JDL1967 Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 I have almost finish the build of the crane. I have seen the pics of Vassel GREAT BUILD!! Also can have use of some of your pictures. Now i now how to connect al the cable's from the motors, lights ect. I have made a vieuw little changes. On the back the lights and the front I mounted an axle for the steel hook. Whem i am ready i will post some pics of my build of the Grove 6400 Crane. Gr. JDL 1967 Quote

gerger Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 For example page 15 step 7. There's no callout which shows that you have to add 2 outriggers. (like step 8 on the same page) edit: It's called "Add assembled image to parent page" in Lpub. While Alex is working hard in creating instruction at a perfect way (and thanks a lot), I tried to mess around with LPub "add assembled image to parent page". It turns out that the assembled image only appear at the page after the assembled model. I have no idea how to create a assembled image as a preview before the model assembly. Here's is an example of what I mean. Quote
afol1969 Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Hi gerger, I still didn't have tried the "add assembled image" command, I've just finished to step the CAD file. And I've created the mechanical/electrical scheme: So now I'll now go on to organize the instructions in LPUB - and build the model. But one question: Is it necessary to take V2 receivers? I've only one of them. And I already must buy a second servo motor and a few other parts.... Greetings Alex Quote
gerger Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 But one question: Is it necessary to take V2 receivers? I've only one of them. And I already must buy a second servo motor and a few other parts.... The main purpose of V2 receiver is to maximize the driving functions from 3 XL motors as well as the outrigger lifting power. I think you can use just one V2 receiver for drive and outrigger Up/Down function; and use one V1 receiver for steering and outrigger Left/Right extension. Or one SBrick to rule them all :) Quote
chubays Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 (edited) Hello! As I understand, here are 2 versions of wheelbase and 1 or 2 boom versions? Can you give all of them to me in one post? (ldd and so on files) I want to try some modifications that are in my head (mind). I am new to constructing lego using programs... But I hope my improvements will be good and usefull Thanks in advance!!! Edited January 24, 2015 by chubays Quote
Jan Smed Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Alex/afol69: I have finally got some more time to test with the Firgelli actuator. There is no doubt that one standard geared actuator can't lift the boom. I did mount one alternative geared actuator and it can lift the boom ad that should give the result that 2 standard geared should also be able to do it. However when I have demonstrated the crane you could hear that the actuator was really on work so now I have tested with 2 alternative geared actuators and it sounds a lot better. For me I will keep it with 2 alternative geared actuators. Then I better get back to the plans for LEGO World in Copenhagen. Quote

I think a standart actuator will do the job. But where I can buy one outside from Canada. I don't want to buy by paying 50€ tax again. I've found this shop: http://www.robotshop.com/eu/en/l12-linear-actuator-100mm-ev3.html It seems to deliver from France, is that the shop where you've bought the standart actuator? And how did you mount it on the boom, do you have pictures or even an LFX file? I'm still on work to modify the superstructure, with a deep mount point as blakbird has shown it some post before. Greetings Alex Quote
Jan Smed Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 (edited) Hi Alex, I did purchase my second standard actuator from France but it was out of stock at that time and I needed the crane to be ready before LEGO World in Copenhagen. To be on the safe side I ordered 2 with the alternative gearbox from Canada. They actually arrived before the one from France and they had been so kind to put in 2 extra gearboxes so I can change on my standard ones if needed. When 1 alternative geared can lift the boom it should mean that 2 standard ones can do it also but to be on the safe side and not crash my gearbox I prefer to use 2 alternative geared. Karle Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 (edited) I have been following, with great interest, what has been happening to the GMK 6400 model sense I received a 42009 kit for Christmas. I am going to upgrade my 42009 to the full "ultimate" version and then add the new boom. The resulting model, by the way, looks like the Liebherr 1100-5.2. From there I was going to build the 6400 with the 42009 style cab, making it a fairly good model of a Liebherr 1300-6.2 or 1350-6.1. Now you talented gentleman have come up with the Ultimate GMK 6400 in what appears to be just a few weeks, leaving me with new decisions to make. I have several questions that I hope one of you can answer. Did anyone ever look into adding differentials to the drive shaft between drive modules to compensate for the different wheel RPM's while tuning? A single 3D printed cylinder was tested, I believe, what has happened to that project? Thanks to all of you for your good work. Edited January 26, 2015 by Karle Quote
gerger Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 (edited) Did anyone ever look into adding differentials to the drive shaft between drive modules to compensate for the different wheel RPM's while tuning? I did before and it doesn't work well. During the optimization process, I tested a setup with double XL motors with 1:3 gearing ratio at the front drive module and added a differentials between the front and middle drive module. The driving power is more than enough for front module but rather than compensating the different wheel RPMs while turning, the differentials at drive shaft kick in without delivering much power to middle or rear sections. The result is more like a 4 wheels drive at the front with 8 spinning dumpy wheels at the back. I also tested with limited slip differentials (LSD) by adding a few DIY bushes into the bevel gears. It slightly improved the turning for one or two second, and the middle and rear drive just dropped as usual when LSD kick in, resulting in similar effect as above. Rygar Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Hi everybody! I am pretty new to this community. This Grove GMK Crane is simply superb, thanks to Gerger, Afol1969 and Blackbird for their precious work. Sorry for my questions but: what are the most recent instructions to download? I have the 42009 set. Can I ask you where I can find the list of the "remaining parts" (with the quantities and codes) to make the "upgrade" to this gorgeous model? Thanks in advice! Quote
ancestral Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Considering that i have a second 42009 sitting in box, is there an updated list just for missing parts? Quote

Once you have it, you can extract the parts list from Rebrickable in Brickstock format, then you can subtract the 42009 parts list and see what's left. That's how I did it. Quote

Rygar Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Thank you very much. I have installed it and set to "private user" (I hope it's the correct setting). I've insert the 42009 code and now I see all the parts. This is the first step. Thanks again. Now I would like to ask: is there the list of Grove GMK6400 in Rebricable, like this (http://rebrickable.com/sets/42009-1/mobile-crane-mk-ii-construction-2013#parts_list)so I can extract all the codes of the remaining parts? You can import the .mpd that you can download from Alex BrickSafe directly into BrickStock. Or you can import the .mpd into Rebrickable as Private MOC and then export to .bsx Good luck! Quote
JDL1967 Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 HELP HELP!! Hello, I really need some help from the experts. I cant find any instructions how to place the cable's from the, motors, lights and receivers to the battery-box. before i put the cable in a nice order with ti-rips, i must sure that all the connections are made in the right configuration. It is the last phase of my build of the Grove GMK 6400 mobile crane. I hope that there is someone ho can and will help me with this because i cant see the tree's threw the Forrest so to speak. I hope that i get some help. Best Regards JDL1967 Quote

Or you can import the .mpd into Rebrickable as Private MOC and then export to .bsx That's an option, but there's to notice that the file contains many bufferexchanges/ghosts, will mean, an import will create many parts in double count. If you want to make an import, please send me PM, and I send you the clean file from which I created the part lists in the instructions. Hello, I really need some help from the experts. I already heard that some people seems to have problems where to place the cable connections. I didn't have any problems although I only had gergers' CAD file and blakbirds' instruction draft without any notes. But I've made some notes in my instructions, aren't they clear enough? If it's necessary to make the cable drawings with LSynth, so I'm very sorry, I haven't enough experience to create proper synthesis. Greetings Alex Quote
JDL1967 Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 The cabin with the boom is ready, but with the under-carrier i still havend found the right cable connections. I call it a day and look at it AGAIN tomorrow after work. If there are any suggestions please tell me so i can finish they crane finally. I have gut power on all the motors, but the driving isend working on all axles and the studs wont come down and are making a cryding noise. Quote

afol1969 Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 (edited) Next instructions: gerger's MK3 carrier without suspension As I still wait for the ordered parts, I haven't built it. So it's just a quick'n dirty instruction draft. An update will follow as soon as I have built it and controlled all steps. I must say that gerger has made a perfect work in function and design, all part belongs to the defined place to make sense. Especially the LSynth drawing for the electrical wires is very very good  Greetings Alex Edited July 27, 2015 by afol1969 Quote
