August 27, 201410 yr If you are looking for just general bricks you can get the buckets that Lego makes at toy stores. If there are very specific parts that you want/need I would try Bricklink.com
August 27, 201410 yr The most preferred way for me would be the Pick-a-Brick wall at a Lego Store IF the store is not far from you, and they happen to have a particular part(s) you need. There, you could find the most value if you can pack the cup tightly. The primary disadvantage is that their inventory is fairy random and limited in choice. My dream would be to have a Lego Store the size of a Walmart where the PIck-a-Brick area pretty well has every part and color being manufactured that is not attached to a license theme. Otherwise, I use Bricklink for 90% of the pieces I need for the MOC.
August 27, 201410 yr I actually just buy alot of sets. I know it's counter intuitive, because it means spending more to get bricks, but I don't mind having tons if material. Especially, if it's sets that have alot of terrain bricks that I didn't even know I wanted. That's part of the fun buying sets, is finding material you normally wouldn't look at and then thinking if how you could use it. Plus you can always sell the figures to recover some costs.
August 27, 201410 yr I would agree with Hawkman. Sets are always a good choice. With new themes and ranges coming in Lego are always designing new parts. Bricklink is of course the second option, very reliable to get the parts you need. As for Pick-a-Brick... Well, at least in my Lego store, I find it quite limiting in some areas. It dosen't always have the parts I'm after. Hence why buying sets is a good option.
