Izzy Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Oh wow!!! They are spectacular. I love them all. I only have a slight problem with Zoe... Her torso could be much more creative. Her and Mal almost seem to have matching outfits alot of the time. and her face could be much prettier. She has huge eyes and a wide mouth. A darker version of Inara would be more appropriate. Quote
Apache Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 Nice Work Tyger. I was sketching Doc Holiday and the Earp torsos today. I used the same vest, tie, and side holster, but I have another bird handle revolver sticking out on the left. Ditto Brick Miner on that bartender, sweet. When I get back from vacation I'll use photoshop on the torso template and upload them here. Yours are very nice indeed. I ordered water decal paper, putty, and mold making stuff along with different resins from MicroMark so I'm ready to start customizing . I want to make an Earp style hat and Doc Holiday hat that sits across the side as well as other western accessories. I would love to be able to get them done in ABS, but let's be realistic. I'll keep you all posted. Apache Quote
Brick Miner Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 wow, you sound serious about this... and i like the way you're talking. "water slide", "ABS" those are some seriously "professional" terms you are tossing around there. so, do you have experience with graphic making (for the decals) and sculpting (for the new elements) ??? - BM Quote

Thats how I feel about making new elements. If there were a variety elements for WW and Pirates than I would have this urge to make them. I do want to experiment with my own armor and variety of swords for Castle but love the stuff that Red Bean has done, so won't focus on that many elements for that theme. And if LEGO introduced WW elements tomorrow, than I probably wouldn't have the urge. As for experience, I've never really had formal training in sculpting or graphic design. I really wanted to make lego quality accessories so I researched the whole ABS thing and it looks like with my budget, RESIN is what I will have to work with. I've never made molds before, so this is a new thing. From what I've read, its going to be a rough start, wasting lots of resin, but hopefully it will be rewarding once I get the hang of the casting part. I'm just one of those people who see's things and go, "I could do that" and that motivates me. The medium I work with the most is pencils but I have found that it's really easy to turn a drawing of a person into sculpture out of clay. This putty thing is going to be a new adventure and I'm craving the challenge. I read that you are a comic artist, NICE. How can I see some of your work? I always thought I was going to draw comics when I grew up, but I had alot of trouble with proportion for the longest time which hurt my self confindence. P.S. Alex Ross is one of my fav's. Other inspirations are Frank Frazetta and N.C. Wyeth. Ok, the cars loaded, see you later. Apache Quote

I always thought it was a shame that LEGO only ever managed to produce the "Ten Gallon" style hats, Top hats and the calvary caps... I'm not a big fan of the whole calvary side of the theme. I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Thanks again for the compliments! *sweet* Edited July 1, 2007 by Tyger Quote
zouave Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 I'd kill for a Doc Holiday flat brimmed hat Have you seen the new Indiana Jones hat. I'd like a couple of those. Quote
Brick Miner Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 when i saw those indy pieces... i thought, wow what a great opportunity for the WW... then i realized they were all the "new" brown :-( - BM Quote

Brick Miner Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 it doesn't match the old... so i wont be using any of it. - BM Quote
Tyger Posted July 3, 2007 Author Posted July 3, 2007 Have you seen the new Indiana Jones hat. I'd like a couple of those. Yah I saw the new Indy hat... and I think it'll be great... but sadly there weren't a lot of Fadoras in the Old West. I do hope the release a couple versions of the hat in black (like for the Evil SS Torture guy from Temple of Doom) cause that would open up some cool possibilities for mobster lego. Not that Lego would ever make gansters, but it would make some great pieces so AFOLs could. Use the Fadora they've done for Indy along with the weapons and some other stuff from the Batman stuff and voila you've got 1930s mobster lego. Quote
Apache Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 Hey Tygs, Brick Miner and everyone else who is interested... here are two torso designs I was playing around with today. Doc Holiday based of Val Kilmer's DOC in Tombstone Wyatt Earp Miner, Bonnet and Vulture seem like possiblilites. The buffalo (lego style) might be hard for a resin mold. Gotta run, will be back soon. Brick Miner Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 (edited) hey i see your back apache !!! hope you had a good vacation... wait, were you on vaction ??? maybe im thinking of tyger :-D in any case, your torsos look like a great start !!! i really like the gun placement and color combos on the first torso. it does however seem like your line weights are a little inconsistant,... shaky if you will. they would probably print fine, but im just picky about this type of stuff. so don't mind me :-D so, what application are you using ??? -------------------------------------------------- as a side thought, maybe we could turn this thread into a western toros decals thread ??? i wonder if there would be enough contributions ??? anyone interested ??? - BM EDIT: i forgot to comment on your avatar... i love it !!! is that a custom background ??? you know, my first avatar was a calvary fig... but my favorite aspect to the romantasized western genre is gambling... i changed my avatar accordingly. I'm back from the beach in California and all moved into my new place, ready to create some cool art. Hopefully some really cool LEGO art. I didn't scan in my torso sketches, I just drew on a photoshop document. Your right on about the shakeness and line wieght. I have an old wacom tablet and photoshop 7.0 The photoshop I have doesn't have the option to fill in areas or else I can't find it. I used to have Photoshop elements and could scan in a sketch or line drawing and fill in the areas with that paint bucket tool. I guess I could try to use Paint to fill in the scanned in sketch or drawing. The necktie needs to be resized in the first one as well, as it's way to big. I'll keep playing with these, I want to do some of the Cowboy characters from that film as well like Curly Bill, Ike Clanton, Johnny Ringo. Other Torso's that are on my list to make are.... -Mexican Bandit -Confederate (might not need one, as I have seen some of these allready customized) -Authentic Native Americans (No offense LEGO) -Gamblers -Farmers -Bankers -Shop Keep So many options.. Might as well post any new western torso's here once there made, no sense starting a new thread. Ahh, yes. I liked your background for your Mocs and avatar so was just fooling around in Photoshop and came up with that today. The Cavalry trooper is my favorite minifig. I love the whole WW theme, but I definatley love the troopers. Back to the drawing board. Apache Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 Very nice! They look startlingly like the liscenced Lego torsos! Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 (edited) I couldn't find anywhere over here like the Pirate forum for posting these so I hope this forum is appropriate.I have been messing around with designing custom torsos for minifigures and I thought I'd post some of my Wild West designs for some feedback. So hopefully you like em X-D Saloon Keeper: Doc Holiday: Gunslingers: Cheers These torsos are great, Tyger! 8- Edited March 7, 2008 by Klaus-Dieter Quote
Hinckley Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 Now there's a place for 'em! X-D I'll move this over to the customization workshop. Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 (edited) Thank you, Hinckley! Since nobody answered yet my questions I tried to print these great torsos on white labels and then pasted them on some minifigs. It worked very well! Mainly the saloon keeper looks very nice! *y* Edited March 11, 2008 by Klaus-Dieter Quote
canadianD Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Hey those are cool i've gotta question for any americans who still remeber the good old days of 1994. On Fox they Had a TV show called "the adventurers of brisko countie JR" the main villian in that show was albert bleye (i think thats how you say it) he dressed very proper. My point to that long nastalgia monolog was that the 2nd "gunslinger" looks like what he might have worn. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105932/ heres a link to the IMDB page of brisko. PS sorry guys i still haven't got the picture system on here. if any one wants to see a picture of bleye or more about brisko county JR email me/send me a message. (my email is on my MOCpages page just follow the link) Quote
