The tracks on 42042 definitely look to be dark bluish gray, same as in 8043. The exact main bluish colour I'm struggling with a bit though. I'm not sure if it's regular blue, or 41999 blue, but to me it looks almost like it's a bluish purple colour. The image is low resolution and ruined with jpeg artifact compression. The camera flash on the box doesn't help things either. There is a battery box and a motor (either an L or M motor, but possibly an L motor) and I see what looks like a small LA to activate the claws similar to 42006, via a shaft you turn manually. The orange part of the box that usually shows motors etc looks unfinished, as there is part of it blank.

I have done some colour correction, perspective corrections (so you get a direct, straight view of the box), sharpening of the image and some other trickery in photo shop and the main blue colour really does look dark blue to me. After the colour corrections both the crane and the Arocs look quite a lot more appealing. After correcting the box perspective the pneumatics look a tad longer. I'm slightly more convinced we'll be getting 3 completely new sizes of cylinder and double rear wheels. I can see now why TLG would not want our first look of these great sets to be that of these poor preliminary images because they really don't do the sets any justice. I'm still extremely glad to see them though :classic:.

I have been sampling pixels in photoshop and the more pixels of blue I sampled, the more they looked like 41999 blue. It is possible that the bluish purple colour could be coming from the shadows.

Now wouldn't that be sweet, but on the 7L closed cylinder (the one we have on the Unimog), there is roughly 6L between the hoses. And it looks like I can roughly count 6L distance between the two hoses on the elbow ram of the jib itself.

After completing a Google image search for other confidential Lego images, there were no boxes with flash, which leads me to believe that it could be genuine camera flash on a screen. Also the language on 42042 seems to be Hungarian (according to Google translate). 42042 Lánctalpas Daru, meaning 42042 Crawler Crane.

Thanks guys!! Again...I'm hoping looks amazing cos I love crawler cranes! 8 more days to go!!

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but the version of the crane that I've seen does not look that good, at least in terms of the boom. The boom sections are really primitive looking, and very inaccurate. The gantry is also fixed in place, which is odd for a modern crawler crane, and looks much too small. Both of these details are odd, as Lego had 8288 to go by, which was much better in both regards. I think the boom could have been loads better, especially if they introduced a long studless beam with alternating hole directions.

I made a replica in LDD, and you will see what I mean:

42042boom.jpg

Looks dark, boss crawler blue to me.

I actually fiddled with the saturation settings, and it doesn't look like dark blue, or regular blue, but some color in between, but such a color does not exist. I blame the hue settings and the lighting of the picture.

Note that the structure (hollow container) supplied in the model can be used to lenghten the main boom.

Actually, you have 2 options : either you use the section to play with IT, or you use it to have a bigger crane. In any case, this is not a B-model. It is just the A-model that can be slightly modified.

Speaking of B model, do you think that Lego would ever do a rope excavator? The only other things I can think of would be a pipe layer, a bulldozer looking thing with a boom on one side, like so:

The only other thing I can think of is a bucket wheel excavator, using the pieces from the grab as buckets.

Well spotted. Somehow I wasn't thinking of the obvious like an extension to the boom, but more like something the grab can pick up! Now that you mention it, that part in the grab looks exactly like one of the sections that Saberwing40k has drawn above. At least this gives us the option to increase the boom length if needed.

One part I'd love to see TLG create fairly soon would be a new design of a more solid, sturdy turntable. One that rotates freely, but at the same time has very little horizontal play in it, possibly with small ball bearings inside. I think that excavator and crane structures can often show how much these turntables are under pressure. And if TLG could incorporate rotating electrical connectors to feed 2 motors below, without the need for wires tangling through the turntable, or shafts and collars through the turntable, then that would be great. One could then use 2 motors with simpler gear trains below, with very little power loss to the tracks, no tangling of wires and full 360 degree rotation.

I won't be that disappointed as I don't really look at preliminary pics... every year people has high expectations and ruins their wait with silly "invisible" teasing pics.....I'm happy to wait for the model to be on the shelf and then decide if to buy it or not.

You guys are getting crazy with those pics....

Some observations now that a friendly soul have send me the pics :

Crawler crane is ordinary blue. The claw is manually closed/opened, but anything else would be very hard

Truck does not look to have dual rearwheels. Too bad the final stage of the outriggers are manual. Definitely new long pneumatics!

And it does look like TLG are calling it "V2.0" (which would be wrong)

The pneumatic actuators are pictured on the box, 2 long, 1 medium, 1 small. But the small one looks like it's rod has the same diameter as the others? Certainly looks metallic and the whole part looks to be 2 studs in diameter, not one. If so, that must be new and perhaps all of them are?

That could indeed mean they've been completely redone and seals might have been improved

Hmm, even the medium one looks longer than the standard 48mm and the small one looks like it's 48mm

There's some text below each part, looks like "small pump", "medium pump" and ?? Does TLG call them "pumps" on their sparepart site?

Last part of the crane arm looks new? New panel?

Cheers,

Ole

Any news from london?

Why london??? Also only 7 more days until we get to see the new LEGO Technic products, the press is allowed to see all products on January 27 and they'll share pictures and thoughts on their respective websites, blogs or whatever. Can't wait!

The floor plan for next weeks ToyFair :)

This has nothing to do with the conversation. Please stick to 2015 Set Discussion and Speculation. There's a forum completely devoted to events.

I'm sorry if I'm repeating questions, but are dual rears and suspension confirmed on the arocs?

Edit - Nvm, just saw one of the post above say that it doesn't. That's too bad :(

Nothing has been confirmed. We've only seen a tiny prelim image. Please stop asking these useless questions.
