September 5, 201410 yr Just come up this idea. Not sure if it can really work as I don't get the Tumbler UCS yet. :) I guess your wheelhub will not fit into the rim of the Tumbler.

September 6, 201410 yr I've got an idea for front steering and suspension, but showing that will have to wait till sunday, as I work tommorow.

January 7, 201510 yr I'm trying to build a UCS-scale Tumbler—obviously the steering is a big difficulty. Any reason to think that this solution won't work (i.e. rim [green] grinding against the liftarms [red])? The wheel is attached to a 4M cross axle with stop, secured on the opposite with two half bushes.

Any reason to think that this solution won't work (i.e. rim [green] grinding against the liftarms [red])? The wheel is attached to a 4M cross axle with stop, secured on the opposite with two half bushes. I would guess, that the steering arm will touch the thin 3L beam when steering to the left. This might not be a problem with low steering angles, but it still isn't very elegant. It would probably work better if you make the steeing hub with 4L thin beams somehow and use a axle pin on the longer end. That way it wouldn't touch and probably work better.
January 7, 201510 yr This would give more range but the connection would be weaker. It could be reinforced by switching to the cross axle pin (as used on the steering rack) and using 2L half-beams, but this would come with a reduced range.
January 7, 201510 yr Changing the 2L liftarm to a 2L half liftarm, gives you about 5 degrees reduction. Turning the tyre towards the steering arm, you can move 20 degrees; 25 degrees in the version posted. In both cases you're hitting the tyre with the steering arm before you hit the liftarm. The original version (with 3L half liftarms) gives you 10 degrees of movement towards the tyre.
January 7, 201510 yr The whole wheel is supported by two half-stud axle connections? That's not going to hold. I wouldn't rely on such a poor connection even in much smaller models. By the way I gave up on a Tumbler project because of the front suspension. Believe me, even if you fix the thing I mentioned, two bent liftarms even with vertical reinforcement (which ads to the thickness and height of the suspension arm, thus gets ugly very fast) is going to twist like crazy. August 25, 20159 yr Hi guys!, I just got the tumbler and just joined Eurobrick...I do not know why it took me so much time hehe. Well I want to share with you the design I came up for the steering system with independent suspension. Cesar :) Edited August 25, 20159 yr by cacg88
August 25, 20159 yr Given the weight of the beast, I sincerely doubt your suspensions will work when the model is complete. As for the steering, it might be difficult as well : the weight may cause hard frictions on the ground.

Hey thanks for replying :), cool flickr images you have :) In relation to your comments I appreciate them and I will keep posting the progress. The current stage is the reinforcement of the chassis, to fit battery box, servo, etc... I have tested the system with the tires and put some bags of old batteries and it worked ok... nevertheless the suspension has been reinforced....and as any prototype subject to several changes ;)
August 25, 20159 yr Ok. I will look at the next step of the project. I like 76023 very much (I think I will have to buy it ), and I am very interested in what people can design regarding that system. Btw, it would be very interesting to have Adam's (the designer of the set) opinion on that matter. Did he know that he would never succeed to add such a mechanism, and so, it was off the table since the very beginning of the project ? Did he try to put it on the model, but even with the help of coaches (Anders), he could never figure out how ? That would be interesting...

I think the designer did a terrific work as a display model, but I think that many fans were expecting a more functional vehicle....I think it will certainly interesting to ehar his story on the design of the model. Well guys I attached the video of the final result from my modifications to the tumbler...
September 5, 20159 yr That's pretty cool! I gave up on a Tumbler model* because of the front suspension and steering. Yours seems to work fine and it's visually okay too. Congratulations! *I wanted to build a fully studless, "street" version of it, with gearbox, opening doors and everything else you can find in a Lego supercar.
September 6, 20159 yr Cacg88, you did a great job, kudos to you. Outstanding MOD because you preserved the look and design of the Original Model ... May i ask you for instructions? At least for front suspension/steering? I know this is a lot of effort but it would ne great... But of course just a plea... Again: Great work!

I certainly enjoy this little MOD project :) I hope to be able to work in the instructions, at least for the front suspension in the next weeks,,,as soon I have them, will post them here :)
September 14, 20159 yr Thanks Lipko and Kumbbl! I certainly enjoy this little MOD project :) I hope to be able to work in the instructions, at least for the front suspension in the next weeks,,,as soon I have them, will post them here :) This is awesome, will you also do instructions for how to motorise the rear and suspension please? Also all the extra parts required? thanks a lot!
September 14, 20159 yr Amazing job, i just bought a second hand tumblernd i just want to add the steering front wheels, yours work really good. I wait the instructions or more detailed pics to make them, appreciated and again great job done by you!
