Heroica RPG - Quest#111: No Fear of the Setting Sun

[Endgame]

Lynne breaths in the dense fog, leaning on the bannister of the ship. A soft wind gently blows her, the pale woman having to constantly brush hair out of her eyes with one hand while gripping onto the railing with another. In a way, it reminded her of her trip to Eubric. She thought the fog was soothing, but knew that it could cause issues to the crewmen...

"Uh, guys? Nothing is wrong, right?"

[Khorne]

The Hinckwell Guard lowered his looking glass and answered Lynne, his eyes constantly trying to keep a look at his surroundings.

"Heh, could be nothing. You know, just a little fog. It happens, Neron and Neredice's will, I guess", he shrugged, but then grew more restless, closed in to Lynne and then softly added, "...could also be her, though..."

"Nonsense, marine! That's a fable. A hoax! Hornswoggle, swindle, flimflam, a fraud! I'm a Hinckwell, I won't let myself be bamboozled by some seaman's story."

[Endgame]

"...Surely... You don't really think there is some beast monster skulking around Eubric, right?"

[Capt.JohnPaul]

"Best we keep going. Prepare for anything. We can't stop now. Be there any defensive mechanisms on this ship?"

[Khorne]

"Naught but tales of mariners, milady. Nothing to be afraid of!"

"But she's real! The Red Dragon. It is said she hunts the seas in search of those who've wronged her. A ship of undead, which strikes from out of the unseen. Fog and misthorns are their omens."

"That's enough, Guardsman, shut it. Fairytales, nothing more. The Bonapartes keep the Crystalline Sea free of all threat, that's what we pay all those hefty fees for!"

"Best we keep going. Prepare for anything. We can't stop now. Be there any defensive mechanisms on this ship?"

"Defensive mechanisms? Ha! This is a trading cog, a merchant ship. Our defensive mechanisms are our iron resolve, our nerves of steel and the edges of our blades. No son, you are the support. Hey, cheer up, that's what I hired you for in the first place!"

"Aye, but it'd maketh the job easier. Lynne, I hope your healing abilities are up to snuff."

"My healing powers should be good enough. What makes you doubt them?

Captain, I personally don't believe the stroy, but... Who knows in this world." Lynne gigles softly. "I think a raise would be needed if we did meet it."

"You're already being paid double than what I pay my other men. I hardly think is raise is necessary. Like you said, it's just a story and simple stories alone don't justify a raise in my eyes."

No further update today, guys. The coming week should be business as usual again and I'll be able to update more frequently .

Polly pulled Mr. Sanders close,

"Well this is a first Mr. Sanders, I don't think even daddy ever traveled on a boat before."

Polly made her way over to the gaurdsman, she had difficulty keeping her balance and once or twice fell over, but she eventually gets to her goal.

"So has anyone ever seeeeeeeen this Red Dragon?"

[Khorne]

"Someone's bound to have seen this Red Dragon at a certain point? Where would all the stories come from otherwise? People say she targets merchants ships mostly, because of a great craving for gold and jewels. By the gods, I wish I got paid more."

The fog grew even thicker and then, like the Guardsman had stated before, deep sounds of blasting horns could be heard. Seemingly out of nowhere, a ship appeared and before the Hinckwells could do anything to repel the attackers, most of them had already lost their lives. Apparently, the Red Dragon was no mere story at all.

PREPARE FOR BATTLE !

QM Note: I'll add in the enemies and everything in this port tommorrow. Right now, I'm just too dog tired to do so in a decent way without making mistakes. I just didn't want to let another day pass without any decent update from my side, so now you at least know the Red Dragon isn't a myth and a battle is coming . [Endgame]

Lynne's heart beats as not only the fog, but the massive ship, begins to come towards them.

"It... It is real! My first battle in heroica, against a legend..." Lynne mutters.

"Ahem, um, anyway. You in the back there, red head! Why are you assaulting this ship? Mere piracy?"

[Capt.JohnPaul]

"Aye! Heroes! Let's rip off their heads and spit on their necks! Scoundrels, off with thy head!"

Polly held her bear tight as the ship plowed it's way through the fog. The little girl shivered a little as the cool air surrounded them. At the sight of the ship and raving marauders the child started to shake and promptly threw herself behind some of the barrels of cargo.

[Endgame]

Lynne backs up, eyes still locked on the crew of the Red Dragon, and backs up slowly. She approaches the hiding Polly, and tries her best to awaken some sort of maternal instinct.

"Polly... Polly. It's gonna be okay. Be strong - for Mr. Sanders, alright?"

"They, they wouldn't hurt Mr. Sanders would they?"

[Endgame]

"I have a feeling they'll try, Polly. I can't lie to you about that... But... We can stop them, alright?"

[Khorne]

"Ahem, um, anyway. You in the back there, red head! Why are you assaulting this ship? Mere piracy?"

Surprisingly, even over the sounds of clashing swords and the turmoil of battle, the pirate captain heard Lynne. She let out a childish giggle, which was quite creepy, considering the murderous profession of the Red Dragon.

"I seek to return what was taken from me. I want vengeance for the wrongs done to me! I fight for gold, because I love how it shines. I sail the seas and fight to redeem my debt to Njordon. Mere piracy? Girl, there's some much more to it for me!"

The red-headed pirate let out a roar, which was only vaguely human. It was rough and unsettling. She grinned widely and then plunged into combat.

Ooc: I'll post battle order and actions later today. Maybe you all can input ideas for strategy... I was thinking Orel first, then me, Polly, and then Lynne.

"I have a feeling they'll try, Polly. I can't lie to you about that... But... We can stop them, alright?"

Polly looked up at Lynne as she cowered behind the barrels, the small girl hugged her bear tightly, eyes closed and nodded at Lynne's words. Coming out from behind the cargo but still standing back, Polly drew her small dagger and pointed it at the bearded man, her eyes taking on a slight purple glow. The child let her bear fall to her side as a shadow of darkness seemed to elongate from the stuffed toy and surge towards Arn the Drowned.

"No one, touches Mr. Sanders."

[Capt.JohnPaul]

"What hath thee wrought?!!! Attack!" Leofwein attacks the Red Dragon, front row. Orel attacks the Draugr Beserker, front row.

The party of new Heroes starts off on a bad foot and only Lynne manages to lay a finger on the opponents. With a blast of simmering Light, she takes out the draugr Berserker before he could even participate in the fight. The others are less lucky, Leofwein misses his attack and Polly encourages the fallen priest of Njordon to summon a new Drowned Servant to the fight. Both Orel and Leofwein get shanked by the undead Spearman.

The battle continues. Five enemies stand against four heroes.
