eurotrash Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 (edited) Oriental Building My economically distressed Lego city has now developed a nascent oriental neighborhood that's getting full of some mashed-up eastern cultured cliched buildings. So, following on from my Chu Nails building http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=98216 and the Octan Travel Agent/Cupcake shop http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=98468 I'd like to now present my new Oriental Building. I was aiming for a building where you could purchase a Gremlin on Christmas Eve on the ground-floor, where Kurt Russell gets into a fight on the middle floor and where Uma Thurman can get taught by Pai Mei on the rooftop terrace. I wanted something that was a bit offset from the street so that it looked mysterious and didn't stand out from it's neighbors. I failed. And here's the rooftop terrace. Many of the parts were liberated from a Ninjago Temple of Light Set. And finally a closer shot of the facade. There's currently no interiors. Thanks for reading! Comments, criticism and ridicule most welcome! Edited September 7, 2014 by eurotrash Quote
nezz Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 the door in the middle building is great! Quote
EvilBlackSheep Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 (edited) This is amazing, I love the look of it. Nice color scheme! Is it modular and if yes, can we see what's inside both floors ? (I mean I know there is no interior, i'm just curious bout the space inside) I was really pondering about getting one or two ninjago sets (most likely hesitating between the temple of light and attack on ninjago city since they're the ones easily available) to make an asian themed building (most likely a restaurant) for my future modular city. Do you have any rec about the best sets to use for that ? Edited September 7, 2014 by EvilBlackSheep Quote
cgarison Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Nice work. You have created a regular Chinatown. Quote
lightningtiger Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Excellent modular that totally fits the bill for Chinatown......Brick On 'eurotrash' ! Quote
CityBuilder Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 The stickers on the doors and windows give it a good oriental feeling, it fits well next to the Chu, or should I say chew, nail salon. Quote
Venunder Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I think you did a good job there. Very oriental decoration but also modular european style basics. Quote
Bamos Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Very nice build I really like it but it’s hard to do dark and gloomy with the rainbow explosion next door. Bill Quote
eurotrash Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 I was really pondering about getting one or two ninjago sets .... to make an asian themed building (most likely a restaurant) for my future modular city. Do you have any rec about the best sets to use for that ? I used the Temple of Light because my wife had bought it for me in a 50% off sale. It's a good set for parts and the Mecha is excellent. I started to build an asian restaurant, but there were too many excellent examples already shown here in Eurobricks and so my early attempts got reworked into the Nail Salon. ...it fits well next to the Chu, or should I say chew, nail salon. The name of my build still amuses me way more than it should. So, I apologise for it... Thanks for all the comments! Now onto my next Oriental neighborhood building... Quote
jimmynick Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 It looks somehow naked without the other buildings around it, but when it has those other buildings, they make a great street-front. I look forward to seeing more of your modular buildings in the future. Quote
Kristel Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Nice! While you didn't achieve the effect you were going for, I definitely don't think this building is a failure! I particularly like the scalloped trim between the floors and the roof top area. Sand green with the contrasting white trims is probably not the combination for making something blend into the background. When I think of that store in the Gremlins movie, I imagine dark wood panelling. Quote
