Steering has been added... It is not a very sharp turn it can make, but it works... I really love these new steering elements

Swiveling headlights are in as well (that's why there is this orange lever at the left seat)

As you can see I still have to do a lot of the interior work

Can you show us how you solved the steering mechanism? It's a very hard thing to do in that small space.

Btw, I love your model! It was one of my icons as a kid.

I will tinker a bit with it today. I'll post a picture tonight. However it is quite simple, the new steering components15460.jpg fit inside the the wheel, which makes the steering point only half a stud away from the center of the wheel (when looking from above). That is close enough to not have too much unwanted travel to the sides.

I tried the 4-link steering setup as well, that had an even better (virtual) steering point, but it doesn't steer that far.

I also first built it in bricks with the old steering elements 6571.gif, but they have quite a limited turning angle. I will build the new version in bricks today and I suspect it will give a bigger turning angle...

Last day of the holiday...

Next updates will be more infrequent  .

As promised a look under the bonnet:

Now I can start on the interior in earnest. Any suggestions for the colour scheme?

Sand colored seats? Or go crazy and use something like orange, violet, lime or a combo of these... And dont forget to hang the cubes off the rear view mirror.

Good idea for steering, I'll have to borrow it sometime :-) And you did not just use the seats for the lights!? Those seats work miracles, one of our LUG members used them to build a small plough on a CITY tractor! For now I'd say you won my vote, althogh that fiesta is coming along nicely...

Nice Esprit. Also, interesting choice of car. Love the typical pop-up headlights - I like how you used seats for those. The wheels fit the car quite well. Also I see there's some nice Technic inside already. Nice! :)

As for interior - I'd choose a color that stands out. Red, as Seasider suggests, would be great.

Another update...

Red leather interior is finished. The dashboard above the steering column is too angled I think, but there is very little room to work with

Again lost the window sill (still?), but I like the sloped red line too much and that interfered with my solution so far

I also removed the orange lever at the passenger side, that was just too big. Now I do have to figure out a new place for it...

Comments are welcome as usual :classic:

Next part will be the engine...

I cant imagine what creation could change my mind to not give all my votes to you :)

I would try combination tan/red on interior, i dont know if its authentic, but it should look good.

A little suggestion of me: I would put the rear tyres the same way as the front tyres. While the way you used them might be more like the real one, I would go for the uniform look.

Really nice so far!

Time for another update

The engine is more or less finished (still some greeble to add, but I an do that better in real bricks), missing bricks are on order, now let's hope it doen't fall apart in real life

Looking great! I especially love the headlights. The red interior and white body go great together. I've learned my lesson the hard way when building my Bronco based on an LDD build. I had to do a lot of structural fixes since the body was about to break into two! Can't wait to see the real life build!

I guess you should ad some plates and tiles for the bottom, or is there a special reason for bottomless build? Otherwise it is super cool, almost freezing ;-)

Thx.

LDD is really struggling with this model, that's why i stopped building digital. I had to save every few minutes in a different name out of fear that the model won't load again (as happened too often now).

I guess all the SNOT, half-tile offsets and weird angles are killing the brick-collision algorithms.

But so far the real life build is doing OK, it is much sturdier than I feared :classic:
