How many here have already gotten all the sets so far?

My brother and I have all of them except the playmat, the diary, and the Azari polybag. We're reviewing the sets for The New Elementary!

I want to put together an Elves MOC for Brickfair Virginia this year. Not sure what I'd build, though. At Brick Universe in Raleigh last month, I was struck by how many girls were visiting with their families during the public days. I made a point of asking any kids that came by what themes were their favorites, and so many of the girls said LEGO Friends. And while that makes me extremely proud of LEGO for doing so much to bring girls into the hobby, it also makes me a bit worried that those girls might feel a little bit marginalized at AFOL events like this, at which so few of the models on display are focused on those kinds of "girly" themes.

Unfortunately, I'm not very good at building big, impressive scenes from LEGO. So far the only two MOC awards I've won at LEGO conventions both had "small" in the name (Best Small Space Craft at Brickfair Virginia for the Blacktron Vivisector and Best Small Creation at Brick Universe for Delwyn Buckler). So creating something that can really draw the public's eye, not to mention make up for the dearth of other Friends and Elves creations, will be a considerable challenge for me.

It could also be a simple typo in a message meant to say "Elven". :p

(No, I don't really think that's what it is. But you never know...).

Could be, but who knows. If new episodes are coming, that might mean new winter sets are too. Exciting.

I have all of the sets so far. Eagerly awaiting the summer sets.

Do you have all of the sets Blondie-Wan?

Aanchir - An Elves MOC would be awesome. I'm sure it would be well received, especially by fans of fantasy and RPG. Hopefully now that girl oriented themes are becoming more popular they'll make their way into more AFOL events in the near future.

Well although it's impossible for me to attend, I'm sure people would like to share interests with fantasy world materials, not just younger girls. Wish to see your best work there.

And generlly I think the main issue is that we haven't been familiar with the exact building style of Elves. Maybe a bigger and higher version of treehouses, or a temple for elven goddess?

There are some very clear architectural motifs in the sets for this year, actually. The defining features are gothic arches for windows and doors, steep peaked roofs with a gentle convex curve, and buildings and structures that are integrated with their natural environment.

I've sketched all sorts of ideas for Elves MOCs on Lego Digital Designer. But I have to choose whether to try building one of those physically, or whether I should try to design something different. And either way, we'll likely have to make a Bricklink order or two to get the parts we need.

I would love to help Aanchir, sadly I'm far away and I also specialise in smaler builds. I do want to show you my Elves creation, but I need borrow better camera first!

I do agree notr many afols build with girls in mine, but thankfully you are here!

Well Lordofdragonss, I do hope someone lets you borrow a camera. There are not nearly enough Elves creations on the web.

I wish I was closer to Virginia, I'd love to attend Brickfair and see all the great MOCs.

The architecture is one of the aspects that attracted me to the Elves theme. I've played around with Elves ideas on LDD as well, I just wish the new elements were available. Last I checked, they weren't. I think it'd be fun to start physically building some of your ideas from LDD and tweak them while building, it might inspire something else. I don't know about you, but all sorts of new ideas jump into my head once I'm physically working with Lego.

The new elements aren't on LDD, but luckily the only Elves parts notably absent from LDD relies on are either figures/figure accessories (not a huge priority when trying to build a structure), printed parts (easily substituted, and not hard to imagine), and the new Elves fence piece (for which the classic fence is perfectly adequate as a substitute). There are a few parts from other themes that I wouldn't mind having, such as the new flame pieces from Chima, but for the most part the current selection is plenty, at least for brainstorming.

I've got a pretty snazzy lighthouse in the works. I'm happier with it than I had been for my other Elves MOCs, so I'll probably put together a Bricklink order sometime soon.

I hope LEGO will make another Elves polybag that contains figure from any expensive sets besides Azari.

Maybe it will be great if they make an Emily Jones polybag because she is the main character for the theme along with the four elemental elves.

I don't know how I never noticed this before... but I just realised Aira's Pegasus Sleigh has a "Friends-ified" baby dragon in it. I love it!

What is funny though is that last year, I joked wiith one of my friends about having a Friends friendly dragon and I actually drew what one would look like as a joke - little did I realise back then that it was to become an actual thing this year... even if it's not pink and doesn't have a bow in it's tail

Uhhh the Queen lady has Loki's staff...

You mean the Pharaoh's Quest Staff? Because it was introduced for that theme a full year before it was used for Loki. I'm glad to see it reused for this theme, since it has a nice Elven feel.

As a side note, Skyra (the "Queen lady") kind of reminds me of Emmeryn from Fire Emblem: Awakening, at least as far as her appearance is concerned (her personality couldn't be more different).

Yeah I pointed the dragon when I saw preliminaries, I really like it's design, and I hope we will get mom too :D

And there is new Friendly-Owl in the castle too!

My only complain I noticed just right now is that none of the pegasi has sadle... At least the one in castle should had one...

But it's wings fault :P

The Brick Bounty thirsts for blood, and the lack of other available ships sailing the lego seas these days has left my scurvy dogs setting their sights squarely on Naida's adventure ship. Undergunned ships always make the best prizes!

Sorry, ladies.

Hi,

I just did a review of set 41075: The Elves’ Treetop Hideaway (in german „Das mystische Elfenversteck“).

I really do enjoy the great new colours and of course the fine fantasy-idea behind this new series. :classic:

Have a nice day.

It wasva joke...but Loki's (atleast in the new Avengers sets) also had the same blue jewel as Skyra.

Huh, so it does (albeit Trans. Dark Blue instead of Trans. Light Blue). I was thinking about Loki's staff from the original Avengers sets, which rather cleverly paired the staff element with one of the sais from Lego Ninjago.

Does anyone think that if this theme really takes off, there might be other beings such as fairies?

Not sure about fairies (especially considering that in fiction with clear distinctions between elves and fairies, fairies are typically diminutive). But I wouldn't doubt that we'll see others. Mermaids in particular were directly referenced in the TV special, and mini-doll mermaid tails already exist thanks to the Disney Princess range. So if the theme continues I don't doubt that mermaids will feature at some point.
