Mikuri Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Is Elves only for girls? Nah, they're for parts looking AFOLS too :D Quote
Lyichir Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Is Elves only for girls? Elves IS for girls—it's very clearly designed to appeal to young girls like the Friends theme, and will probably be shelved near Friends in the "pink aisle" of many retailers. But it's not ONLY for girls any more than Friends is ONLY for girls, or for that matter, any more than Ninjago or Bionicle or Star Wars are ONLY for boys. Anyone who wants a Lego set is free to buy it just like anyone else, and while an adult male might get some funny looks at the checkout counter with a cart full of Elves sets, if the sets appeal to you then there's no point in bowing to social pressure. 8BrickMario Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Hey, until the gorgeous fence parts make it into mainstream sets- get these! There are some great parts, unique hair colors, and scenarios. There are even a couple of Friends sets that interest me- and I am firmly in the group of sets that are not at all girly. Have you seen SilentMode? He didn't care about his Friends consumption! Quote
LEGO Family Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 I love these sets so far for parts. Offcourse its directed towards girls. That kinda hurts me. As someone mentioned earlier, it comes closely to the colour scheme for world of warcraft. I wont hav a problem walking into my local LEGO store buying these sets though. Then again they know me .. Personnaly im looking forward to learn more about this theme. On the other hand, ive teached my stepson that to achieve colours to make ones MOC´s special / outstanding, mostly one will have to buy friends sets. I just cant se the problem you guys have with buying these sets. Fantasy / historical / adventure LEGO could use a lot of colours and more ambient chilled approach than just the usual LOTR approach. Dont get me wrong, im not ditching LOTR, but wont most of you agree that its becoming to much of the same builds style wise the last couple of years ? Quote
gedren_y Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 I have no reservation about using pastel pieces. I have found a darker use for the pink and magenta pieces. Purples of any shade make for great details. It may take me a while to cozy up to the mini-doll, but I'll be experimenting with the possible uses of the parts. The mini-doll head is about the shape of an acorn. Quote
8BrickMario Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 The pastel hair looks interesting. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 The new colours for hair and many other parts is making this theme look very tempting. (Alas my bank balance, I knew ye well...) though I am sadly doubtful on how well it will sell. Which would be great come clearance sale time but not so good in the way of theme lifespan and also acceptance of "Girl" LEGO. Quote
Dorayaki Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 (edited) Is Elves only for girls? Well, is Elves a new brand of underwears? I think it's been discussed before. Minidolls were developed mainly for attracting girls so the themes using minidolls are, too. But we all know that LEGO isn't something exactly for a certain gender, you're allowed to play LEGO and not be restricted by the default purpose of that theme (unless you're underage). Friends was at first a good reminder that girls can be into System-scale LEGO, but it's stupid to say "you have to choose certain LEGO sets judging by your gender".The difference between Friends and Elves is that Elves seems to focus more on characters than buildings. Friends buildings are compatible with City and Town, while Elves are more independent in its own style, and the characters are less like army builders. This trait is pretty similiar with Ninjago and other action themes. With that said, unless the Elves characters become quite popular and wellknown like MyLittlePony franchise, this theme could be a natural "no" to some FOLs (especially boys) who are not into both minidolls and MOCs. Only Sinner Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Well our family refuses to succumb to gender-specific biases concerning clothing and toys. My girls like anything they can build and play with; Creator, City, Kingdoms, HP, Friends. The Elves sets are going to be great for them because of the colors, and unique pieces. Being that it's a girly theme with a possible media like tv show to accompany it, is just a nice bonus. Don't be embarrassed to like something just because other people have decided for you what you should be interested in. Quote
smittyfan Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Don't be embarrassed to like something just because other people have decided for you what you should be interested in. Well said. Loving the color schemes, and variety of new pieces. Cute littly foxy! What does the fox say? "Show me the Carfax!" All these picture/set related links are getting pulled as fast as they're being posted. Bummer However there is yet another blog site that has all of the 6 glorious sets pictured. Just search Kollectobil. Here's hoping by not posting the actual links LEGO won't come along and try to remove them. They've got pictures for most of the new 2015 LEGO sets. They've got a search bar on their site too, so type in 'Elves', and you'll find 'em. Between the new Disney Princess and the Elves lines, my wallet is going to hurt.. Quote
CptPJs Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Save the images to your computer, then when they get pulled it won't matter? Quote
Lyichir Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Santa's Elves? Not from the looks of it. Not by a long shot. Quote
smittyfan Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Save the images to your computer, then when they get pulled it won't matter? Not too worried about that considering they'll be releasing in a matter of months. Quote
Sarah Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Santa's Elves? They remind me more of Tinkerbell and her ilk. And that's probably how my daughter will play with them since right now she's fascinated with Tinkerbelle Quote
Richila Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 (edited) I need that ship! Edited September 26, 2014 by Richila Quote
just2good Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 I have some Elves pictures that I cannot share now, but there's a SIX STEMMED FLOWER PIECE! Quote
8BrickMario Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 We knew it! Does that mean they'll have to make seven-flower sprue pieces to accomodate the new stems? Quote
Lyichir Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 We knew it! Does that mean they'll have to make seven-flower sprue pieces to accomodate the new stems? Seven flowers wouldn't make much sense. At that point, they might as well just include two of the four-flower sprues. Quote
omegabob Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 (edited) That Tree House Hideaway looks pretty cool. If I end up getting it I'll probably swap out some of the brighter colors for more earth-toned ones for my own personal taste but a good looking set either way. And if the Elves hair fits regular minifigs like the Friend's hair does then I can use it to add some variety to my LotR Elves...or this might be what finally gets me to give the minidoll some consideration. slovakiasteph Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Seven flowers wouldn't make much sense. At that point, they might as well just include two of the four-flower sprues. I'm pretty sure that was a joke-- since we currently have four-flower sprues for 3-stem pieces. :) Quote
Bricknblue Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Is Elves only for girls? Yes, they check ID and make sure to only sell the sets to females. I can't wait until we get some newer pictures because these sets look so awesome, some of my favorites of 2015. Quote
---Vertea--- Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Oh man, the sail on that boat.... This theme is delicious for fantasy MOCs and anything even slightly whimsically inclined or magically themed. I really hope those elemental tiles are printed. Quote
plastic_ati Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 (edited) There will be too much superior parts in these sets. I will surely buy some (if not the whole line...) Edited October 4, 2014 by plastic_ati Quote
