This must be the most unexpected entry of this contest. To be honest, I'm a regular visitor of this subforum, but I almost never post.

I was interested in entering the contest, but I don't have the parts to build it IRL, and since the virtual entries don't seem to be authorized (unfortunately), I won't be able to participate. But this is no big deal, I'm not a car builder, I'm better at Action Figures and Microspace, but I still wanted to try, just for fun. Actually, it's my first big scaled car, so wish me luck !

I chose this car first of all because it's a famous French car, and also because it's my father's favorite car, so it's not a totally unknown subject to me.

Here's my progress so far, I'm quite satisfied given it's the first time I build a car :

The front might look out of proportions, but it's because of the angle, and the lack of mudguards. The front wheels are steerable and will be controlled via a HOG. The chassis is almost done, I still have to modify it a bit, do the bodywork and the interior. The doors will be openable, what you see now are just a template for the scale. The boot will be openable too. I think it's enough for a Model Team MOC. :sweet:

Since this is my first MOC of this kind, every comment, criticism (just don't be too harsh) or advice is very welcome. (:

It's looking good. How about using piece 61409 in grey for the front radiator?

It looks slanted in the real car, so this is more realistic

Thanks for your comments guys.

Like this ?

I'm not too sure about it, I prefer my first solution. :look:

BTW, here's some progress :

2cv21010.jpg

Taking shape ! :sweet:

I would replace those slopes round the front edge with a something curved and sloped.

Hum... like this or this ?

I prefer the grille to be the original one, - it's looking great so far, definately taking shape. I do think the front lights are a tad big though

Looking forward to see more progress!

looking good - remember the 2CV 'stance', is higher at the rear than the front (I used to have 4 2cvs at one time, at the same time too)

Looks beautiful!

I'm wondering what the technic connector in front of the front axle does

Thanks for the positive feedback guys, that's really encouraging. :D

Yes the first one should look good.

Hum, it seems a tad too big to me, this part is two bricks tall.

I do think the front lights are a tad big though

I replaced them, but I couldn't keep the transparent parts :

You can see here that I filled the hood. Though, I'm not too sure about the center part, it looks weird, but a totally flat (i.e. with only tiles at the same level) hood would look too... flat.

I've raised the wheel "covers" (do they have a special name ?) by one plates. Is it better now ?

The front wheels are steerable, the Technic connector is here to link the wheel to the chassis :

I think what was ment here is that the whole chassis should be leaning to front, rear axle suspension makes the car ground clearance higher at the back. Good progress anyway. Perhaps the light are really positioned a bit high, have you tried turning the modified 1x1 plates downwards?

Best wishes, miha

One problem with your steering solution is going to be very low steering radius as the steering rack will slide sideways and hit the connectors.

Oops. Thanks for pointing that out, I'll modify it, I think I have a simple solution that could work.

Oh, I see. Then I guess I'll simply have to lower the rear wheels by one plate instead. ^^

It would be too low then. And I think the dish parts would collide with the hood. I agree that they might look too high, but to be honest, I like them that way. I try to make a good Lego rendition of a real car, not a reproduction. If the MOC looks better with some "adjustments", then I'm fine with it. There are always compromises that have to be made. :classic:

Best wishes, miha

Thanks man ! :sweet:

Just use a single perpendicular connector instead of the double one in the rear side of the axle

That's what I had planned, actually. But to be honest, I used the solution Mark275 mentioned. It's much simpler, and takes less space. I don't know why I didn't think of it earlier. So now it looks like this :

poop11.jpg

EDIT : And here is a render of the MOC when the wheels are fully steered :

poop12.jpg

Also, I think I'll add suspensions to the rear axle.

I build my MOCs with LDD, and I render them with POV-Ray. I enable the outlines setting in LDD2POV-Ray, the converter (you can learn more about it in the digital subforum) because they help to render faster, and I like the look they give to the render.

Sweet, the iconic french car that brought freedom to the masses, it was so much fun rocking them side to side, will this moc feature realistic 2CV suspension? :sweet:

Guess what ? I'm not giving up. I don't know how it's possible, but my proportions were wrong. The MOC is now three studs longer, and two studs wider (currently about 34*15, so I fit the limits yay). I've built the chassis with actual bricks, the suspension system is really nice to play with, and I'm sure I have a strong chassis. But I won't be able to build thr bodywork without making it look like a rainbow. Still, some progress :

The hood is the same as before, but since the car is now bigger, I need to make it 2 or 3 plates taller, so I'll rework it. I want openable doors, but I can't find a proper solution, so they're not currently connected to the chassis (the magic of LDD). I need to rework the tail lights, they don't have the good shape. I don't like that.

Wish me luck guys, I'm gonna need some if I want to finish this MOC.
