Governor Mister Phes Posted March 23, 2005 Author Governor Posted March 23, 2005 TLC is now saying to you, as a customer: "if you want to buy a set, and you cannot find it in your local shop, then please visit Lego.com and order it there. if you want to buy a set via Ebay for 165$ instead of 65$ with us, then that's not smart, but it's your choice." that's a good marketing strategy. it will even increase cost efficiency of the lego.com. the only thing TLC needs to do now is to use the lego shops as a storage for lego.com. Ah yes, but this somewhat contradicts your earlier statement... If its not available on Lego.com anymore, then it can't increase the Lego.com's cost efficiency! For that particular set anyway! However the post in its entirity raised some very good points, so thanks for taking the time to write it. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted March 23, 2005 Author Governor Posted March 23, 2005 i've just tried to find the barracuda legend on s&h Belgium and it's no longer available. it's no longer available at s&h US either, so it seems. so these prices aren't that surprising. you should see the prices for the first Star wars Falcon! that's just the way it is... >-| And another point I've over looked is; something that is still in demand whilst out of production obviously makes it more valuable. snefroe Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 here's another funny story i found on belug.be a couple of guys bought all sorts of goods from internet shops with fake credit card numbers. DVD's, hifi, clothes, whatever you can think off, including Lego from Lego.com. they bought bricks and sets for a total amount of 25000 euro!! in fact, they were caught thanks to TLC. the company thought that it was a little bit weird to get orders for the same shipping address, but at the same time, all these orders were paid with different credit cards, as if one person had more than a dozen credit cards. And of caurse, they never saw any payement. So they told the police in Belgium and the guys were arrested. Wow!! Lego for 25000 euro :P http://www.nieuwsblad.be/Article/Detail.as...icleID=G00DJK29 Quote
snefroe Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 and oh yes... it seems "Dreamland" has a pick a brick, for the moment. it's not a real pick a brick, it's a huge box with hundreds of different pieces (torsos, plates, technic bricks, HP stuff,...) in it and you have to select the pieces you want. these pieces are very often left overs... so if you're living next to Dreamland, better check it out asap, 'cause most interesting pieces will be gone in a matter of just a few days... ImperialJohn Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 Wow!! Lego for 25000 euro A normal months spendings. What is so fantastic about that. *sick* :oo It would be nice to get that kind of shipment :) Just once :D Quote
snefroe Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 i'll just use this topic for this message, since it's not important enough to set up an entirely different topic: i went to Aachen today and found a "Pick a brick" in Teddy & Co. usually these PABs are so and so... a lot of useless parts and some really great parts... This time, the PAB was fantastic! "2 x 4" bricks in all colors you want; technic bricks 1 x 10;12;14;16 ; headgear; brown seats; radar dishs 2 x 2; 3 x 3;... the bags are a bit expensive, tho: 6.99euro another PAB in "Dreamland" still puzzles me. i went to the shop yesterday, and the boxes were still there, but all closed. so i asked an employee to open one. he said that only people from TLC were allowed to do that and they only come on specific days... weird, especially, because other stores don't care about that and open the boxes in any case... If I went to such a store I'd be looking for yellow and white castle walls, arches, slopes, cell doors, to start with. Next it would be cannons, row boats with oars and those antenna that flags are attached to. And to finish it would be original Pirate theme related mini-figures and flags. In other words all the parts that aren't in abundance even on websites like BrickLink. Quote
snefroe Posted March 31, 2005 Posted March 31, 2005 you're right! these evaluations are always subjective. the boxes are in many cases over stock... no cannons or boats, no castle walls and cell doors either... i did find antennas with flags and pirate flags in the past, but not this time... i found slopes, but you would really have to look for it... i sometimes meet people there (all adults, btw) and they mostly look for technic bricks (because they're expensive via TLC/bricklink) and traditional bricks... that's why "fantastic"... Its a pitty there wasn't more of it to aid those who wish to create their own designs and not buy multiple copies of the existing sets. Quote
