natelite Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 if you want to keep a prized set on display forever, get one of those acrylic display cases. it's kinda expensive in the US but cheaper elsewhere. i think it's because the US lack hobby enthusiasts. :-P eg hard to find any tamiya plastic model sets. it's mostly die cast vehicles on displays. SalvoBrick Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 I use ice-cream boxes to sort bricks: these boxes are totally free :-) (except for the ice-cream, of course... :-) ) The bricks are generally sorted by type, color and size: I have currently 14 boxes where I keep all the unused bricks. Quote
Poomerio Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Well I bought a large, 27 litre tub from Tesco. All of my LEGO gets sorted by type, and by colour. They're then put into ziploc bags and stored in the 27 litre tub =] When I have time, I'm going to label each bag and maybe even redo my sorting system. - Poomie Quote
Brainbox Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 I might see if I can find some cheap tuppaware containers (I'm not paying a fortune for them) and move some of the pieces in small tubs, boxes or bags into them (in bags) to free up some space and boxes, which would let me sort other pieces. But until then, I'm quite happy with my sorting. I think I should probably start to label the boxes and stuff, or perhaps make a list of the types of pieces that've been sorted, and aren't stored in the 'other piece' tubs by colour. I sometimes find myself forgetting that pieces have been sorted or where they've been sorted. I'll be searching for a piece and suddenly think "hang on, it's in box x." Ice-cream and margarine boxes are a good idea, but my dad tends to either take them to use in the garden before I can get my hands on them, or throw them away. Quote
andy_0306uk Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 S@H are now selling storage trays but at Quote
Brainbox Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 I agree, they do look pretty nice, but they're a bit on the steep side price-wise. Quote

runswscissors Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Sorry....I'm always late to the party. I've got two of the Akro-Mils (sp?) drawers and I LOVE THEM! I just recently bought the second set of drawers and I found them at my local Target for about $16! Amazon and other sites had them at about $30!! I was all set to order one off of amazon.com but I remembered I had purchased the drawers at an actual store. I'll probably go back soon for a third set. I can't recommend them enough! I started out using zip lock bags - storing them in very cheap bins. But I find the drawers much easier. I still keep the bigger items in the bins, but I've upgraded to much nicer brand name bins (rubbermade, maybe?). Spend the extra $1 per bin and get the good kind. The lids don't seem to stay on the cheaper bins!! I also use fishing tackle boxes for my extremely small parts. You can customize the tackle boxes for lenght (mine goes up to about 16 inches in lenght, but only 1.5 inches wide). All my 1x1s and minifig accessories are in the tackle box. Quote
Medievalego Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 i have relatively few "spare" parts and they're all kept in a couple of large draws all mixed together. Afterall, there is no better sound than stirring through a big box of Lego to get the bit you want! ;-) Sure, it's a little annoying if you can't find what you want quickly, but isn't that half the fun ? X-D NOPE, it's infuriating. >:-) Quote
Hinckley Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Sorry....I'm always late to the party. And you're always running in late with scissors. Medievalego Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 What what what??!! "Putz around with your LEGO?" My LEGO is behind a locked door. It's not for putzing around with! If someone tried to "use" my LEGO, I'd punch them in their stupid face. hinckley, I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to make that quote part of my signature. That was really funny. Hilarious goodness. And I agree. No one touches my stuff. Though for years my siblings brought uninvited guests into my room to show them my collection. No one is even allowed to see it!!! Except tons of anonymous individuals over the internet. I show them willingly. X-D Quote

Turaga of Force Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 (edited) Maybe one of the storage devices made by LEGO? http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Product.aspx?...709&cn=56&d=403 http://shop.lego.com/Product/?p=851917 Edited December 18, 2007 by Gahu: Turaga of Force Quote
iamded Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Hehe, I'm not that much of a purist. :-P The second one looks pretty nice though. ~Peace Quote
Odie Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Here in the US, Big Lots has a multitude of stacking drawer units in a bunch of sizes. Best of all, they do not cost a fortune. As for sorting, I do the opposite of most. I sort the parts by part ID as opposed to color. To me, it is much easier to go to the 2x2 brick bin and find the color I need as opposed to searching through a bin of all blue parts looking for a 2x2 brick. Quote
