2maxwell Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 (edited) I'm not a member of GoH (I just look at most of the MOCs and I saw this) so I understand if my input isnt welcome, but I wanted to mention that some of the other subforums (like pirates) use different banners depending on the time of day. Would you guys be open to something like that? That would allow each guild to have its own banner, removing the difficulty of finding one background or image to represent a pretty diverse world. Alfadas Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Well it is a good idea, but then most members won't see everything. But if there are 4 banners (1 for every guild), changing every hour, that would be cool. Quote

Pirates is the only forum where the banner changes with the time of the day. There are currently no plans to replicate this for other forums (it took almost 1 year to develop and test the pirate skin). All our tech resources are occupied for the foreseeable future on another high priority project. Quote
Wedge09 Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Really interesting contest, I give it a try for sure! Quote

I wonder what that is :D :D Quote
SarahJoy Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 This is great! Quick question: Is there a hi-resolution or (preferably) vector-based logo file that we can work with? You may want to add another rule: Designers must have permission to use all the images they include in the banner. This includes permission from builders (and photographers, if separate), and permission to use any images you find on the web. Quote
Emma Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 I was curious, what exactly are the guild sigils? I'm not sure if there is anything official - but I've always associate the guild sigils with ZCerberus' shield thing-y that he oft watermarks his GOH builds with (Mitgardia=Bear, Kaliphlin=Lion, Nocturnus=Snake, Avalonia=Dragon) Quote
mccoyed Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 IIRC there are no official guild sigils. Just colors. I think Z simply chose stuff that fit well with the particular Guilds. Quote
ZCerberus Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 To be fair, that is Ecclesiastes banner. I think those sigils, while not official, are pretty representative. I've also seen a unicorn/horse for Avalonia and a bull, skull and bat for Nocturnus. I also see NO reason why one can't make an Avalonian banner and a Nocturnian banner for example. You can have two entries per the rules. It might not get the popular votes if it heavily favors one guild, but who knows, maybe there will be enough banners for each guild to feature each one at a different time! Quote
mccoyed Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 To be fair, that is Ecclesiastes banner. I think those sigils, while not official, are pretty representative. Right! I remember us talking about that. And I agree that they're super representative. In fact, if we had a good source for stickers and decals I'd think there could be a push to make it more official. But alas! Quote
Rolli Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 A while back (almost a year ago ) I designed this little thing for the Wonders of Historica line: You see, you don't necessarily need the sigils, shields or whatnot. In this case the colors totally do the job.. Quote
Gunman Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Nice one there Rolli. Here is my 1st entry: Next to each other: Quote
Hammerhand Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I really like that one Gunman, great idea with the posing! The only thing is that using the Conquistador for Avalonia seems a bit odd, what with there being Varlyrio and all. Maybe more of a "knight" would fit better? Quote
Gunman Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 For avalonia imo it feets every kind of "knight". Dont have to be so specific like similarities with the Venice style Varlyrio as its an inactive guild. I had a proper silver avalonian knight helmet but I wanted to be able to see all minifig's faces. and thanks a lot guys Quote
TheLegoDr Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Thanks for the input. I assumed the colors were more important than the sigil, but I was curious as to what represents what. I saw someone use the black falcon crest in the north, so that is what brought it up. Quote
Tomsche Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I`m not entering this as I said, but I like Gunman`s concept. However, maybe it might be an intresting theorem to replace the four characters with actual ones from the Collectible Minifig range. With the MMO popping up officially in a month, expect an influx of lego fans over the whole guidl and those miniatures ARE recognisable to almost every collector as there is always something for someone in every Series. I would suggest for example the Viking Woman, Heroic Knight, Genie and Cyclops for the four guilds, giving new members an immediate idea what every guild is inhabited by in a rough speaking way... (And I just sprang an idea for a future moc with that line right now...) Quote
Kayne Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 (edited) So, here is my entry to the Banner Design Contest. I hope no one minds (particularly ZCerberus, Gabe, Ecclesiastes and DeGothia), but I did download photos from your Flickr to get your sigfigs Photoshopped for this banner! If that disqulaifies me, I understand but I thought it would be great to have some of the iconic sigfigs represented here for the banner. I also used ZC's stream for the GoH shield. And, I do know that is not sigfig ZC, but he fits Nocturnus well. Thanks! Edited October 14, 2014 by Kayne Quote
Rolli Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Dang! Thanks for the reminder, Kayne! I still have to put something together.. Quote
Slegengr Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 (edited) Here is my entry for the GoH Banner Design: See my later post to view the updated banners for entries Too many details would be lost when I tried to incorporate the Eurobricks name and slogan, as well as anything pertaining to GoH sigils or symbols. If I should add them, let me know before the deadline so that I can try to incorporate them. I have also created a topic containing the source images used: GoH Banner Design Source images are also all on my Flickr stream which is linked to through the images and in my signature, if anyone is interested in viewing them. Edit: Updated post to make this one a prototype. Final banners are in my later post incorporating a less-crowded composition of minifigures. Thanks for looking! Gideon Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Here is my entry for the GoH Banner Design: Great entry! It looks a bit to me as if the EB logo to the left is slightly damaged by resizing? Or is it that "pixely" to begin with? Quote
Slegengr Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Great entry! It looks a bit to me as if the EB logo to the left is slightly damaged by resizing? Or is it that "pixely" to begin with? The source image I used is the one at the start of this thread. It was pixely to begin with, but I may try to adjust that using color gradients. Thanks for the feedback! Quote
Mr Greeble Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Man, I wish I had heard about this sooner! Great job Slegengr. Quote
ZCerberus Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Man, I wish I had heard about this sooner! Great job Slegengr. *shrug* If you design a great banner post deadline we may still be compelled to use it someday. Quote
