Classic town building vs. the new Cafe Corner style

There is room in my heart for both, although there is hardly room in my room....

I like the old style, was raised with it and build most of my MOC's according to it, but I like the new modular building system.

Being the poor university student that I am I really don't have the money to buy the Cafe Corner, but that is something different....

I made some modular buildings before, like in my city of some time ago, they have sort of the same big scale as Cafe Corner and Marketstreet, I liked the principle but one needs quite some bricks before just one building is erected...

When CC and MS hit the discount department I'll be first in line to pick them up. Patience, patience.... :-)

I hate Classic Town. I loathe it.

My very first LEGO set was Fire House I, followed soon by a passenger jet. Naturally I had a lot of fun imagining plane crashes... especially since those were my only LEGO sets for a very long time.

I was interested in town, but none of the other town sets interested me. This is what brought me into LEGO Castle - the sets looked more 'complete', finished, the designs had four walls, for the most part, and lots of great detail. Fire House I lacked a fourth wall, but at least it had beefy walls, it looked 'complete' to me.

This new Cafe Corner, or 'downTown' style as I like to call it, is MUCH better. Four walls, lots of detail, lots of bricks. It's actually strking a chord with me that might actually get me to expand my collection from Castle and Trains to Castle and Town/Train layouts.

But that's just me.

Salvo, you have a great style. It is an excellent balance between both styles. You have an excellent eye for details. I especially love the grill-based garbage cans. Personally, I prefer a little more architectural detail. My personal style doesn't allow for too many rows of bricks before splitting things up into some three plate details. I hope that made sense. But that is just my opinion and regardless your work is great!

I'm wondering how much your sets cost. They are designed in LDD, right? But, really, excellent work. Thanks for sharing.

I really like to see big and detailed and somehow "functional" MOCed buildings, like houses

with more than two tiny rooms where no family could really live at least a little comfortable....

I agree. I reckon the cafe' is awesome, I really love the design and could quite easily see one in my layout, but it would be nice to have smaller, less grander buildings as well to flesh out one's layout. I would make it less expensive as well!! :-D

This seems to be the general consensus. Perhpas LEGO should take CITY in this direction and build more urban type sets for the system line... :-)

I will go for the "new style", IMO the CC is one of the best sets ever.

But on the other hand there's room in my heart for both styles. I think my precious little 675 Snack Bar finds its place perfectly well in my Lego City and together with the CC and my modular MOC

You are very welcome and thanks for the info! I don't think that's a bad price for what you've designed. I bet if you uploaded it the gallery on lego.com a lot of people would purchase it. Wouldn't it be nice if we made a commission on LDD design we uploaded to the site, an LDD affiliate program. That'd be nice! :-$

I like the look of the new style, but I don't own a single one - my town is entirely classic style with some limited MOCs for good measure. Whilst my MOCs are all 4-walled structures, I'll be honest when I say that I find the CC style to be rather intimidating - if I plonked one of those down in Tabletown it would instantly render the rest of the town old-fashioned - it just wouldn't fit. :-(

I'm not saying I wouldn't buy a CC style building, but I'd probably keep it in the house, away from the town, as a curio - the problem is, my house is full of Star Wars LEGO already.
