lenken1 Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Here is a wonderful model of the space shuttle Discovery built by Ed Diment currently for sale on ebay.. Check it out.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEGO-Scale-model-1-38-NASA-Space-Shuttle-Discovery-Ed-Diment-Art-Sculpture-/191314837551?pt=UK_art_Sculpture_GL&hash=item2c8b40c02f Quote
klinton Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 It's moments like this when one realizes their place in the economic strata, eh? Hahaha. That would be an amazing piece to own (seriously: just imagine that in your den or office! It's all class, yet still 'fun'), but it's much to large a price tag to even begin to try and justify spending on LEGO. :p Quote
lenken1 Posted September 6, 2014 Author Posted September 6, 2014 (edited) Hi, many thanks for the reply citizen. Yes it's absolutely breathtaking I wish I could afford it too! Here is the breakdown: Lego pieces (1000's) + Man hours (100's) + Talent (infinite) + Delivery = £7500 o.n.o Edited September 6, 2014 by lenken1 Quote
Andy D Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 (edited) That is an amazing model, however I am not sure I understand why someone would contribute the display space much less money for a model such as this that they did not make. I wish Ed all the luck in selling this, but just not sure who or why someone would want it or buy it. Andy D Edited September 6, 2014 by Andy D Quote

It's a lovely sculpture that I can imagine would interest a lot of people: fans of space themes, LEGO, whimsy...or any combination thereof. It's really just a matter of finding someone with enough disposable income to whom this piece appeals. It'd by no means be a casual purchase. This would be a buy akin to furnishing or artwork. It's a matter of realizing that it would be absolutely perfect in that one corner of your den, and psyche yourself to the point where you 'need' to have it. Hahaha. Quote

I could see The Plastic Brick Museum buying something like this. Quote
CorneliusMurdock Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 I could see The Plastic Brick Museum buying something like this. And making the artist's visit (it says he'll deliver it personally) a big event. They would definitely have the space to display it. I was able to visit the museum this summer. Some really good stuff there already. This isn't a Licensed subject. Moving to Special Themes… now. Quote
BrickG Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Why is the first photo photoshoped? :P Quote
rollermonkey Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 ...and Ed will bring it to you himself? That's an uncommon shipping method. Quote
CorneliusMurdock Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 ...and Ed will bring it to you himself? That's an uncommon shipping method. That's what the auction says. Apparently, it's unglued. He probably and rightly expects that there'll be some damage while getting it to the owner and wants to be available to repair it once it makes it to its destination. That's real service. Quote
HomerJSimpson Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Wow! That thing is HUGE! Although I don't know who would want to spend close to $10,000 on a space shuttle. Not that who wouldn't want to, but who would be able to afford it. Quote
madharlequin Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 That thing is massive! The ebay description is great "also includes a scale model of the Hubble Telescope"! Quote
grum64 Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 OMflippin'G! That's humungous and has a price tag to match! Fantastic work though. Quote
wlderdude Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 The details are pretty impressive. It's not just layers of bricks, but very well thought out and executed. Quote
Spencer_R Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 Hmm, just noticed the crew ingress/egress hatch appears to be on the wrong side of the model. Quote
