I love the Vader fig, but the starfigher is, well, AMAZING! Good work, and may the force be with you! Btw, you should make more Sith stuff. Like Revan or Malak. Or Nihilus or Traya. Or Sion or Bandon. Oh any one. ;-) Quote
Vader Posted June 14, 2007 Author Posted June 14, 2007 Most of the figs you mention can be found in my BS account, but their decal figs and not printed like the vader one. Quote
