nivremis Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 (edited) A good scout should always trust his gut feel.. and something felt wrong about this. Zorlek had been watching the traveler deep in sleep under the tree for almost an hour now, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. The others were getting impatient, it'd been way too long since they last had fresh meat. Zorlek peered through the leaves again.... "Light armor, and only a wooden staff on top of being soundly asleep. Against 4 orcs. No problems at all." Zorlek tried to convince himself. Still.. Finally, he decided that enough was enough. He took a deep breath, and signaled to the rest to proceed. With caution. Orcs weren't by nature the most stealthy, but as the 4 of them crept slowly towards the traveler, he barely seemed to even stir. Zorlek started to relax a little. There'd be food soon. He adjusted the leaves to get a better view, and watched as the others got within striking distance... And everything exploded. In a blur of movement, with the distinct crunches of a staff striking true, mingling with the roars of pain, confusion and the horrible sound of breaking bones, the traveler burst forth from his slumber. Moving so quickly it seemed like he was everywhere, it was all over in a second, the traveler standing silent a midst the battered bodies of the orcs. Zorlek muffled a cry and prayed that he wouldn't be spotted, all as a warm trickle ran down his leg. It's been a fair while since I've posted anything, been wayyy to busy with real life. Had the urge to do a quick simple build tonight, struggled with inspiration for awhile, but thought I'd just start and see what came to mind. Decided to play around with the idea of someone moving ridiculously quickly (think the flash in old school cartoons), does it work for everyone?. C&Cs are as usual more than welcome. IenjoyLego89 Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 I really like it, the for figures to represent the speed was a great idea. The first two shots of the Orc peeking through the undergrowth was well done. All in all I really like it :) Quote
Venkefedo Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Very successful! The capes as motion lines/speed blurs look really good! Quote
Gideon Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Very nice build, I especially like the multiple figs showing fast movement! The photography between some palm leaves was also very clever Quote
Kai NRG Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Nice work, especially that first shot! Using multiple figs to represent movement is an interesting idea that I think did work fairly well! Quote
Hobbythom Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Nicely done. The white on the movement ' shots' did throw me off a bit but the story kept it together. Do you mind telling me where the sleeping face is from? Quote
Yzalirk Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Very nice pictures and the story with it is pretty good. Quote
Scaevola Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 A nice little moc. The leaf idea is inventive, but it obscures the moc a little too much in my opinion. Good job overall Quote
TheLegoDr Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 (edited) Nice little vignette. I assume you used lighter colors for the quick movement. I was puzzled at first thinking it was some sort of sorcery that was actually holding multiple people in the appearance of just one sleeping person based on the color change. Hobbythom - And the sleepyhead is probably from the Sleepyhead CMF figure. Edited August 23, 2014 by TheLegoDr Quote
Rolli Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Nice little vignette with some great ideas there, I really like it! Love the "peaking through" moment as it adds so much it and the multiple minifig thing is really well done! Keep up the great work! Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Great idea an beautiful realization! Nicely done! Quote
nivremis Posted August 23, 2014 Author Posted August 23, 2014 Thank you all for the kind words. I did wonder if the leaves would obscure too much of the actual moc, then thought no one really needed to see more generic path/grass/forest floor building. Glad to see most thought the same. Also played around with using figures of the same colour, but thought it looked a little too... static if that makes sense. And yep, head from CMF sleepyhead. Quote
mccoyed Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Another really inventive MOC today. Great ideas and great photography. Quote
Hammerhand Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Great job portraying the action. I like how you make him "lighter" to portray that he's moving fast. Quote
soccerkid6 Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 The picture with the scout peeking through the leaves is superb Great way to portray quick movement with the numerous figs as well Quote
Maxim I Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Very nice photography!! The effect of one soldier being everywhere came out absolutely nice! Quote
Garmadon Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Awesome work with the first shot, nivremis, and great idea with the multiple minifigs I agree with Hammerhand that making the other minifigs lighter really works well Nice story, it's great to have you building again Quote
nivremis Posted August 27, 2014 Author Posted August 27, 2014 Thanks guys, great to see the multiple figures idea worked for everyone, was hoping it wouldn't just be my own imagination that made it work for me. It's good to be back.. Quote
Thomas of Tortuga Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Yes, those multiple figs look great. Also, I love this idea. It goes perfectly as a medieval/fantasy superpower, but it doesn't seem too cartoony or magical. Quote
