August 29, 201410 yr While I don't really care about interiors, I hate minifigs. Hate. All of mine are dismembered and live in one gallon, plastic storage bags. Except for the Death Star. Those minifigs are okay. Edited August 29, 201410 yr by Off the wall

August 29, 201410 yr This topic is perfectly on time - I was just wondering if I should get the Town Hall or not :)

August 29, 201410 yr Yes, buy town hall. I think it's frequently underrated. As a mater of fact, I expanded it so that it's on a 64 wide base.
August 29, 201410 yr Author I would advice to buy this set. It is great set and will look so nice in your City project...
August 29, 201410 yr I actually really like this set. The height makes sense, but I'd want it to be a little shorter. I like the dark orange color for sure. I don't like that you can't open the front doors fully though. And as nice as the atrium is inside, it feels like a lot of wasted space that I could flesh out to put more rooms in there. I have an idea to rebuild mine into a different shape and not the usual 64 wide that a lot of people have done. I just need to actually order pieces for it. I already have blueprints drawn up. And Off the Wall - why don't you sell the minifigures. Recoup some costs. I know I could use some extras of the classic smiley people for my Modular layout.
August 29, 201410 yr Author Well, when you get the set you will love it . You will see many thoughts and advices as per their analysis after purchase. Best thing is if your friend has this set, go and check it...:) Edited August 29, 201410 yr by VintageLegoEra
August 29, 201410 yr And Off the Wall - why don't you sell the minifigures. Recoup some costs. I know I could use some extras of the classic smiley people for my Modular layout. Back in the day, like the late 90s to about 2008, I sold a lot on ebay. I think you can tell by my posts that I'm not really a 'people person'. I always included a lot of pictures in my auctions along with a money back guarantee where I would even pay the return shipping cost. Well, that wasn't enough for some people. So, I stopped selling. (FYI, I was selling vintage electronics). Now, I donate what I don't want/need to Goodwill industries. Or, with lego, simply give it away to kids. The minifigs are sort of like a bulk collection. They seem to be multiplying like inhabitants of some, well, never mind..... In building the 96 x 64 four story GE, I certainly wound up with a lot of left over minifigs. I'll have even more after my OCD is manifested by a fifth floor on the GE.

August 29, 201410 yr Do you have a link to some pictures of the GE? Sounds cool. Sorry, but I don't have the initiative to set up a photo sharing account. However, if someone sends me a message with an email address, I'm always happy to email a picture.
August 29, 201410 yr Author Guys...please dont go so far with this thread as this is a building thread...;-)
August 30, 201410 yr While I don't really care about interiors, I hate minifigs. Hate. All of mine are dismembered and live in one gallon, plastic storage bags. Except for the Death Star. Those minifigs are okay. I don't hate minifigs, but I'm not a big fan either. The ones in the City sets are especially dull. For Lego so advanced and detailed as the modular buildings, the minifigs also tends to give it a more childish look than I prefer. However, it is also what makes your street/town/city come alive and not just stay a ghost town. So I keep 'em. And the minifigs in the Death Star is really what makes that set :) Now, onto the Town Hall. I built this set a couple of days ago and I was overall positive to the result. It's a very straight forward and fast build. Nothing too advanced. The Roof section is what makes the set for me. Once built, the building looks pretty good, but it is not until you place it together with the rest of the modulars that it starts to really shine. The bad things: My set was missing two pieces; modified 1x2 bricks in a color I didn't have spares for. It was the first modular set I bought that had missing parts. very annoying! My second issue was with the 6x24 plates used for the floors, which are too long. There's a slight dislocation for each stud, which results in the floor being 1-2 mm wider than the top of the module beneath. This can be seen in the picture below. It also makes the 6x24 plates bend when adding all the 2x10 plates in the same direction. The floor is straightend out when the walls are being buit, but for the roof section, the problem persists. I had to rearrange some of the smaller plates so that they are placed in the opposite direction of the large plates in order to aviod having a concave roof. Has anyone else experienced the same issue with the 6x24 plates? Oops, sorry for hijacking your thread, VintageLegoEra. I should maybe have waited until you had finished your build... :P Edited August 30, 201410 yr by bjorn77
August 30, 201410 yr I would advice to buy this set. It is great set and will look so nice in your City project... It's never appealed to me - I am just considering buying it as it is a great part's pack - and I would love to turn it into modular train station :)
August 30, 201410 yr Has anyone else experienced the same issue with the 6x24 plates? Ditto. Am tempted to sand down the sides to get the plates level.
September 2, 201410 yr Author Welcome back again! 1st Floor: I can tell, this floor has many pieces and took me sometime to finish it, but a very nice structure and decoration. i LOVE IT! Here Starting to lining up the foundation. lovely design * Did you notice something abnormal???....Well, if you see 2 of these big plates are Blueish Grey instead of Light Grey....so, Manufacture Error?? Yes (Please let me know if anyone has same Error) * The interior designs for me are cool * The Cashier Desk look nice and simple * The announcement Chamber/court,,mmmm kinda below average, just for that stage..but looks nice * The Elevator, this is the best and new idea to see in any Lego Sets. Very impressive! * Back View, Simple and Great look Further into the building: * The Entrance Door is Waoo...very nice and the best parts is you build so you feel the joy...But i wished if it was opening 90 degrees, but this not an issue :) * Top View, all the Rooms are Ready and arranged * These Posts are amazing. For first before i un-box the set, i thought these post are ready ( 1 Piece ), and while opening the set, i was searching for these posts and could not find then i though: ohh nooo,,again a missing parts?...then just went through the manual and see you have to build them...waoooo what an amazing structure :) * Lovely Look. Isnt ? * The Emblem and the Croson give a nice shiny look and the do fit nicely in the building.. And.....Here is the 1st Floor Done * Extra Parts , Useful for making Rags and matt Ok Guys,,,CHeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeers Hope You enjoyed this part and please stay tuned for the coming parts. If you have any comments for this Floor, please throw it away : what u like/ not like,...etc Cheers Edited September 2, 201410 yr by VintageLegoEra

I should maybe have waited until you had finished your build... :P It is ok buddy...:-). As long as it is not changing the subject and make it far away from rest photos...;-) This is very strange about the plate. Mine is fine in lenght. Probably LEGO made few paets with some minor error and packed it in some sets... As for bent plates, I noticed some in my some sets which are annoying... Nice pics of this really nice set! It deserves more than it gets in fact!! Thanks buddy Edited September 2, 201410 yr by VintageLegoEra
September 3, 201410 yr Author 2nd Floor: Bag 2 * Love the Sections and the parts used to build these level is just from simple normal parts. For first, you will think they are off some unique parts but they turned out to be Awesome! * Nice Look but the Balcony is too narrow and looks not realistic for a minifig to stand there! 2nd Floor Done! And attached to 1st Floor: Remarks:- - Has nice partitions - Building these desks, chairs from normal parts in a clever way turns the looks to be so professional. - The Mayor's Torso is very nice...:) - Normal Level with only secretary and mayor's office Edited September 3, 201410 yr by VintageLegoEra
September 5, 201410 yr Despite all the moaning and negativity I read towards the town hall I really like the look of it. It's definitely on my wish list. It's not likely to be discontinued anytime soon is it ? If read PS and GE were most likely to go soon - if that's the case I'll get those first. Also love these threads - especially from someone who is on the verge of starting a modular addiction !
