Heroica RPG - Quest#111: No Fear of the Setting Sun

[Khorne]

The party sets out, trekking across the vast sea of grass that are the northern steppes. Their voyage started off on a positive note as nothing strange occurred to the party. The second part of the journey was harder as the foursome of heroes made their way deeper into the grasslands. Icy winds battered the party, slightly denting their morale.

Their hope sunk somewhat deeper when they reached the speculative campsite and only remnants of habitation remained. The camp had been packed up and moved to another location, only litter being left behind.

Picture coming this weekend!

After quickly investigating the grounds, the party could discern tracks leaving the location. Most of the tracks were headed east. The eastern tracks consisted mainly out of hooves and grass that had been crushed by the wheels of wagons. This was most likely the direction the camp had taken off in.

The other tracks were heading in a northern direction. There were some tracks of hooves sunk in the mood, but their were also a lot of regular Human foottracks.

What will the party do? Where do they head next?

"Well, this is a predicament. If they are heading North they may get a ship and we could lose them for ever. Perhaps we head North a bit to see what we find, and then go East to maybe cut them off or go parallel to their direction."

Lynne stands in the harsh, desolate settlement, brushing her jet black hair out of her white face.

"North sounds good to me as well, although I have to question something: how would they get a boast from a the mountains? Is there a steep drop at the end of this wilderness, or a gradual decline..? Eithe rway, North is the shorter way to follow the footsteps."

For the momeny, the party heads north.

"Why would they take the missionary man with them on horseback? I'd think they'd want to take him with the rest of the camp." Polly follows her cheeks red from the biting wind.

"I'm not sure I quite get your question, m'lady", the Paladin shrugged and looked confused, "The mountains are in the east and I guess they slowly rise up from the steppes."

"Polly makes a good point here, you guys", Orell stated as he hung in the back, following the party's footsteps as they made way north. "If I had to guess, I'd say he's probably where the camp is. We'll see what we find at the end of these tracks, though."

QM Note: I'll roll for effects and give you the full update tomorrow. I hate it when I get home and it's too dark already to make photos. I definitely need new lights for my photo setup.

The party left the remnants of the settlement behin and trekked north. The sharp icy wind had laid down, greatly easing the travel, the party suffers no penalties. After some time of walking, the party spotted life on the horizon. As they got closer, they could make out that there was but one Human amongst the other group. Worse, he was bound and shackled in chains, dragged behind a horse. The party had stumbled upon a marauding band of Cyclopses, who had taken a straggling Polkung man from the camp as their prisoner.

Slowly, the party tried to sneak up to the strangers, but the wind was not in their favor and their scent got picked up by the chief Cyclops' horse. Wary of their hostile environs, the gang of Cyclopses were quick to assume battle positions and the Heroes lost the element of surprise.

It is as if though the party starts this battle truly blessed by higher powers. Leofwein goes into a frenzy and manages to both damage and poison all of the opponents. The Cyclops Brute retaliates and also swings around his huge blade. However, he does so in an uncontrolled manner and also cuts his own allies. The effects of the Brute's attack are then negated by Lynne pulling off a miracle, healing the party.

All enemies still stand, but are heavily damaged.

Leofwein continues his Frenzy and hack away at the opponents, leaving the Brute badly bloodied and an inch away from death. The other Cyclopses are still standing strong.

The Brute goes down, but at a heavy cost for the heroes. The heavily-bleeding Cyclops swings around his mighty cleaver one last time, one last act of defiance, hurting all those participating in the battle. Careless, he is even responsible for his own death. Only Polly manages to hit her target, but the heavily armored chieftain simply shrugs after being hit by her bolt of Dark energy. Lynne gets stepped by the Spearman, which brings her on the verge of being knocked out.

The battle continues and two enemies are still facing a badly hurt party.

OoC: Rhozz should be at 19 HP, 30-([WP:3 + Level 3]*2 for darkness elemental - SP) = 21 and then -1 for Poison and -1 from the Brute's attack. Also the usual convention is attacks that don't specifically state they ignore SP or Row, are handled normally, hence anyone in the back row would take 2 damage from the brute and SP would also be taken into account. I'm going to assume you meant to include the ignores row part?

Polly shirks back from the whirling blade of the brute, grasping her wounded side. "Lynne, it hurts." Polly breathing heavily launches another Darkness spell at Rhozz from the back row.

I was going to say that Polly's modifier was negated by the fact she attacked from the back row, but as I was typing I remembered magic does full damage from the back row . So, you're right. I'll fix it .

Right again in this case, I did forget to check for SP and Row. Like the first case, I'll fix it. They don't ignore SP and Row, I would've added otherwise, as is the convention like you said. .

Lynne brushes her hand across her face, wiping off a trail of black blood, wondering if anyone noticed the odd anamoly. She hadn't been so throughly injured since...

"Hang on guys, hang on, hang on... I just have to patch myself up, real quick..."

Lynne heals herself from the back row.
