General Magma Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Yes a MOC contest would show TLG that there are many enthusiasts out there who really wish to continue this theme! I think the problem with the petition is that you have to sign up at this website! And many of us do not want to become a member there! Does anyone have more information about this website change.org?! Honestly I just signed up without reading anything about the website just to help this competition! But for sure there are many out there who doesn't want to sign up for just helping one small petition! Signing up is not required, as far as I know. Quote
atreyu2112 Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 We'll, DUH ... Wave 2 LotR SUCKED! Would kids want Rivendell over Balrog battle? Hell no! Black Gate (a black wall basically) with a dude only in extended edition of film for 1 minute over Witch King on his Fell Beast dragon doing battle with Eowyn & Merry, all in full battle armor? OH HELL NO! A boat that's in like 2 minutes of the whole trilogy over Minas Tirith with Faramir & Gondor Soldiers... I can't fault Wizard Battle even though it was stupid that it came in Orthanc. Not many kids can throw down $200. But it *could* have been Prologue Sauron, Elendil and Isildur -- -- -- I mean seriously, who made the decisions for these sets? Did they watch the film? If I was a little boy, ALL I'd want from: FotR would be the BALROG, Prologue Battle, Weathertop (nice set), Mines of Moria (nice set) and Amon Hen TTT - everything we got plus Treebeard RotK - part of Osgiliath, part of Minas Tirith, the Witch King & Fell Beast, Faramir, Eowyn, the Black Gate set we got but with 2 towers to make a real gate (duh!!!!), Selob (great set), Battle Trolls, Oliphants, Haradrim, Easterlings, Grond ... I'd want to recreate the cool parts of the film, not the Extended Edition 2 seconds of crap that really didn't have much to do with the film at all. The people at TLG need to wake up! Blame yourself, LEGO, for poor sales ... You put out a crap wave 2 for LotR. And now your customers are left short changed. Do the right thing here!!! My post was in response to this post: Actually, I think that Lego is canceling the last LOTR sets because they *won't* be making that much of a profit, due to the slow sales of the second wave of LOTR, and probably the fact that many retailers had to clearance them and aren't very interested in more. I travel to many stores in large chains like target, Walmart, etc., and the LOTR/Hobbit sets are only shelved in some, not all. I'm on mobile version... Lol Quote
Black Numenorean Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 almost 1000 sign! Come on people ^^! Quote
SMC Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 950 lets get 1000 this weekend and hit all the website again Monday morning Quote
Venunder Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Rather than sign a petition to save Lord of the Rings I suggest that we all support the Ideas projects based on LOTR then maybe just maybe Lego will see there is still demand for LOTR and we might, might get the third line that we need. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/69033 https://ideas.lego.com/projects/76892 https://ideas.lego.com/projects/75997 https://ideas.lego.com/projects/76389 https://ideas.lego.com/projects/76086 https://ideas.lego.com/projects/76166 https://ideas.lego.com/projects/75620 https://ideas.lego.com/projects/74237 https://ideas.lego.com/projects/72851 https://ideas.lego.com/projects/70624 Quote
Trunkbass Posted September 6, 2014 Author Posted September 6, 2014 Well, I did both. Let's sign the petition and support as many LotR/Hobbit related projects as you possibly can! Quote
Deathleech Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Rather than sign a petition to save Lord of the Rings I suggest that we all support the Ideas projects based on LOTR then maybe just maybe Lego will see there is still demand for LOTR and we might, might get the third line that we need. The problem with that is, best case scenario, we only get one more set. And even IF one of those projects gets 10,000 supports that doesn't guarantee the set will be made. I imagine the chances are slim to none due to existing license issues, need for new molds, size of the sets (Lego Idea projects that get made into sets seem to stick around the 30-80 dollar mark), etc. Also, I know a number of people who love Lego LotR but don't support some of those projects due to one reason or another. With this petition we can gather ALL Lego LotR fans into one place. Quote
TheRedViper Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 (edited) I am commenting on popular YouTube videos of Lego lotr and the hobbit, asking people to sign the petition, and maybe if more of us did this we could get more signatures. Simply pasting the petition in the comments section could work. Edited September 6, 2014 by TheRedViper Quote
atreyu2112 Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 (edited) I hope everyone realizes that once Lego's license expires, there will not be any more official LotR merchandise for a VERY VERY long time. So getting as many signatures onto this petition should be the top priority of every LotR & Lego LotR fan. Rather than sign a petition to save Lord of the Rings I suggest that we all support the Ideas projects based on LOTR then maybe just maybe Lego will see there is still demand for LOTR and we might, might get the third line that we need. I've already supported ALL the ideas I would buy, but like others have said, not one of those sets will get made. The Hobbit *almost* didn't get made due to licensing & rights... Lego's license is probably very strict. Our only saving grace is that they've already designed everything we want in the video game. So if it's in the game, it can be made. BimmerBoy Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 I'm not really into Lego LOTR (only got Shelob for a Halloween display; considered Helm's Deep), but I have to say the 2nd wave was bad and turned me off completely. I easily would've bought a Witch King & Fell Beast set, and probably considered others if the 2nd wave had been better. Quote

Simply pasting the petition in the comments section could work. That's great! I will try YouTube as well, even though this got me suspended on LEGO Ideas I hope everyone realizes that once Lego's license expires, there will not be any more official LotR merchandise for a VERY VERY long time. So getting as many signatures onto this petition should be the top priority of every LotR & Lego LotR fan. That's right! We need to get to a respectable number as soon as possible to maybe make a difference. I'm not really into Lego LOTR (only got Shelob for a Halloween display; considered Helm's Deep), but I have to say the 2nd wave was bad and turned me off completely. I easily would've bought a Witch King & Fell Beast set, and probably considered others if the 2nd wave had been better. Well a lot of people here feel that if Wave 2 was more as we thought it would be, sales would be better and we would have gotten a third wave. Good news people. We have reached a thousand signatures! Hurray!!! *Hobbit table dance* Maybe it is time to get some Eurobricks frontpage love? Edited September 8, 2014 by Trunkbass Quote
Kraby Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Currently crossing fingers that this 1000 signatures checkpoint will give us more exposure... Don't know what I can personnaly do about it though, kinda frustrating... Quote
SMC Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 So as I said I would when we got to 1000, I have emailed the right people on eurobricks and brickset asking if they would consider putting something on there front page. I also contracted the brick show again but don't really have a good way to do that. If anyone knows anyone or has any contact info for anyone that runs a site or channel now is the time to contact them. Quote
TheRedViper Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Great work guys on getting it to 1000! Quote
Blakstone Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 SMC, I think each of the Mods are able to post to the front page. I would recommend you just PM a History MOD. Quote

Dr.Cogg Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 what I don't get is why didn't Lego release a Balrog , a Minis Tirith ,oliphant wave and then release the 2nd wave as the 3rd wave ? Quote

This. If they'd done that and then cancelled the range without the sets that were wave 2 people would have been sad that the range had ended, but not bemused and disappointed like they are now. Quote
atreyu2112 Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 I touched base with Elessar over at TORn to let them know we hit 1000 supporters and this is the response: That's awesome! I do plan to email them this week with this info and let them know we at TORn would be sad if they stopped doing stuff. Before I put it on the FP I do have to run it by other torn folks. by "them" he means Lego. I'm not sure if they have other means of contacting Lego directly or not, but hey, we might be a step away from getting front page over at TORn!!! Quote

By TORN contacting Lego they have more leverage and influence in the LOTR community. At the very least Lego may be able to shed some light on Lego LOTR's fate. Quote

Deathleech Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 (edited) what I don't get is why didn't Lego release a Balrog , a Minis Tirith ,oliphant wave and then release the 2nd wave as the 3rd wave ? Honestly, after working on my own LotR dream wave I can kind of emphasis with Lego. Minas Tirith alone has been a HUGE pain. Everyone knows it would have to be condensed, but there is so much more consideration that goes into it. Everyone has different ideas about how much to condense it, what parts of the city to include, which minifigures to include, etc. This doesn't even address needing to hit certain price points, piece counts, play features, mold budgets, being kid friendly, or what the licensee may require. Sure Lego could just nix Minas Tirith and do something else like Osgiliath, but then you run into the issue of certain minifigures not fitting into a set like that (Eowyn), or a number of other issues such as it's just a bunch or ruined buildings as the build, it's not as iconic, etc. With Eowyn and the Witch King you can't really include them together in any other set besides MT because there is nothing to satisfy the brick built component of the set. What is the Pelennor Fields build supposed to be when it's all flat plains? I really feel for Lego and better understand some of their decisions now. With that said Lego does have entire teams who's sole job is to build sets so I definitely think they could come up with a little more than they did. A few more LotR sets could satisfy everyone.
