In both cases you have mentioned, I missed a single piece of brick in places that aren't too obvious. I will double check next time the completed model just to make sure so thanks for pointing that out. I am not sure what the effort comment is about though. It is easy to miss a step sometimes and these models are not hastily built as I take many photographs of the build process in between. I am sure we all have builds where we are missing 1-2 pieces until someone pointed it out. I am not sure what you are referring by Ferrari's camera so if you can elaborate on that it would be great.

It's just that if you're reviewing sets, in my opinion, you need to take extra care not to miss any steps or put bricks in the wrong place. And I can't understand how it's possible to look at that picture of the Ferrari without seeing the big gap - but that might just be me.

The camera is the black 1x2 jumper plate that's supposed to be on top of the car, right behind the driver's head.

Hmmm... maybe scan a copy of the sticker sheet and run it in GIMP so you can recolor it?

Why didn't I think of that? I have sticker paper and a copy of Photoshop... all you need to make custom stickers

You couldn't make the blue P1 even ignoring the stickers and canopy, the wheel arches dont exist in blue (other than the ones on that blue P1 and whatever LEGO has in its labs)

For now you couldn't make it, true. Unless you were willing to go non-purist and paint it (not something I'd really do). Doesn't mean we won't see the piece in blue crop up in a future set though. Maybe if Speed Champions gets a second wave perhaps? A blue car would be perfect as it's my favourite colour :classic:

keep in mind that the speed champs fenders are already in the upcoming City Square set, in dark gray, which will be another new color, though it looks like there are only 2 in that set at this point.... still i expect to see the fenders widely used in other sets, here's hoping for that gorgeous dark blue!

The P1 looks great in blue, but I don't understand why the original model wasn't in McLaren's, racing heritage, orange :classic:

The Lego model is in the same(similar) color that the car was unveiled to the public wearing at the 2013 Geneva Auto Show...

Well, this is pretty off-topic, but the men in question DID "drive" some of the models in this line.

Here goes...

Hello, they used to be Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond (not sure who they are now), and they're gonna do a live action arena tour. Yep, they're back, and they might just go Netflix.

That makes sense, I remember seeing that :classic:

A friendly reminder to all of you...

Please keep this discussion strictly to LEGO Sets on 2015 Speed Champions. Do not attempt to de-rail the discussion.

Your cooperation is greatly appreciated to make this discussion 'on topic'. Thank you.

ReBrick's got a contest!!! Build what you think is next, new McLaren in brick and you might just snag a seat to the Goodwond Festival of Speed and see lots of epic and legendary cars!!! Specific stipulations are right in here, but I'll give you some of the key stuff:

  1. "Maximum measurements for the model are the size of a shoebox: 33cm x 19cm x 10.06 cm. You can build a car that would fit inside a shoebox of that size or a smaller car placed in a diorama that you fit inside those measurements but the model must not exceed this size". Max scale: 1:18, I guess.
  2. Something something press buzzwords "should show a clear understanding of the McLaren brand" and other buzzwords. Question: What's a McLaren for you? Once you have a clear answer, build that car.

Winner goes to Goodwond along with another person and should admit to the nearest hospital immediately afterward to replace their salivary glands and bladder and other key body parts that may malfunction due to seeing REALLY COOL CARS!!!, the other three blokes that get in the top 4 will have their models displayed at Goodwond along with the winner, get free sweg from McLaren as well as Speed Champions sets, but will not be able to go to Goodwond and will stay healthy for a long time. All models will be returned to their original builders after the event.

I've got a feeling that Speed Champions isn't doing as well as Lego would have hoped over here in the Netherlands. The biggest toy chain (Intertoys) has them on sale now at 50% off the second set. And still they're not really flying off the shelves...

I've not been that tempted by them yet - at that sort of discount though I would definitely buy them.

Which set is the seemingly unpopular one? The race cars, with the garish schemes and a billion stickers look awesome to me, but they make the passenger super-cars look a little plain, in comparison. If I was a kid shopping Speed Champions with a limited budget, I'd more likely spend money on the cars in race livery.

Just a reminder: The McLaren Building contest ends June 1. If you think you have a great idea for the Woking outfit and also willing to be hospitalized after Goodwond, go for it. And hurry!

I've been working on an entry for the McLaren LEGO ReBrick Building Challenge, and man, it's hard. XAxles posed that question and added the great suggestion, "What's a McLaren for you? Once you have a clear answer, build that car."

To me, a McLaren has:

Rounded body, compound curves (yikes, how to suggest that with LEGO elements?),

Squinty headlights that echo the McLaren swoosh shape,

Cab-forward, mid-engined profile, with more body overhang on the front than on the rear,

Huge aero-scoop cutout on the side to feed and cool the mid-engine and turbos,

Variable-geometry spoiler.

The more I look at the Speed Champions P1, the more I like it, and think the LEGO designers did a good job with a difficult subject.

Interesting. At my store they can barely stay on the shelves - the P1 especially, but there have been times when all four of the individual cars have been sold out.

The local Lego Store here says the LaFerrari and P1 are moving at a very brisk pace. When both of those are off the shelf, the Italia sales start picking up. I think the 918 struggles a little because of the LBG color. If it was dark red, DBG, white or some kind of blue, it would sell a lot better in my opinion. The bigger sets are slower sellers, but they say the Porsche Finish Line is selling OK.

I have all of them, and the more I look at them and see my kids play with them, the more I like them (and I liked them quite a bit from the start).

I hope this line has been successful enough to get a second wave, there are so many possibilities here.

I bought the P1 and its great and I would buy any Lamborghini set they made in a heartbeat.

Just as long as its not more Ferrari or Porsche stuff, I will probably be happy :)

I agree, there are a lot of possibilities. Any Lamborghini, Audi R8, Corvette, any of the low volume super cars (Zonda, etc), Dodge Viper, Nissan GT-R, BMW M, Mercedes AMG, Ford GT. That's just street cars. They could get into more real racers, too. LeMans, WRC cars, DTM racers.

After a few hours, the McLaren Building Contest is gonna end, so now I advise everyone who has entries to go see your doctor NOW, or at least say "My body is ready for Goodwond".

Not a fan of German cars in general so I wouldn't buy any Audis or Mercs or BMWs (the possible exceptions to that would be the BMW M1 or any of the gull-wing-door Mercs

But all the other ideas on your list sound epic. If they do a Lamborghini, I hope its a spyder in yellow or orange, convertible lambos are cool :)

Jag and Aston have cars worthy of this theme too I recon,

I just got the Ferrrari Truck set and have been amazed by this video. Does anyone know what power functions parts I could buy to convert it like this? It doesn't look like an M motor or standard battery pack is in there, but I do see the PF receiver.

I managed to get the finish line set and the smaller porsche set. Is there a possibility of this theme continuing for a few years?
