One showing the carrier next to the original 42009 boom, one assembled with an extended 42009 boom, and the final two with the proper boom and OEM counterweight.

The expensive counterweights I did not buy and I used a bottle of water instead, close to 500 gr. I also did not like the jerky servo steering and replaced it with an M-motor (underneath the fake V8), geared down extensively to make sure it could turn 4 of the axles.

Just wanted you to say that I have just finished building the version with suspension! Its stunning, works really great with the RC Unit!

Thanks bonox, didnt know that option from rebrickable. Only thing is, cant select the import csv option while all the other links work. What am i doing wrong? Working with safari on an iPad

I've made this monster crane with a few changes. The wheels and steering aren't motorized and it's not IR controlled. I've made a custom box with 6 toggle switches and I've used a old sub D cable to power the crane. Instead of 2 L12 actuators I used a single L16. It's a beast of technic model, perhaps even to big. The outriggers are way to weak to push the crane up and the crane needs a lot of counter weight so that is stil a work in progress. But I had lots of fun with it and I'm going to keep improving it until I'm satisfied. Thanks to everybody who helped create this, you are all insane... but the kind of insane I like ;-)

After reading all the thread I have a few questions: is there a PDF for v2? On Bricksafe I fond only a delta file from v1 to v2 and an instructions file that seems (from the name) v1.2

And a delta file for inventory from v2 to v3?

I am building the crane with instructions v1.2 and when building the cabin with the 2 IR receivers behind it I have a lot of problems leading all the wires so they fit in the cabin. Does anyone have tips or pics to help me.

Just finished building the GMK6400, well actually about 98% finished, but wanted to share an alternative approach to all the lego purists, which is to make your own lego actuator. I didn't even bother with using 2 standard lego actuators because the resulting boom angle looks only slightly better than 45 degrees. At the moment, the firgelli 100mm actuators are sold out. So, in lieu of ordering Efferman's 3D printed actuator I thought it would be simpler to build one out of lego.

I got the idea that this is indeed possible seeing Shineyu's massive mobile crane use a lego gear rack based linear actuator. So I made a smaller one for the GMK6400 using basically the same gear rack design. (I think another approach is to use a string based telescoping linear actuator) It may not look as pretty or realistic as going with other linear actuators but I'm definitely happy with the nearly vertical boom angle which can be achieved as well as the fact that it works well.

The actuator is driven by an L motor. My first attempt was to use the superstructure from GMK6400_1.2 which has the L motor mounted in the rear with all the other boom related motors. I could not make this work because transferring the torque between two 6589 (Technic, Gear 12 Tooth Bevel) gears coupled with a 87407 (Technic, Gear 20 Tooth Bevel with Pin Hole) inside a 87408 (Technic, Pin Connector Toggle Joint Smooth Double with Axle and Pin Holes) caused the gears to skip. So my second approach was to mount the L motor directly inline with the linear actuator (gear rack) axis, making the actuator look more bulky and uglier. At first it didn't work either because the 4716 (Technic Gear Worm Screw) would skip on the gear rack. Fortunately using two worm gears is enough to handle the weight of raising the boom. The end-result is a linear actuator that is quite bulky, and maybe not the prettiest, but one that is 100% lego, and which can raise the boom up to a near vertical angle!

Excellent alternative! I think we saw something similar in Shineyu's crane.

He wrote about this.

If anyone is interested I could make instructions of the linear actuator. There are some minor modifications to the MKIII version of the superstructure as well as the boom attachment points.

Since some people have been asking for an additional parts list needed from the base 42009, I added the GMK 6400 MK III parts list onto rebrickable http://rebrickable.c...00-mobile-crane . I did this by exporting the parts list from the GMK6400-MK3_Firgelli.mpd and then manually adding the powerfunctions.
