Kai NRG Posted September 2, 2014 Author Posted September 2, 2014 Woah, definitely a unique entery here! Very creative and I must admit a pretty little build and creature! Nicely detailed and composed. Makes me wonder what the caterpillar would look like! Thanks! Now that is a good point... I wouldn't want one crawling around in my garden, that's for sure! I didn't mean your personality, just the creatures. The eyes and colors, etc really make this look like a live creature. That was supposed to be a compliment, but may not have come across that way! Oh yeah, I understood it! I just thought it was kind of ironic, really! Great personality and very inventive design to give the wings an organic, flowing aesthetic. It looks pretty poseable. How poseable is it? Well, I can easily bend the wings (I can even make the top wings go up and the bottom ones go down but that looks pretty bizarre!), and the eyes of course swivel. The antenae are easy to move but don't really look right in other positions! And the little feet things rotate back and forth. And the head can go up and down a little, but not much. Thanks! Quote
Mike S Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Great idea! And excellent build as well! Quote
Gabe Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Ah, i love this one! Very inventive use of the lavender, and i really like the design of the saddle too. The windswept rider is perfect too. The first shot with the base is a great study of motion, although it would have looked even better if you had tilted the butterfly on the trans-clear support. (using the hinge brick 1x2 complete assembly works well i find) The base looks great btw, nice little waterfall. The repeating round ends of those bamboo stalks are a bit distracting on the sides though - i wonder how you could break up or mask that regularity? UoP +1 for both claims, nicely done! Quote

I was afraid you'd see the hinge brick too much, I was able to tilt it downwards with a clip piece, but yeah, a little sideways would have been cool. You're right about the bamboo rounds, though I think they aren't as obvious IRL, but I did notice them and couldn't think of a way to break it up! Quote
soccerkid6 Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Cute butterfly, that wing design works perfectly here Love the waterfall and rockwork as well Quote
mrcp6d Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Very nice. That technique really lends itself to insect wings. Colors are great too! Quote
Kai NRG Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 Cute butterfly, that wing design works perfectly here Love the waterfall and rockwork as well Thanks SK! One of these days I'll have to go for a really big waterfall... Very nice. That technique really lends itself to insect wings. Colors are great too! Thanks! Yes, it's a great technique! Very cool, I love your use of color! Thanks Torgar! Quote
Thomas of Tortuga Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Excellent work on the butterfly's wings, as well as the saddle. I really like the trans red in there. One thing I would change on the base is if you're going to do that style, to try to cover up the black more, and make it look more like one giant blob of shrubbery. Quote

I could pretty easily get rid of the black altogether, that might look pretty good, I should try something like it one of these days! Quote
