XAxles Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I sure wish Lego would give us something in this series to talk about. Like Petronas Towers and BMW Building and Taliesin. Yes, we shall all buy those. Quote
rollermonkey Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 The Louvre was on display at NYTF... but we'd already seen it, so nobody even mentioned it. :) I didn't see any pictures of Flatiron from there, though... Did anyone else? Quote
Steve309 Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Not really big news. But the flatiron building is on the May 2015 lego calendar http://www.thebrickfan.com/lego-may-2015-store-calendar-promos-and-events/ Hopefully someone gets it early and puts up a review for it. Quote
rollermonkey Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Finally... I was wondering when we'd get a tidbit of information. Quote
Steve309 Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 Just built 21023 flatiron set. And it's a fun build. Some intresting techniques used. But my initial feelings from when images first surficed of how the scale is off still stands. The middle floors are "squished" together. But the bottom few and top few floors are the same sizes a the middle. They needed to add more middle floors to this lego model. And looking at it now. The crease right in front where it's supposed to be rounded does not look good at all. As someone who has them all this may be one of the worst sets. It's a competition between this and leaning tower of Pisa for which is worse. But that's my opinion. And I'm someone who favors towers. But I'm really excited for The Lourve Quote
rollermonkey Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 (edited) Finished this today, as well, and I agree with a lot of that. The set is 18 studs tall, but the actual building is 21 stories. They could have easily gone 3 studs taller and had a near-perfect 1 floor per stud scale, and that would have really fixed the middle section being too short. The most famous aspect of the building, the pointy end, looks terrible. Because of the 25* angle of the two sides, I'm not sure that it would be possible to do this round end properly in LEGO at any scale, but the method used here isn't it. Sometimes a LEGO Architecture recreation just isn't the right choice of subject, and this is one of those times. That said, it could be a great parts pack if you need LBG plates and angle brackets or trans-smoke tiles or tan grille tiles and 1x2 and 2x2 curved slopes, all are used in large quantity. The build is decent, if a bit repetitive. It's not the worst Architecture set of the line, (I say Trevi takes that crown, closely followed by the totally boring Burj Dubai) but it's miles from the best. Off the wall Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 Back from exile. I like this set. But, the criticism of the pointy end of the building is fair. I wish about once a year we'd see a large version of an architecture set released. Like what they did with the Sydney Opera House. Wouldn't a 3000 piece FLW house be great? Quote
rollermonkey Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 Any guesses for a Louvre release window? I'm thinking July for a limited release in France, like with Eiffel. Then August 1 for wide Europe and 1 September for the rest of the world... Quote
Off the wall Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 I was guessing September first for the USA. Does this set lend itself to expansion? From what I've seen, it's a slice (albeit a good one) of the actual Louvre. Quote

rollermonkey Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 Must not have been the Architecture page... Whoever's running that likes to pretend nobody has a clue what's coming. Quote
Off the wall Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 (edited) While not an active golfer, I do enjoy watching The Open from St Andrews. What a beautiful setting. Just noticing all of the structures surrounding the course. Wouldn't the beauty and history of the buildings at St Andrews be a great Lego architecture theme? And, the build wouldn't be too repetitive. Edited July 19, 2015 by Off the wall Quote
Steve309 Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 (edited) Not sure if lego teamed up with Hilton Paris Opera hotel or this is them selling a custom on their own. 2503 pieces €329 ( Euro) On sale until September 6th if I read that correctly. http://www.hothbricks.com/2015/08/lego-architecture-offrez-vous-lhotel-hilton-paris-opera/ Link is in French It says if you contact parisopera.info@hilton.com You can inquire about the set. Herky Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 nice tease Steve...if only they would sell that in stores...ah well, just a few more months and we can lament that 2016 brought us a set or two only for the year. I personally think this is the best line in all of Lego, but it just gets no play...the list of possibilities is so long there isn't enough server space, guess it just doesn't sell well Quote
Off the wall Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 (edited) Anyone know what this means.... Anyway, is the Paris Opera like a MOC that was created to serve Hilton Hotels as a promotional item? Edited August 14, 2015 by Off the wall Quote

Anyway, is the Paris Opera like a MOC that was created to serve Hilton Hotels as a promotional item? This is what says after translation with Google: The hotel currently receives until September 6, works of LEGO® Certified Professional Builder Belgian Dirk Denoyelle and this set is a smaller scale version of one of his many creations on display for the occasion. To offer this beautiful box will miss perhaps a day to your collection if you do not do this, you must write to the following email address: parisopera.info@hilton.com. If you like LEGO Architecture line but you just sets the "official", know that the Louvre 21024 set will be available from 1 September at 59.99 and that costs € 2016 for us at least four new standards that will make us travel Italy (21026 Venice), Germany (21027 Berlin), USA (21028 New York City) and Dubai (Burj Khalifa 21031). BlockLogo Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 (Challenging myself and doing this without a translator) The hotel is currently, and until next Sept 6, receiving (?) the works of Belgian LEGO certified professional builder Dirk Denoyelle, and this set is a down-scaled version of one of his numerous creations exhibited for this occasion. In order to offer you this beautiful box that may someday be missing from your collection if you don't, write to the following email (...) If you love the product range of LEGO Architecture but only indulge in the "official" sets, please be aware that the set 21024 Louvre will be available starting next Sept 1 at a price of 59.99 Euros and that 2016 has at least 4 new entries in store that will take us on travels to Italy (21026 Venice), Gerrmany (21027 Berlin), USA (21028 NYC) and Dubai (21031 Burj Khalifa) Quote
Off the wall Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Thanks for the translations! I'll pass on this due to cost and logistics. Besides, it appears to be a commissioned by Hilton MOC and not an official Lego set. So, my OCD completist mentality won't be tortured by not having it. But, it is a thing of beauty. Quote
Steve309 Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 (edited) I talked with someone in USA who got in contact with them ( I'm in Canada) Shipping to USA for this set is €158. Which is insanely high. And yea I'm the same. Different packaging and no name plate. So I'm ok with skipping this. Edited August 15, 2015 by Steve309 Quote
jluck Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 I think what is more interesting from this post is the comment that we will have 4 new sets in 2016! Any idea of what they may be? rollermonkey Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Not just that, but two skipped numbers? What about 21029 and 21030? Quote
