Ranger_Elegost Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Who misses the Harry Potter Lego? In fact who misses Harry Potter in general, just missing movies coming out every two years or so and feeling the heart wrenching experience when you came out of the movie theatre :O Comment if you miss it.... Zilcho Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 I miss Harry potter! It was a great theme with great figures and great sets. There was something in the theme for everyone Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 I dearly miss it too, especially since there was still potential for new characters and settings I was so glad when we got an excellent replacement shortly after its demise in the form of LOTR and the Hobbit, but now those two are over as well Too bad there's no prominent fantasy IP left that could take over - and even if there was, you simply can't top HP and Middle-Earth... Cy_Bored1337 Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 i think it will return when fantastic beast and where to find them is released Quote
CptPJs Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 I was coming out my dark ages when it was ending :( I'd love to see a few sets rereleased but it won't happen. Quote
TomKraut Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 I don't really 'miss' it, because I was in my dark ages when it was an active theme. However, I very much regret not being a FOL during that time, because I really like Harry Potter but the sets are so expensive now that I won't be starting to collect them. Quote
Jared Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Meh, honestly, can't say that I do. The sets were pretty much the same every year (slightly skewed in terms of pieces, but same for the most part). Though they had fantastic tan and sand-green pieces! I do, however, really, really, really miss the books. I wonder if LEGO will do sets from that new movie coming out, "Fantastic Creatures and Where to Find them".... Quote
TheLegoDr Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 2010 HP LEGO is what brought me out of my dark ages. If that says anything. The movies were fun. I liked the story. I'd love to see more sets/figures. They might renew a license when the new spin off comes out, but I don't know how they could do that justice. I don't know how they are going to do the movie at all. Has anyone read the book? It is literally an encyclopedia on mythical creatures. Quote
CptPJs Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 It's going to be about the wizard who wrote the book, and the adventures he went on to collect all the information on different creatures, I think. Quote
Cy_Bored1337 Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 It's going to be about the wizard who wrote the book, and the adventures he went on to collect all the information on different creatures, I think. Sounds promising Quote
Ultron Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 I miss them so badly I really hope they come back when Fantastic beasts come out Quote
Pulp Detective Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Well I don't since I'm not a particular huge HP fan after all. Quote
Dorayaki Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Pretty much like the LotR case right now. I did wish to see each HP film tied with a LEGO wave, but unfortunately they didn't. The final wave was great, but they're mostly iconic places rather than doing something with later stories or characters. Quote
Godtshep Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 I often hear people talking about HP Lego in toy shop isles and the theme was rather popular so I'm sure TLG would seize any opportunity to make new sets based off the films (we need remakes of all of the 2005 sets!) Quote
Geertos13 Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 I sure do! I'd give anything for the theme to come back. Heck, I'm still hoping someone's going to make something epic on LEGO Ideas, I might try and make something myself, even though I highly doubt LEGO would let it pass through. The thing I'm saddest about is probably the lack of Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw torsos, the rest, I'd much rather MOC around, but figures, yeah, that's a little thing that bothers me, Cho Chang, Mundungus, Percy, Fleur Delacour, and even important people like Slughorn, Kingsley or Tonks. But yes, I miss the Harry Potter lines, the excitement and discovery of new stuff. Quote
Robianco Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 (edited) Newt Scamander is the author of 'Magical Beasts...' Rowling is writing the screenplays and they're set long before Harry was even conceived so no crossover with existing characters (probably). I've picked up all the 2010 sets except Diagon Alley in the last couple of years and have been able to do so around the original RRP. I'd love them to revisit some sets with characters such as Sirius, Mad Eye and Umbridge. If the series was still going imagine how good an 'Order' set would be with Sirius, Shacklebolt and Tonks? Robert8 Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 I miss the theme but I doubt TLG would bring it back unless there is a reboot of the movies, which could happen in 20 or 30 years Quote
hollisbrick Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 I never even got a set, darn dark ages :( Would be great to see them out again yet I don't feel like they will any time soon... Quote
ResIpsaLoquitur Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 I do, particularly since my daughter is now into Harry Potter and wasn't a few years ago when the theme went away. We JUST got in on the tail end of things. The two HP polybags were still hanging around Target a few years ago, so I grabbed them as gifts for my wife, who was a HP fan--they eventually went to our kid. The mini Hogwarts Express is still available in a number of Five Below stores around here. And you can still get the two DK HP books--the Visual Dictionary and the Character Encyclopedia--which both come with a Harry figure. I did find the last Hogwarts set on clearance a year ago, so we snagged that and my kid got it for Christmas. Regrettably, I haven't found any others. I still keep hoping that I'll find Hagrid's Hut or the Dark Forest somewhere out there in the wild, but no luck so far. Quote
The Real Walkers Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 I miss it a lot. The only hope we do have is that, possibly, when the new films come out, we get a few Harry Potter sets. Just like LOTR with The Hobbit. We can dream... Quote
fred67 Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 I often hear people talking about HP Lego in toy shop isles and the theme was rather popular so I'm sure TLG would seize any opportunity to make new sets based off the films (we need remakes of all of the 2005 sets!) I honestly think sales were waning at that point, as they stopped making sets altogether. One claim was that the books and movies got darker, and thus not suitable for LEGO... but that's a pile of horse poop; if it was selling and it was only fantasy violence, TLG would have kept selling it. They released the last wave when interest was getting renewed for the grand finale of the series. I managed to get all of the last wave sets, as well as a few of the earlier sets... not sure I would buy more, even ones I missed. Is is remarkable to me, though, that they can screw up Hogwart's Express so many times. The "Ruby" modification to the Emerald Knight is a much better approximation, if you're so inclined. I miss the theme but I doubt TLG would bring it back unless there is a reboot of the movies, which could happen in 20 or 30 years I wouldn't hold anything past a Hollywood remake these days, but like LOTR, I think the scale was so enormous that it's not likely to be seen again. After all, nobody has tried to redo Ben Hur, Gone with the Wind, or other "golden era" epics. And yet... Angelina Jolie is remaking Cleopatra, so you never know! Quote

Interesting point but I wouldn't consider Harry Potter at the same level of "golden era" movies Anyway, they could easily re-write it as a trilogy or tetralogy, since the movies/books have a lot of filler (especially 1-4) Quote
fred67 Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Funny because they actually are remaking Ben Hur !!! I stand corrected!!! Interesting point but I wouldn't consider Harry Potter at the same level of "golden era" movies Anyway, they could easily re-write it as a trilogy or tetralogy, since the movies/books have a lot of filler (especially 1-4) I was thinking more in terms of the magnitude of all 8 movies together, the same way I'd consider the magnitude of all of the extended LOTR movies together. You wouldn't want them to remake just ONE of them, would you? Even if compressed to three movies with the "filler" removed, it'd still be a huge undertaking to actually try to compete with what's already been done. Which is actually sad, IMO. I was disappointed by a lot of what they chose to keep in the movies, and what they chose to leave out. JK Rowling had a great story, and interesting characters, but it turns out she was (IMO) a fairly bad writer and did a terrible job "consulting" for the movies, if she actually did anything at all. The way the last few books blew up in size and "filler" because she insisted on not listening to her editor (and had the upper hand at that point) is case in point.... but as consultant, she didn't even let the director know what was important to keep in. I feel somewhat the same about the LOTR (and don't get me started on The Hobbit) movies... so good, done on a level not seen since that golden era... and yet not quite perfect, and it's a shame because it will be a LONG time, if ever, that someone tries to remake them and do it "right." I mean, I'm not one of those people that wants a page by page recreation on screen, but there were some fundamentals missing, and a bit too much embellishment. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 @fred67: As far as I know, JKR did consult the filmmakers; she told them not to omit Kreacher in OotF since that would have created a giant plothole and she told Alan Rickman pretty early on what she intended to do with Snape's character later in the series And while I miss the franchise, I absolutely detest the idea of remakes I don't really like most remakes in the first place, but the ones we get are usually pretty open end stories with a lot of space for different interpretations. Book adaptions such as HP or LOTR are a lot more strict in that way - you can still change things up a bit (which all adaptions do and need to do) but the main story and characters remain the same. It'd be pointless beyond believe, just like the 1998 shot-by-shot remake of Psycho with Vince Vaughn as Norman Bates Quote
