Sarah Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 I'm not liking the blinding "Flashes' on the pop star boxes that make it hard to see parts. *sigh* Quote
Dorayaki Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 (edited) The hotel is great as predicted. As for the rest of regular sets, the skate place idea is great and would be a good scene for CMF collectors to use. As for the popstar series, I can see it's both inspiring and attractive to young girls. However I don't think the dressing room is useful enough for town MOC FOLs. Among them, the tour bus is the best one for me. I feel like something is missing, and I find out that there are no other sidekicks in Livi's tour? The possible upcoming cartoon story is enough for us to know how the main Friends befriend with Livi, but we don't really have to see all of them in physical popstar sets. The lack of manager or supervisor makes it abit unrealistic. I wonder if this could mean a future licensed theme featuring an idol. Most licensed themes are actually the counterparts to LEGO's own original action themes, while the rest are cartoon and anime franchises. If this works, some other Disney's original drama like Hannah Montanna could get LEGO sets too? Offtopic, it's abit ironic that Livi isn't the actual first LEGO postar character, but Gwen. However her theme doesn't allow her to own at least a small stage to perform . Edited February 16, 2015 by Dorayaki Quote

Now you're right no manager.....some sleek bag who wants to hang around and pick up late teen girls offering them fame and fortune.......he has a bad hair piece as well. Now if there was a license extension.....well, lets hope for NO High School Musical ! Quote
Dorayaki Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Maybe Lord Business's hairpiece works for that :p. Speaking of hair, there's another color variation for the Ariel style in the backstage. Did Livi learn her taste from Agent Caila? Quote
danimarroquin Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Looking at a Brick Show video from NY Toy Fair that hotel is just the best Friend's set produced so far in the whole theme but I have an issue with the private jet.......the tail.......I can see this one ending up on Air Crash Investigations ! The planes looks terrible , Barely looks like a real private jet with a small tail , small elevators and still no doors for planes on the Lego world . There's nothing more iconic for a private jet to have the opening door that turns in to stairs ! The Lego team really needs to take a trip around the airport and look around how planes really are . It is like the designers ran out of design dollars towards the end of the plane. The rear calls for MODing. One of the large green planes a few years ago had a opening door if I recall. Most smaller planes don't come with doors. Egress is via the roof. Quote
Dorayaki Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 (edited) Borrowed from Brickset: It reminds me that the previous cartoon episode also showed a private jet, which the girls took to go to the jungle last year. Its pattern design is different so I think it wasn't the reference for this set. I assume that TLG put their most effort on Tour Bus,......... uh, I mean there are some possible restrictions? And I don't actually own any LEGO plane. Is any City plane compatible with minidolls? BTW, Amen for Jacob . Though Matthew had more clueless appearances in earlier sets, he has actually becomes Olivia's someone in the storyline so he seems to redeem himself. But it rather looks like that Matthew was a better replacement for Jacob? Edited February 17, 2015 by Dorayaki Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 That blasted tail on that jet.......who at Lego approved this set ? Now if you change the seating in a minifig plane to no studs seating then minidolls would fit okay......my guess anyway. Quote

Now if you change the seating in a minifig plane to no studs seating then minidolls would fit okay......my guess anyway. Seems they've designed a STOL airplane (which makes sense for a private plane and would help it land in less-than-large commercial airports). Short-take-off-landing (STOL) airplanes are very common and use the rear horizontal stabilizers to gain lift when they don't have long runways (acceleration for speed to assist in take-off). Here is an image/example of one: Photo: Ton Jochems Although these types of planes can certainly also land at standard airports; yet even most smaller FBOs have some sort of security (hence the aspects of the sets). This type of plane would certainly be used in Jungled countries with small landing fields. I'm sure Olivia can pilot it just fine. Remember, these sets must have playability too. Although we adults see "no door" in the model, the truth is it would be hard to place passengers through a 3-inch opening, and the roof removal for access makes the most sense. Quote

It's like they ran out of budget for the back of the plane , and it doesn't even come with a pilot . WTH Lego ! TLG needs to work on their airplanes design , and take a trip to the airport . Quote
Darth Punk Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 The back end of that plane reminds me of a cargo plane. The front nose looks great, then it goes down hill from there. Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 All that was needed to do by the designer was to use longer wedge plates......even if only by two studs on each side would look better. One hopes the design team reads what we say and think.......I think someone boo-boo'ed ! Quote
danimarroquin Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Probably leave 3 engines in the back of the plane kind of like a falcom , and design a new door for this type of size of planes would be a good idea . Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 I really wonder if this was their attempt at copying a Barbie private jet ? Two words......EPIC FAIL ! At least it can be modified to look right. Quote
danimarroquin Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 Wich Barbie plane ??? Hopefully better then this . Quote
just2good Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 So nobody has the official US price for the hotel, eh? Quote
Bricknblue Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 So nobody has the official US price for the hotel, eh? $129.99. I saw a blurry picture, but made out the 2. Quote
wilson3a10 Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 I really like some of the friends set because they can be alongside with the creator house set. Those features can be a nice addition to the houses. The problem is I would feel embarrassed when I purchase the friends set at the cashier. Quote

The first couple of times might be hard but you'll eventually feel comfortable and get used to it. That's my experience shopping for Friends. You can always order online and it comes in a plain shipping box. Quote
