MstrOfPppts Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 My first time leading an assignment coordinating multiple groups. And what an absurd one?! We have to locate a bounty hunter on a rumored route, because Darth forgot to thank him ... as if he ever does. And for being even harder I have to coordinate the search mission from the Avenger with troops scattered over five planets. Anyway, the guys from Felucia were first to make contact. Trooper: This is squad from Felucia reporting ... MstrOfPppts: Trooper report your status. Trooper: We've landed about an hour of walk from each of the three settlements and we are half way to our target. MstrOfPppts: What about the other two groups? Trooper: We haven't heard from them, this planet truly is psychedelic, I wouldn't be surprised if something ate them. Maybe it'd be best if we return ... MstrOfPppts: Well since no one else made contact yet, you should proceed as planned. I'll keep you updated. Quote
Yzalirk Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 It looks awesome but you should have added some neon blue. Quote
markus1984 Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Absolut great entry! So many details on only 16x16 - really nice work!!! markus Quote
MKJoshA Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Way to fit your sig-fig in! And with such amazing photo work on that too. I wish I had that kind of talent. The entire build is amazing and I know others will comment on the different parts of it, but I want to be the first to say that your base is a very clever use of that turn-table piece! But the whole build is beautiful all around! Quote
Pointblank Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Thats Awesome! :) Loving the use of tentacles and orange wheels. Quote
LucasLaughing Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Now *this* is Felucia. I love how you have the plants towering over the troopers; it really adds to that feeling of being stuck in a strange jungle. The orange flowers are my favorite - they're recognizable as flowers, but also look completely alien. Nice work! Quote
Lord Tyrus Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Nice! I like the flowers, although I feel it is a little bare in places . Quote
Disco86 Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Especially like that you are just in this build as a hologram. There is really no reson that a high Master like you should set a foot on this weird and dangerous planet The built itself is cool. It has some extraordinary building techniques. But for my opinion your build needs more trans-neon-colors. Quote
Wat Tambor Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Fantastic build MstrOfPppts! Your SoNE entries are always a pleasure to have a look at them and this one is no exception. I really like the fact that your character is only as a hologram in the build and not as a minifig what makes completely sense because you are a high officer. The alien plants are so well constructed, really nice part usage of these orange Power Miners drills for building flowers. That has to be my favorite detail in this MOC. Quote
BEAVeR Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Excellent vignette! You've managed to capture the rugged, chaotic feel, while keeping true to your principle: "studs not allowed". Impressive. I really like the ground. The height differences are remarkable, and the chaotic shapes are very interesting to watch. The strange, layered texture actually seems very appropriate for Felucia. I'm not a big fan of all the reflections, however. They ruin the realism a bit. Maybe next time, if you want a smooth and dirty terrain, try working with older bricks, or give them a dustbath or something like that... if you trust the instinct of someone who hasn't played with real LEGO for a long time... . Another small issue is how the vegetation just pops up from the ground. I don't really see the connection between the plants and the soil. There are no roots, or the ground doesn't indicate that there are roots below. And it would be nice to have a slightly more gradual transition between the ground and the plant. Maybe there could be some small stalks at the bottom, or an area of the soil with a different color... Maybe just some loose tiles or cheese slopes that indicate some sprawling towards the bottom, or fallen leafs. That way, the vegetation would look a bit less artificial in the way it is connected to the environment, and you would have more of a complete scene. Finally, I like how your vegetation occupies multiple levels. Sadly, there are not many places where these levels overlap. It would be great to have some plants overhanging others, as that would create an even denser feel. The vegetation itself is really nice, and it really is Felucia flora (I checked with the reference material), so I can't really comment on the design of the plants. I can only say that it is a very nice translation to the brick, and the color choices you made are really effective. Well, maybe there could be some more medium-dark colors, so that you don't have the huge contrast between the very light colors (tan, white and orange) and the black. Then it would really seem as if the jungle occupies every color of the spectrum, and that would make it even more psychedelic. Now that you've reached this stage of design, it's time for the next challenge. The nice thing about nature is that there are plants in every stage of their life. So it would be great to see here some smaller, not fully grown versions of the plants, and some remains of those that already have perished. That would give more variation within the same species, and a more natural look. It would be a challenge to scale those plants, and you could imagine different stages in the life of such a plant, but you're someone who could handle that. So all in all, this is another one of your marvelous builds. I hope to see more in this episode! Quote
Dapper-D2 Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 I love those big orange, green, and black plants and that base is beautiful as usual with your builds. Quote
TenorPenny Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 The trans-yellow upward flowers are just wonderful. Quote
Donnie Bricko Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Very cool depection of Felucia...it looks like these stormies could be headed for death by quicksand (one can hope). Nice work Quote
Covi Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Beside your MOC (which is/are always of high standards) I really think that hologram idea is soooooo cool. Very nicely done. Quote
MstrOfPppts Posted September 13, 2014 Author Posted September 13, 2014 (edited) Thanks everyone and ofcourse I have to give credit for the border idea to LegoFjotten who used it in episode III I think ... Yes there might be some lack of blue, but the huge daisies should be blue and the wheels don't exist in that color. About the more undergrowth, I think it's fine as it is, since I really went for the deserty part of the planet with only huge flowers sticking out of the ground. After a bit more research and image searching I do think there's plenty of different possibilities to depict Felucia. Mostly anything but the ordinary Earth forrest / jungle would do! P.S.: could a mod squeez Felucia in my title please :) - [soNE Ep. VI] Felucia - Mad jungle search Edited September 13, 2014 by MstrOfPppts Quote
