1974 Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Almost 2800 pieces.i know it's guna b the biggest technic set by piece count, but isn't it getting close to the largest set ever made by lego or am I wrong there? Yes, very wrong. SW guys won't wake up unless it's +3k (and they'll still piss'n'moan) and the architecture guys .. well we normally don't even phone them unless it's +4k Quote
Ondra Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Oh, Ondra .. time for another beer! Yeah I open one too especially for that crane. Is interesting how that crane turned from relatively small looking set on preliminary picture to 1401 mammoth with 1meter long boom.Im sure it will be eyecatcher. Arocs sounds great, but I rather wait for better pics and info about functions or video.Preliminary photo doesnt impress me a lot. Quote
1974 Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Yeah I open one too especially for that crane. Cheers, mate Preliminary photo doesnt impress me a lot. Not me either, Colours seem 'off' Quote
Ondra Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Colour is last problem, that I have. For me is huge letdown cabin, it looks weird for licensed vehicle and gap between wheels and mudguards is huge, if there will be suspension I will take my words back. Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 I just came a cross a interesting thing on a toy store, seems we are getting parts packs again? I now feel old. http://mytoyshop.com.sg/lego-technic?page=2 Quote
1974 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Why so sure? Well, it's not featured on the box (could change, I know - but it's a rather big feature) and all wheels looks to be aligned Quote
D3K Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 I too am willing to bet it doesn't have suspension.. Would love to be proven wrong though! Haven't seen the pic yet, but from experience - both in regards to previous sets released by TLG, and building MOCs of my own - I highly doubt it'll be featured Quote
aminnich Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 I think we made this set sound too good before and now it is just your average set... Quote
1974 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Well, I think the crane arm is a new TLG high - and the best so far. The truck, no so much. The crawler crane? Bigger than before and good looking, features still be to seen That's all - goodnite, techheads Quote
davidmull Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 (edited) Well, I think the crane arm is a new TLG high - and the best so far. The truck, no so much. The crawler crane? Bigger than before and good looking, features still be to seen That's all - goodnite, techheads At last! From brickset Technic 42040 Fire Plane (£45, 578 pieces) - A white with red seaplane, maybe 30cm wingspan whose single propeller turns as it's pushed along the ground. It comes with trans blue 2x2 round bricks that can be ejected onto a fire below. 42042 Crawler Crane (£110, 1401 pieces) - a very large and impressive motorised crane which, refreshingly, is blue and not yellow. The boom must have been 1m long. 42043 Mercedes Benz Arocs 3245 (£170, 2793 pieces) - A stunning vehicle featuring power functions and pneumatics. The cab is white, the tipper grey. It has a pneumatically controlled red arm with an opening scoop at the end. The arm has a new rack housing at the end of it that solves the problem of it being too thick when brick built. It comes with a large motor, 4 pneumatic cylinders, a blue pump cylinder and 4 valve controls. There are three types of cylinder which might all be new. On the box they are labelled as 2/11, 1/11 and 1/5. The 2/11 is, presumably, 11 units long and 2 wide, the 1/11 was 1 unit wide and, well, you can guess the other one. The Mercedes logo is printed on a 2x2 boat stud. The alternative model, a flatbed truck, looks as good as the main one. This was easily the 'best in show' as far as I'm concerned. Thanks for info. I presume the 1 stud wide cylinder is wrong as the all look 2 wide in pictures. So 4 cylinders which means if it does tip it will be with la,s :( guys we might get no tipper here at all. Anyway still love it ether way. Oh and I bet it does have suspension it has to with those arch gaps. Any idea why we never get images from London fair? Edited January 21, 2015 by davidmull Quote
Paul Boratko Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 (edited) Any idea why we never get images from London fair? Lego doesn't allow pictures or video to be taken... Hopefully the plane has #3 connectors in red... I just came a cross a interesting thing on a toy store, seems we are getting parts packs again? I now feel old. http://mytoyshop.com...-technic?page=2 This would be so awesome if they had colored parts packs... And my ultimate wish... Panel/flex axle parts packs... Could you imagine a parts pack with one of every style panel and flex axle size in like 10 different colors..? Edited January 21, 2015 by Paul Boratko Quote
rollermonkey Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Well, it's not featured on the box (could change, I know - but it's a rather big feature) and all wheels looks to be aligned Perhaps, but the Arctic Truck looks like it has no steering on the box front. Quote
XAxles Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 1-meter boom? Wouldn't that flex? Unless you build it to have just a 0.5m boom and build the other section separately. Also interesting to find out is the B-model of 42042, as Huw didn't seem to see or hear anything about it. I'm already thinking bulldozer, but I'm also thinking bridge layer, or even tower crane. Or clawed thing on tracks. Quote

andythenorth Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 I would take Huw at his word. He's very credible. It's nice that a set makes someone happy. If you look in the comments on Brickset, already there are queues of people pointing out how disappointed they are. It must be really hard being a TLG designer, ruining so many people's lives every January by making toys. Quote
davidmull Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 I never liked crawler cranes even tough this one looks good. 42043 is the star of the show here :) Quote

Milan Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 (edited) It looks like Mercedes has suspension, kinda... Huw wrote this as a comment on TechnicBricks, hope it is okay to post here, if not I will edit. The pump cylinder looked much the same as the old ones from what I could tell from the box. It may well be a new size and if so would be a 1/5 in the new nomenclature. I'm not sure if the rack housing was used for the outriggers (of which there are two), it's possible. The four front wheels steer proportionately and the rear pair of axles seemed to be connected as a bogie, mounted in the centre. At least that's as much as I could tell when I lifted up the front to gauge its weight. So, not suspension per se but the body can be rocked side-to-side on them. OK, so the crawler lattice boom might not be 1m in length but it was certainly long and impressive. The fire plane is a single propeller driven sea plane with two floats, much like this one http://www.zenithair.com/stolch701/7-photo-floats06.html .It was predominately white with red accents and stickers. The ailerons moved and I suspect the tail flap did too but I didn't witness that. Size-wise I'd say it was about the same as 8836 Sky Ranger. Edited January 21, 2015 by Milan Quote
Cumulonimbus Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 I'm not sure if the rack housing was used for the outriggers (of which there are two), it's possible. As I suggested before, it would make sense to use this part for the outrigger function as well. Maybe it will be provided in two colours (red and grey/black)? The four front wheels steer proportionately and the rear pair of axles seemed to be connected as a bogie, mounted in the centre. That suspension setup at the rear would be nice, relatively simple to build, but effective in following bumps and dips while driving. Conor Hyland Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Thanks for info. I presume the 1 stud wide cylinder is wrong as the all look 2 wide in pictures. So 4 cylinders which means if it does tip it will be with la,s :( guys we might get no tipper here at all. I think all 4 cylinders look 2 studs wide and it has to be able to tip. I'm guessing using 2 large LAs, as it looks like we could have our 4 rams used up in the jib (although I can't see the one for lifting the jib). With licensed sets they have to be as accurate as they can to the original and they have to be able to tip in the real world. Quote
