Asbjorn, Jarl of Arnarhvall, has no child of his own and has always treated Alva as a favored niece. Very little happens in his lands without his knowing it, and it was not long before he noticed Alva's interest in the martial. Early in the morning, when most are still asleep or just preparing for their day, Asbjorn helps Alva learn the axe and practice enough to have enough strength to hurl an axe as far as a Mitgardian warrior worth her icewater needs to. Though eventually she'll have to learn to throw even with ice and snow to trip her up, for now he has her brush the snow away every time they practice.

The hard work is paying off. Alva strikes true more often than not. The unretrieved axes are a reminder of yesterday's regular training, when the young lads practice together. Later in the day, when they come to train, they'll have to march forward before all their peers and claim the axes and their shame. Alva has not had to claim an axe from the snowy dirt for days now. Asbjorn watches her carefully, knowing that she is almost ready to test herself against the others.

Phase One here.

AND OOPS. I left the title of this as Archery Phase 1 by accident (stupid auto-fill!). Can it be changed to Phase 2 by a mod please and thank you?!

Nice! I like those unretrieved axes! I like the way you're interpreting some of the AoM categories- certainly a refreshing change!

I'm trying to stand out because I don't want to overly retread the work of others, especially as I'm learning techniques and so on. I think I'm going to have to be a bit less interpretive when doing stuff like the Tower or Wall because I haven't really attempted a GoH-level traditional castle structure. I hope to be able to put my own spin on it, as all the builders here do.

I like the axe rack and landscape. Good work on this! :classic:

Thanks!

Clever build. I like the snow on the ground and your axe holder looks also nice .

Thanks!

Nice build, everyone loves axe throwers!

Especially Mitgardians.

Thanks! I like those newish Lego axes because they, when you use short hafts with them, look like big clunky training axes. It is fun to mess with proportion and customizing how you use bars and axe blades.

I just find it odd that they are targeting the guild's colors. Shouldn't those be another guild's colors, or are they preparing for an insurrection?

Haha. I wondered if anyone would mention this. It wasn't intended as a slight against Mitgardia, though Arnarvhall is a bit off the beaten path. These people see themselves as the custodians of an older way of life than how the more Cedrican influenced (let alone the other Guilds) have changed over time. That said, they aren't trying to spit on the flag or anything. It was just a way to get the Guild colors into the build without forcing a flag. I also think yellow stands out nicely as a target color.

Nice work, I like the ax rack and the innovative perspective on the category

Thanks Scaevola. I try to be innovative!

Nice little build here! The axes in the target is clever and the minifig posing is spot on!

Thanks Kayne!

looks great, exactly the way I imagined an ax range would looks. one things though, it looks slightly unnatural how all the axes that missed landed at the same angle in the snow. I've thrown hatchets before and if they've missed they tend to bounce off the ground as often as they get stuck in it. also the axe holder is a clever idea.

I also like the angle of the picture, making that one axe look as it is in midflight as it`s connection to the base plate is obscured.

Great idea and great build!

Thanks. It was actually difficult to conceptualize how it should look. I finally settled on a shorter-distance archery range. One of the reasons my Phase 1 shows Alva retrieving a thrown axe is cuz at that point I wasn't sure what kind of distance to do. As for the axes in the snow... well, the angling is a result of getting the axes to stick into the grill pieces and not flop over. Ends up looking a bit unrealistic, but I also avoided just having axes laying around on their sides.

Nice landscaping and a great little scene!

Thanks!

Hahaha, this is very nice!!! Not a very everyday archery, so I really like it :)

Haha yeah. It'd be nice if there was a term for axe-throwing similar to how there's one for bow-shooting. That said, I like turning it into a kenning because that works nicely with the Old Norse influence on Mitgardia.

Great idea and great build!

Yeah, I see what you mean there. I was originally going to do an axe in flight but it looked awkward so I dropped it. Might try it again sometime.

Neat continuation of phase 1, Axes are not what you would think of with an archery at first, but it works great!

It's a pretty liberal interpretation. I also thought of doing slingers but felt that axe-throwing would hew closer to what I envision for Mitgardia in general and Arnarvhall specifically. AoM is a great project because it gives a solid baseline for experimentation while also encouraging fledgling builders like me to try our hands at more conventional style builds as well.

Nice Mitgardian landscape with the dark tan base and snow  The axe rack is sweet and I like the target designs.

Keep these great builds coming!

Thanks SK. You're not worried that the target colors imply treacherous intentions? Haha.

Very nice! I enjoy the story, and am looking forward to what happens next!

I really like the minifig posing, shape of the base, and the way you've used surrounding elements to frame the action of the build.

Awesome little build mccoyed! I really like the targets and those grills were a clever idea on them so you could put the axes in, nice job.

Hopefully you've seen Phase 3 by now. I can't remember if you commented! Alva's story will continue soon beyond Archery Phase 3 as well!

Thanks Be!

Nice progression, my favorite part in this build is the axe rack :classic:

Looking forward to phase 3!

Thanks Gideon.

The scene is great I like the axe rack and the targets.

They're my favorite parts too!
