Posted September 8, 201410 yr Hello everyone, I have created this topic to ask you guys a simple question. Should I dismantle my Orc Forge and use the pieces for Mocing? I quite like the set and have only had it for a month, but I find I am sometimes lacking certain pieces for MOCs, and I don't have money to spend on Bricklink at the moment, so what do you guys think? Should I take it apart and possibly regret it, or shall I keep it in one piece?
September 8, 201410 yr You can always rebuild it later if you want so I say go for it. Use the pieces for other MOCs.
September 8, 201410 yr Whenever I need to borrow some pieces from an assembled set I really like, I store the rest of it (in larger chunks, if possible) in a box or plastic bag and keep it separate from the rest of my collection.
September 8, 201410 yr Yes, break it down for parts. As long as you keep your instructions, you can easily build it again later. However, I find that MOCing is more fulfilling them just building the sets.
September 8, 201410 yr That remind me one similar question - what sets from LOTR and or Hobbit line is worth to keep assembled? Orthanc and Bag End doesent count because they are marvelous..
September 8, 201410 yr I kept all of them (dont have Shelob attacks, Goblin King Battle, Orc Forge, Barrel escape and Wizards Duel)
September 8, 201410 yr I have kept Bag End, Orthanc, and Helm's Deep together so far. These. I also have the Pirate Ship Ambush together but that is because I don't see a better use for the ship hull right now.
September 8, 201410 yr Break it and should you one day regret it keep the instructions. I keep all my instructins in a drawer, when I last weighed it, it was 10kg's
September 8, 201410 yr Tear it apart. Tear it all apart! mwah-ha-ha... Or don't. I struggled with tearing a lot of buildings apart, but then I used the pieces for MOCing and it has been fun. But now trying to find all of the pieces to rebuild them is struggling, since I still have some of the MOCs together..grr. It's a lose-lose situation. Always need more pieces. Always need more display sets.
September 8, 201410 yr I never keep a MOC or official set built for more than a month or two. The downside of displays are space requirements and dust collection, but some people don't mind. For me it's more about always wanting at those bricks to make my own stuff. I've said I would rebuild all our Monster Fighters sets for Halloween this year but I probably won't. Will probably do MOCs instead!
September 9, 201410 yr I completely dismantled mine a few days after my build and must say it was a good decision. So many olive colored slopes and rock pieces
September 9, 201410 yr The greatest thing about Lego is what you fear? Tear it down don't look back... Keep the instructions as many have suggested IF you actually do rebuild it in the future.
September 9, 201410 yr As long as you keep the instructions in case you want to rebuild it, go ahead! Also, topic 99999. :O
September 9, 201410 yr I've come to a stage where I don't even bother putting the sets together anymore but put the bricks right into the mocing process. I keep the instructions though ...
September 9, 201410 yr I try to build sets, but some goes straight into the sorting bin for me aswell..Orc forge was one of them.. (I still have one in box for a rainy day but chanses are pretty high that its going into the bin pretty soon aswell) On topic.. I think You should break it down, its a god parts pack in all..the only set i kept intact so far in the LoTHR /Hobbit line) is Bag End.. but Im serously thinking of MOD'ing it UCS sets and modular houses are nice for display, other sets are screaming to be modded or taken apart!
September 9, 201410 yr My plan is keep everything together until I have the last hobbit/LOTR set then take a picture or two and then start to break down over time until only the best are left. I really like orc forge, I would definitely want it up more than a month and it will be one of the last to go. Edited September 9, 201410 yr by SMC
September 9, 201410 yr If you have Orthanc, then the Orc Forge looks really good displayed below it. Especially if you have a glass shelf.
September 9, 201410 yr Break down every single set you still have complete and you'll have way more pieces to build MOCs.
September 9, 201410 yr everyone says you can build it again but if you make a large MOC it takes some time getting those parts back sorted
