Excellent review as always WhiteFang.

As a history and fantasy fan these last two series have been excellent. I can really see how the designers work to have a good mix for a variety of fans. While I would be pleased by an entire series on Greco-Roman focus or any other historical period, many would not. When possible I skip the sillier minifigs and the space minifigs.

However, the level of detail on City ones has lead me into the collecting modulars as well.

CMF are a great introduction or reintroduction in LEGO for many.

My favorites are the King and Egyptian Warrior. I really want a formidable Egyptian army for all my Roman soldiers and officers. But I will try to get all but the two space guys and the Lady Cyclops.

Fisherman's beard had been rubbery as i know. I don't see any LEGO figure part getting both rubery/plastic versions. I wonder what decides the material. For example, most minidoll hairs use rubbery likely due to the flexibility of inserting accessories.

Not a bad thought, but the Egyptian warriors who actually meet the Romans might be descendants. Edited by Dorayaki

I don't disagree with what you felt on the Hot Dog Guy. But the high possibility of moulding that part could be much higher and will have to reduce the production cost for the minifigure to ensure it is within, especially when the Hot Dog Suit is brand new element.

Yes, I know overall the figure costs will balance out, it is just that you wrote "parts assortment is average" - when it is a very cool new part, then existing plain legs and torso, with a new but fairly non-descript head. For this minifig, it is all about that one hot dog part! Not that it matters too much, as everyone can see the nice clear photos and make up their own minds.

I've always found that the soft rubber is used to reduce fragility for specific pieces. This looks to be the case with Sheriff's mustache, the King's beard, and the Unicorn Girl's tail. Those look like pieces that could break easy if accidentally stepped on, so making them rubber was a good choice in my opinion.

I'd also like to commend the textile designers. This is the second series in a row where I've enjoyed the new cloth pieces! It's great we're getting more than just the usual capes for textiles. The fact that they're two pieces on both the King and the Evil Wizard makes them more versatile.

I think this series is better than the last, it might not be as creative as older ones but the execution is outstanding

my favorite is the alien ( he needs some love )

Great series. Much better than the last one. I like the variety of figures. I'm more of a historical collector, but I'm really digging the space figure in this series. I love modulars, but most city figures are boring to me. But I like what I am seeing here.

I plan to get one full set and a few extras of goblins, space troopers, and kings for the capes. I know my daughter will want the Unicorn and the hot dog guy and I think she said she wanted the samurai warrior.

Softer plastic or rubber are used on parts with thin, long, or sharp sections (the ring on the mustache, the CMF spear or Lady Liberty's crown, and the Forest Maiden and Spooky Girl's hair are examples) to avoid fragility or harmfulness.

For some reason I can see the Egyptian Warrior as a shabti, a funerary statue buried with the pharaoh to assist him in the afterlife. I don't know, maybe it's the way he appears to have mummy wrappings.

Love the new series! It seems that each new series is better than the last, and with each new series I plan to get more figures than I planned for the last. Standouts for me this time are the Goblin, Female Samurai, Evil Wizard, Female Cyclops and King, with a special mention going to the Sheriff, Snake Charmer and Hot Dog guy. This series may be the first time I get all the figures, if possible.

I have to mention that I really like the textile accessories that Lego sometimes includes, seemingly with more frequency lately. For instance, I loved the Hun Warrior's felt cape... I'd really like to see that type of fabric accessory included more and more... I also like that standard traditional "cape" material is sometimes being used as a "skirt" accessory, (with the Goth Girl from Series 12, and the Bavarian Girl from a few series' back...)

I will say I like about half of the minfigs from this series because I am more into the city type themes. Absolutely love the hotdog guy.

The "mummy wrappings" are actually linnen amor. He's pretty much spot on for an Egyptian warrior :classic: . I like how they made a new "headcloth" piece instead of rehashing the pharaoh's crown.

Well, I think every CMF ever produced fits into city themes if you set your city display during Carnival. Or you can MOD the GE to make a huge Costumes Shop.

The hotdog Guy will be the easiest fig to feel ever.

Too bad no one needs an army of these.

Nah, I can totally envision a MOC of a city overrun with HDGs with zombie heads.

Thanks for the review! I love seeing the parts inventory for each minifig. That way, I can anticipate what parts from which minifigs I can put towards customizing.

I'm a bit bummed by the Space Trooper. The same helmet and as the last one, but a less exciting armor piece, no torso printing, and no Classic Space printing.

Posted

^No classic space because the insignia goes to Galaxy Squad. Also, quite often with armor there isn't under printing. They did with the Samurai thankfully, but didn't with the hot dog guy. So you never know. I don't think he needs printing since the armor looks great.I love how it allows weapons to be held instead of acting like a jetpack for once. I can't wait to pick up a handful.

I think that is the beauty of CMF, they allow everyone to get something, even if they don't love it, someone else will and continue the theme on.

Excellent review! Do you think you could give us a picture of the back of the Egyptian shield? It looks like it would fit well for a knight if printed over and flipped upside down!

Hello Sean13114,

I have just taken two new images based on your request, hope it will be of use. I will also update it into the reviewing content.

I'll be the first to admit I'm really not that into the whole CMF thing; there are a few here and there that I've picked up because they're cool, but I'm definitely not a "collector" when it comes to these guys.

That said, I must admit I do look forward to each and every review WhiteFang posts about these guys. The reviews are informative, entertaining and exceptionally well done. I really appreciate the effort, historical context and creativity that goes into them.

WhiteFang, thanks once again for a wonderful article.

(and while I'm not a CMF collector, I definitely see several Elite Galaxy Troopers in my future…)
