If this theme were to get moved to another subforum, I think the best existing subforum would be action themes — the category that is generally used to house most not-quite-historic, not-quite-futuristic, not-quite-modern-day themes. However, this theme is much less action-oriented than a lot of those examples. Maybe it'd work if the Action Themes subforum were renamed "Adventure Themes" it'd work, but that might be seen as TOO all-encompassing.

All things considered, I think it fits pretty well in Historic themes for right now, even if its world is based more on fantasy stories, myths, and folklore than on actual history.

I like the look of the new parts, fences particularly. I'm not sure where I'd use them but they're definitely nice...

^I had the thought to use them in Rivendell maybe??

Some nice fantasy colors in this theme. I will pass on the figures, but there are a few sets that might be worth picking up.

The male mini-doll in 41074 has elf ears. They are just hard to see given the color. There appears to be a new flower base piece, similar to the one that came with the CMF Bride and CMF Hippie, but with more stems.

Well I will be buying that 9.99 set just for those scissors!

That was the standout for me too

Saw them right away and thought "wait, can it really be that my lego people have never had scissors?"

Kinda hoping for a city ribbon-cutting ceremony set now, or a Minifigures.. Dressmaker? Barber? Kindergarden teacher? Look at all them possibilities!

Ooh and now I see that balcony railing everyones going on about, very cool. Oh and trans-orange chain has a new companion, trans-purple chain! But for me, I still just want the scissors.

Extra Edit:

And the old seashell pieces have a big ol' momma?

So... do the hairpieces still seem to have clearance for regular fig shoulders? And is the theme's full name Elves: The No-Stakes Quest for Gaudy Magic Hairbrushes?

Well, as far as I've experienced with the few minidoll sets that I own, generally the hair pieces can sometimes be rubber, and almost all the time they can be transferred onto minifigure heads. As for the other way around, no guarantees.

I think the treasures are meant to be keys, not hairbrushes.

Seems to me that almost all Lego themes these days fit the "Action Themes" forum.

Maybe we should call this forum "History & Adventure" or "History & Fantasy" to placate those that argue against the fantasy castle & LOTR etc from being "historical".

Well there has to be something to keep the Historic Theme Forum moving. Lord of the Rings doesn't look like we will get any more sets and there's no new castles theme in sights. I think Elves belongs in this forum.

In my opinion I don't like the doll figures but I'll buy the sets just for the other parts and hair. I'm thinking the purple leaves would look pretty cool in a forest scene with black used as the tree trunks. The boat would look pretty good in my collection [after I take off all the flowers]

I think you're right about Emily's identity. And I'll bet the human boy in 41074 is probably a friend or sibling.

I think the reason for not using the Tinker Bell/Disney Fairies license is apparently DVD and merchandise sales have been declining. Two films in the franchise that were in development have been cancelled, and the MMOG released in 2008 closed last year. Even the Pixie Hollow attraction at Walt Disney World is apparently closed permanently as part of an ongoing expansion (which was originally going to include a new, larger Pixie Hollow area, but those plans were scrapped).

I'm not saying the franchise hasn't been successful, but I think it's well past its peak and the LEGO Group would not have a lot to gain from seeking a license for it. Furthermore, it would not be that advantageous for the LEGO Group to make licensed products the majority of their girl-oriented product portfolio. They already have the Disney Princess license, but I think they stand to make more money on an in-house fantasy franchise like LEGO Ninjago where they have complete creative control and don't have to pay royalties.

That scene should be from the world of Elves rather than something like Olivia's Treehouse. Not sure if there are other main human characters beside Emily, the box art doesn't look like that. I'm sure there are some filler characters.

My personal take on the original theme is how do they differentiate from other licenses or competitors who also use the same materials? In the previous LEGO media story advertising, nothing to talk about Mixels and TLM, Ninjago was a pretty typical ninja sentai that also drive robots and vehicles. However there are no other currently popular licenses based on ninjas, so LEGO just chose the right timing to begin their TV show. Chima, on the other hand, has a very enclosed world and backstory so it's sure identifiable,

As for Elves, no story element particularly noticeable (or understandable) so far. A girl coming from another world is a super well-worn story that Peter Pan also used before. Peter Pan franchise has both pros and cons. Its pro is that there are also Indian and Pirates elements that could interest historical and pirate FOLs. The con is that the elves(fairies) aren't in the same size with human, so we may not see TinkleBell as a normal figure along with other Disney stars.

However, since there is still a new film next year, I assume TinkleBell isn't discontinued yet. Wish that there could be some LEGO sets suppose that it doesn't conflict with Elves.

Well, at least the Elves sets do show differences from COBI Winx. COBI Winx heroines are mostly doing the same thing what Friends do in their modern city, while the Elves world look purely fantasywise and historical. Despite of the conflicting problem of LEGO System figures, I'm sure LEGO Elves minidolls look much better than the COBI Winx figures without their wings.

And BTW, I'm not very sure about the new colors of the animals which are exactly the same species from our normal world. Wish that there could be some pegasus, centaur or phoniex.in future sets

Dorayaki, we might see what makes this theme stand out when the official set and theme backstory comes out; its a bit early to make judgements just yet.

Im not thrilled by what I see in the pics. Apart from not being a fan of minidolls or friends-type animals, the reliance on purple, pink and blue looks cold and unnatural to me, for a nature theme. Its just an aesthetic preference. But the treehouse set has plenty of brown, and it looks nicely built. And the bakery moíght be good for earth tones and masonry bricks. The parts are intriguing, especially the carved fence piece and the map. The scissors might come in handy, but they look more like shears - the scale is even more goofy for them than for other parts.

In sum, some parts look nice, but Im not interested in the whole, or the theme as it is.

Well, I have no reason to think this theme wont be a hit with the target audience, so more power to them.

gedren_y pointed out to me that the male character in 41074 is another elf anyway, since he has pointed ears that I hadn't noticed. In any case, he appears to be a supporting character.

I agree it could be cool to see some more fantasy critters, but I like the ones who appear in sets. Not only are they generally based on animals that feature extensively in mythology and folklore, but I'm a sucker for wild-colored elemental critters. The fox and squirrel in particular are adorable!

I seem to have missed the pictures?

Thanks!

Most of the preliminary sets were on Imgur before they were pulled. The new Bionicle, Superheroes, Pirates, and Ninjago were still roughs; while Elves, Technic, Mixels, Chima, City, Friends, Architecture, most Star Wars, Ultra Agents, and some Creator sets seem nearly ready. We also know that the minifigure scale Minecraft sets are slated for a November release.

I'm almost positive this is LEGO's response to the Fairies sets from Playmobil this year.

The sets look very interesting, and the pieces look excellent. I want that purple crystal!

My concern for LEGO is their advertising attitude toward minidolls or girls-oriented themes, as mentioned before. We can see that TLM has received much attention from AFOLs so LEGO even make Comic-Con Exclusives despite it was majorly a film for kids. Needless to say Ninjago and Chima also become more popular than they were at first. However we don't see Friends have that equal advertising like TLM and it's now still mostly regarded as a material for the limited group of consumers.

Since Elves is another chance and it's also closer to the special/historical/action themes, I really hope to see this theme having the "magic" to attract common fans with a better advertising and a potential TV show.

The wings and the reeds are both Warm Gold if I'm not mistaken. Can't tell what color treads are used for the bridge in the Treetop Hideaway. Dark Brown ones already exist thanks to the Ultra Sonic Raider from LEGO Ninjago, but I don't think that's what the treads in that set look like. Good spotting on the new flower stems — I hadn't even realized that they held more flowers than usual. I have a feeling the classic flower stems wouldn't have looked nearly as good in trees like that.

EDIT: Oh look, the topic's been moved. Well, that's nice for me at least. One less subforum to have to check.

I haven't got the parts to try it yet, but actually a Friends-style pegasus would be surprisingly easy to build. Take one Friends horse (if you want to do it out of existing colors, let's pick this one), two of these, one of these to fill out the back, and two Lord of the Rings eagle wings. Voila! One perfect, purist pegasus. Not hard for fans to do, and Lego themselves would have the liberty of recoloring it should they decide to put one in a set.

Yes, I clicked on the "view new posts" button and got sent to post #1.:laugh:

Notice that the forum name has changed to "Action & Adventure"! Well, half of my idea made it I suppose.

So I hadn't checked this topic for about a week and a half, and now it's changed places, led to a subforum name change, had pictures leaked and then taken down from nearly everywhere (except the Google cache...), and about 70B more replies. Whew.

Seriously, this theme looks good. I hope the price-points end up being more than fair, as I have a hard time justifying most Lego purchases, even more so when minidolls are involved (honestly, I like the look of them, but it's the lack of articulation that gets me). I love the new pieces and expanded color scheme, and even the models themselves look decent. TLG has another winner on their hands, for sure.

Yeah, looks like there could be some sidekick elves with the main ones. I thought the male elves are using the Sleepyhead but they're not exactly the same due to the ears. It also feels like some other hairpieces are familiar. Could it be that TLG add holes to the existed hairpieces and insert seperable ears into them?

True, but that means LEGO is indeed able to introduce a pegasus character. I also miss Buckbeak very much.

Is Elves only for girls?
