MassEditor Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 (edited) Note: I know this is a day past the deadline so if it's really too late to join I understand! The Darklands are known and feared for the foul abominations which roam these lands, both in the wild and in the captivity of Nocturnian warlords. Perhaps none however invoke more terror than the black wyverns of the Rakarth Mountains. Their numbers are not known but the black wyverns have long been the horror of the surrounding lowlands, where they go to feed on anything unlucky enough to be caught in the open. The black wyverns are twisted cousins of the noble beasts seen rarely in Avalonia. Because of their size and ferocity, black wyverns have often been the targets of enterprising warlords who wish to use the beasts in battle. This endeavor, of course, carries tremendous danger and has resulted in the deaths of many would-be captors. Black wyverns are not often seen in the front ranks, where they are still vulnerable to enemy arrows and ballista, but instead fly high above to provide commanders with an aerial view of the battlefield. Nocturnian warlords also find the black wyverns useful for interior policing and instilling fear in the border towns of rival commanders. Black wyverns are extremely powerful beasts and even a bite from their venomous maw can cause death to larger creatures. They are often fitted with simple plates of iron or steel armor to enhance their survivability. Main shot of Senurhem and his armored wyvern: A few other angles: About this MOC: I've been so busy last month I didn't have time to pick up a brick - that is, until yesterday when I remembered the Mount Up challenge deadline. So here I am, a day late hoping y'all will show me some mercy and still let me enter! I started and finished this yesterday but too late to get some pics so I had to wait til the morning. In any case this is based a lot on a fell beast built for a Lotr MOC. I built a couple years back. Hope you enjoy and of course any feedback is welcome! Edited September 1, 2014 by MassEditor Quote
Gideon Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Nocturnus seems to have saved some of their best entries to the very last minute, excellent creature! My favorite part is the mouth, scary rows of teeth! Quote

Scaevola Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Nice mount, I really like the head (all the teeth ). Quote
Hammerhand Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Looks ferocious! The tail is pretty cool, and I like the big mouth full of teeth! One thing though, I think there's a three picture limit for the Mount Up challenge, so you might want to check up on that. Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Damn, nice Wyvern! I love the posing! Quote
Yzalirk Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 That is just amazing, I'm speechless. I love the teeth on that beauty! Quote

I don't usually mean to build things that scare people's girlfriends, but in this case I'll take it as an extreme compliment! Another creepy entry.. Well done ME;) Thanks dude! Nice mount, I really like the head (all the teeth ). Thanks Scaevola! The head is definitely my favorite part of the critter. Looks ferocious! The tail is pretty cool, and I like the big mouth full of teeth! One thing though, I think there's a three picture limit for the Mount Up challenge, so you might want to check up on that. Thanks Hammerhand, and thanks for pointing that out! Fixed now! Damn, nice Wyvern! I love the posing! Thanks LV That is just amazing, I'm speechless. I love the teeth on that beauty! TheUtilityBelt Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Scary! Good, very good. This has been a great challenge and I'm sad it's over. Quote
robuko Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Keep this hell beast out of Kaliphlin! The head and tail are fabulous, I can't really make out the body details that week. Love the base too! Quote
MassEditor Posted September 2, 2014 Author Posted September 2, 2014 Love those teeth! Scary! Good, very good. This has been a great challenge and I'm sad it's over. Great beastie. One of my favorites. Thanks again! Keep this hell beast out of Kaliphlin! The head and tail are fabulous, I can't really make out the body details that week. Love the base too! Thanks a lot robuko! I wouldn't worry about seeing one of these in Kaliphlin, there's too much sand in the food! I want to get a pic of the body, especially since I really worked to get the right look. Unfortunately the wings ended up covering just about all of it, and it admittedly looks kinda goofy without wings. I'll post a pic from the rear later which might give a better idea of the body design. Quote
soccerkid6 Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Easy to tell that this beasty is from Nocturnus One of the most fearsome mounts, I'd say. The head looks great and I like the wings. A picture showing just the wyvern would be nice Quote
mrcp6d Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Mmmmm, this one's nice! Do you have any shots of the beastie stretched out? Quote

Thanks SK and mrcp6d, glad you guys liked it! I will try to post a pic of this critter off the base and all spread out, but I have to admit I built this without even the slightest bit of "playability" in mind. That is, it's not very posable and is actually built to fit on the base just like it is. Also, the wings move very little and are solely meant to look folded in like above. I don't think it'll have the same effect pictured all spread out, but since you guys asked I will try to deliver! Awesome ME, I love the teeth! Thanks T! Quote
