This is pure speculation but what if Doctor Who is the new theme being announced at New York Comic Con 2014. There are a few points showing towards this.

1. If the rumors of the Top Gear theme are true it means Lego must have acquired a licence with BBC.

2. A few month`s ago The Lego Idea`s site started allowing Doctor Who set`s again.

3. Minecraft was also an Idea`s project and it became a full theme.

4. Lego said that this will be a new theme.

5. Comic Con would be the perfect place to announce a theme like Doctor Who especially with it being a very popular Sci-Fi tv show with many of the fans going there.

Again this is pure speculation.

I'm thinking they'll announce a Jurassic Park D2C set, which will be released earlier than the Jurassic World sets.

That, or the announcement of the return of Bionicle.

I'm guessing that it will be a Jurassic Park set or something to do with Jurassic World. As much as I'd want it to be Doctor Who, I doubt it will be, sadly (though that doesn't mean it won't be a new ideas set, hopefully).

I can see them revealing the set there, but I don't think that's the "new theme". Then again, the quote wasn't directly from LEGO. And, keep in mind at NYCC 2012, they revealed four different sets- the Shellraiser (with an announcement for the TMNT theme), the Daily Bugle, TDKR set, and the Goblin King set (though this was leaked on a post beforehand).

Then again, they just showed one set at NYCC 2011- the Batcave, I believe (I could be wrong, I was still in my dark ages at the time).

Its most likely Jurassic World, although the announcement of a theme that has not already been unofficially announced would be better. Hopefully they reveal a number of sets from a number of lines.

We still don't know that the super car theme is a top gear theme, in fact it's not likely with the set list. We will be getting a Ferrari truck, probably similar to the old ones, and those have nothing to do with top gear. I think if they do a top gear theme, it will be more centered around the actual show, not just super cars.

I just can't see it. If Character Building, which is part of the company that does a lot of other Doctor Who toys, lost the license... I have to wonder why. Why would the BBC drop them if they have a relationship in other fields? Two things come to mind...

1. Poor Sales

2. They couldn't get a deal with LEGO before, so they settled for CB, but now they can get LEGO. I seriously doubt this one, though. But I hope I'm wrong. This would be an awesome theme!

Frankly though, it probably is Jurassic World. Didn't someone recently see next years retailer catalog and tell us it's contents? If Doctor Who was coming, wouldn't he have seen it?

It has to be Jurassic World. We already know from last weeks leaks that the new themes next year are Supercars, Elves, Bionicle and JW. Announcing Supercars at a Comic convention doesn't make much sense. Looking at the backlash from LotR fans towards the 'girls theme' Elves it would be a disaster if Lego announced it at NYCC. Bionicle would be possible, but is not exactly a 'new' theme. JW is the best fit for the occasion.

Besides, why would Lego ever create a Doctor Who theme? There are no playset possibilities here apart from the Tardis. A one off Ideas set yes, like BTTF and Ghostbusters. But no complete theme.

Cheers

I doubt it would be for Jurassic World since it doesn't make sense for LEGO to announce anything about the movie, let alone show anything, before even the movie studio does.

My bet is Minecraft.

I could see with the success of both the Ecto-1 and BTTF Delorean, that maybe LEGO could be annoucing a classic movie vehicle theme? Maybe that's just wishful thinking though.

I doubt it's Dr. Who. Fans of the show tend to be older and I don't really see the appeal for young kids unless Dr. Who is some kinda hot property for kids in Europe.

As much as I'd like it Doctor Who it's unlikely. CB are already doing sets for Doctor Who. It has to be JW. A member has already seen JW sets for next year.

I would like for it to be Doctor Who, but I'm not sure a full line is viable. I see Doctor Who as an Ideas set like BTTF or Ghostbusters.

Jurassic Park/World feels too early (and I'm not sure what Lego could show).

Since Lego is really good at keeping secrets, it could be something completely out of no where.

Oct 9 is the day it starts, who knows what will leak before then, but I have to agree with everyone that it is likely JW to kickoff promos with the movie, will be interesting to see what comes out of it though

Nobody here thinks it could be the new elves theme?

If they do that, no Lego representative will get out of there alive!

A Comic convention must be flooded with LotR fans. Imagine TLG announcing to a bunch of LotR nerds (no disrespect meant, I see myself as a nerd) "Hey, there will be a new Lego theme. It's about elves. It's aimed at girls aged 5-12 and features minidolls." A bloodbath would ensue!

I know there is no way I'm lucky enough that it would be a Doctor Who theme, The most likely is Jurassic world, and I've been gone awhile so maybe I've missed something, but a Top Gear line  love the show, and I would need a James May minifigure, but what could they do, incorporate a racers type theme?

Character Building actually lost the license. So if another building toy brand wanted to pick it up, they should have little to no problem doing so.

Honestly, the more I think about it, the less I think it'll happen. Doctor Who is a gigantic franchise. But not one that is terribly well known. It's beloved by fans, but no one else has even heard of it. I just think that if LEGO did do a Doctor Who line, it'd be a repeat of Lord of the Rings. I think we all know what happened THERE (and if you don't, check out that 100+ page thread of "no! It can't be over! Here's what I want: -insert same list over and over again here-" and then the "yeah, it's done." It's depressing, it really is). In fact, it might be even WORSE since Doctor Who is much less well known, and has much more to cover. I can think of ways that LEGO could satisfy everyone, but business issues may get in the way.

The only hope we have for the new theme being DW is the whole Top Gear thing... But I wonder why LEGO directly told people they could put DW on Ideas if they were going after the license. That would pretty much kill any potential projects, of so I would think...

It may be too early for Jurassic World, but they aren't showing any sets, they're just announcing the new theme. So there shouldn't be any spoilers there.

I've got hope for an Ideas set. I'm pretty sure that'll happen, but I doubt we'd get a full theme...
