PROlego Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 It would be better if it was made out of rubber, that way you could make different shapes. Quote
Paul Boratko Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I think Lego's logic behind the redesign of that part is that they expect people to press down on them to see the suspension work... I wonder if the original part ever made it past the 3D printed stage... I suppose this 42039 model is a prime example of why Lego doesn't want it's early pictures getting leaked out... Quote
Jim Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I think I'm in love with the Mining Truck The prelim of the 42039 seemed a bit more elegant, but I still like this version a lot. Looking forward to building it. The polar vehicle is quite special! The color schemes of the final versions do look better than the prelims. Quote
Cumulonimbus Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I suppose this 42039 model is a prime example of why Lego doesn't want it's early pictures getting leaked out... I was thinking the same thing, I assumed this was done to prevent copying by competitors, but this is a much more logical explanation. For us though, it is very interesting to puzzle the design process back together. Quote

And someone we all need more orange bricks  jim do you know if other sets are coming in the second semester? Quote
Jim Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 jim do you know if other sets are coming in the second semester? It's no secret that TLG has two waves of Technic sets per year, the 1H wave and the 2H wave. So there will be other sets coming (one of which will be the flagship). Quote
XAxles Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I actually really like the new headlights on the 42039, they look quite a lot like the Toyota TS040. I am rather unsure about the new rear end though, it just looks strange and out of proportion and doesn't fit with the modern LMP1 front end design. I'm on the fence about buying this model now... Maybe a modification could be made to the rear? Possibly because it isn't. Look at the Bentley Speed 8 and then 42039 and maybe you might get the back end. Quote

Anio Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I suppose this 42039 model is a prime example of why Lego doesn't want it's early pictures getting leaked out... Well, I do not need 42039 prelim to think that final version of 42039 is plain ugly. The thing with prelim pic is that we can say that the project had a very good start... And thus it makes the final model even more disappointing. Quote
Zerobricks Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 WTF happened to the 42039! Looks like someone chewed it up! Whats with all the orange stuff in the back of the 42032... Also lime wheels in 42037, Quote
Meatman Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Possibly because it isn't. Look at the Bentley Speed 8 and then 42039 and maybe you might get the back end. It does look more like a combination of the pictures that you posted, but it just doesn't look like it was done as good as it could have been. Quote
Wiseman_2 Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Hmm. Unless I am much mistaken, that single-cylinder engine on the Mining Truck appears to be chain driven, interestingly enough. Quote
aol000xw Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Since we got 42039 I guess there is not supercar for 2H. Mobile crane, front loader and excavator were recently done. Plane and Chopper too, and I guess Bulldozer can be discarded too. Unless they design something novel I guess some kind of truck. A garbage truck or cement mixer in 8258 scale. Volvo B Model is a dumper truck so a dumper companion is unlikely. But I'd like a big scale full RC fork lift. including a couple pallets loaded with barrels that would be very playable, I think it could be a good flagship. Quote

Agree, but instead of a plain forklift, this would be cool: Edited October 1, 2014 by imajor Quote

jantjeuh Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 So a bigger, motorized, RC version of 8416? Sign me up. Quote

It looks you are right. I just noticed there is no new piece on the 42031 roof just a pin axle connector with two axles in black colour which is great! Quote
legolijntje Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I believe there's a black version of this part in 42031. Nothing very special, but nice nonetheless You can see it was DBG in the preliminary image, but is black now in the newest images. EDIT: I just realized that the Artic truck has only 1 mini LA in the final model, but it had 2 in the preliminary model. Quote
aol000xw Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 (edited) I hate when they begging cutting corners like this and go from awesome to meh.(thinking of 42039 ) edit: Given the apparently nonsense with 42039, I wonder how the creative process go? How is it possible to make several prototypes and end up with a final model that is obviously worse in many aspects than what was apparently a final candidate.? Did they lower the part count to achieve a price target? IMHO 42035 is the best of this batch design wise Edited October 1, 2014 by aol000xw Quote
Meatman Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 The original 42039 looks like it was done by a completely different designer than this new official model. Quote
aol000xw Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Yeah the designer went on holidays and a scholarship holder finished the work. Quote

Yes, some kinda impressive forklift is also a good idea, maybe even with a log stacker. Its either that or a mining excavator (but now we already have 2 tracked models in the 1H) http://www.tekatrade.com/images/com_sobi2/clients/93_img.jpg I hate when they begging cutting corners like this and go from awesome to meh.(thinking of 42039 ) edit: Given the apparently nonsense with 42039, I wonder how the creative process go? IMHO 42035 is the best of this batch design wise Yes the mining truck looks awesome! anyone noticed that the cylinder seems to be driven by a chainlink? perhaps we will have a 1 cylinder chainlink driven go-kart as the alternate model here, or if they're more clever; take advantage of the actuator together with the chainlinks and we can have a fork lift (but maybe a little too short lifting distance..) Appie Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Since we got 42039 I guess there is not supercar for 2H. I doubt it is the last car for 2015. And while they probably won't be used for an "official Lego supercar" since they don't really fit the size for one, those Tumbler wheels have to be used on something besides the Tumbler? I doubt Lego made those just for 1 set. Quote

I vote for big forklift as well :-) Quote
