Hey everyone!

We had such great fun with the 4 wide car vs. 6 wide car poll I thought I'd take it a step farther and see what people think about their town structure scale.

Here are two of the best examples I can come up with to illustrate the difference:

Classic:

Cafe Corner:

Personally, I prefer the new modular scale with the great details and 4 walls. I have wanted LEGO to go in this direction for a long time and am happy to see them releasing these wonderfully detailed sets. I do like the classic style too. For me, it's nostalgic. But I want my town to be as realistic as possible, so I've chosen the new cafe corner modular style.

Discuss on!

More complex Cafe Corner style for me! *y*

more realistic=better
greater realism = better model

I own it and I love it.

i voted new style... in terms of scale ONLY (i think that was the question of your poll).

personally, i don't like that this new style (that we are calling modular ???) is built using techniques that i consider "OUT OF SYSTEM."

my ideal city line would be on the scale of CC, but with the techniques of SYSTEM.

my full view on this is here and here.

if i ever move on from WW MOCing, the community will get a chance to see what i am envisioning... the concept is actually quite different than either SYSTEM, or CC... im not so narrow minded that the question is either old SYSTEM style or new CC style building, i have actually realized a scale and technique that is different from either... and is how i would do city, properly.

unfortunately, i don't see this poll as being as black-and-white as the "4 vs. 6 studded cars" poll.

------------------------------------------------

BTW, hinkely... its interesting that you consider the CC as being 4 sided... i see it as only 2 sided, as opposed to the SYSTEM style of 3 ;-) interesting.

i used to love the classic town when i was a child, but as an AFOL now the modular style is great, and tbh if they had that back then i wouldnt have been complaining, kids need bigger/harder to make sets nowadays anyway, lets be honest lego cant face video games with 1989 style sets, but this new style might realy interest the kids, and im sure it interest all the AFOLs out there, thumbs up all the way *y*

Right, which is why I left the option for "there's room for both in my heart." I was going to put in option for "I have my own style" but I didn't. I thought that might complicate things. *wacko*

Oh, do it! I love your MOCs. You have such a great style with your WW MOCs. I would love to see what you do with City!

yes, fascinating. I'm not sure what the difference is, but I actually said 4 walls, simply meaning that it's not open in the back. Technically, the CC has 6 walls.

Asuka, I agree that the system scale is too wee for my tastes. Nothing fits inside those houses except a table, some car seats and a bench that doubles as a bed... ;-) I definitely prefer more realism.

oh, that you did... my bad :-$ i was reading too fast and jumping to assumptions :-D

i think, technically, the CC has 7 sides, don't you :-P

8 if you're counting the top and the bottom. :-P

EDIT: 9, if you mean the angled wall...which I think you did. Geometry... :-|

I love Cafe Corner. I adore Market Street. And I'm working very hard to come up with a building which would sit along side them and compliment them perfectly. I love the details. I love the scale. The subdued and realistic colours. The sidewalks.

Cafe Corner and Market Street is what I would call the "UCS" of town. They're not normal town, and they shouldn't be. They're for people who want more detailed, lifelike, structures.

On the other hand classic town is awesome too. The primary colours grab a hold of the eye. The simple, yet effective, building techniques that even a child could utilise. Little details like a winch here, a rubbish bin there. All while retaining the charm of a toy that has long since outgrown it's target audience, and given us adults something to play with too.

Oh yes, there's definitely room in my heart for both.

While there is room in my heart for both, I voted for the new style. The fact is that Cafe Corner is still too small to be realistic, but I feel that it is a better comprimise. (No I don't want Lego to release bigger buildings. The new onese are big enough.)

This poll is an excellent idea Hinckley !!

This subject has already been touched in the "What is wrong with me?" thread, but we never had some figures.

I've voted: There's room in my heart for both!

Seems like nobody (at this moment) dislikes the new Cafe Corner style.

I like the old style building. It is more playable, with no walls on the back

I like corner cafe style for all the details in the buildings and its modularity.

There's a place in my heart for both. I can't decide just for one.

I like both: the new realistic buildings are very nice, but only if you make a whole diorama with those buildings with 4 walls and such. Personally I also like the old-style buildings, with open rear and 4-wide cars: my town is made in that style, but I like to "enrich" it with more details and more realistic proportions: so I prefer 8 or 10 studs deep buildings instead of 6-deep like the old ones, with more details and more walls compared with many official sets, but always with open rear (and 4-wide cars ;-) )

Room in my heart for both, bot only room in my wallet for old style really :(

No way could I afford to create a whole town in the cafe corner style..however beautiful it looks.

Now that is a difficult one after the cars poll! ;-)

I do love the new and more detailed way of building houses that can contain more than a bed and a chair, but some additions have to be made: Open the back! There

Klaus-Dieter, I am curious to find out why little means more enjoyable to you.

I voted classic, no surprise here.

What I do is taking classic style buildings and
