Disco86 Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 (edited) We are running the Star Wars Olympics now at our german forum Imperium der Steine, this is my entry to the third round. I also uploaded my entries to round 1 and round 2 here on Eurobricks. I had to build something of my choice from the Expanded Universe. This scene shows the cloning facility in the Mount Tantiss on Wayland, known from the Thrawn Trilogy. I tried to combine the style from Kamino with imperial grey and black. If you don't know anything about the Thrawn Trilogy, I highly recommend to read it, or get the audio book, it is really intersting and exciting. Greets Disco Edited October 13, 2014 by Disco86 Quote
LucasLaughing Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Awesome work! So many great details - I love how you did the ground-level door and the white stripes/SNOT work on the floor - very subtle but nice effect. Quote
MontyPython Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Fantastic scene, I really like the details - doors, lift and all those minifigs!! - and whole scene is really a great piece of art. Quote
Zerobricks Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Awesome use of lights! Looks creepy in a good way. Quote
Outworlder Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 i think is moc is amazing. Nice to see expanded universe scenes created in lego. I escpecially like the the clonining chambers and rock walling. Superb! Quote
Manx Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Beautiful diorama with, as others say before, great details. Quote
Venkefedo Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Great build! I like the little conveyor-bits for the armor, helmets, weapons... the techs & their little 'cherry picker'... the squad assembly area, the door... the cloning cylinders... all that's missing is a Thrawn to check in on the progress, and a whole mess of ysalamiri! IenjoyLego89 Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Amazing build! Love all the SNOT work :) Quote
Only Sinner Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 This is beautiful. You've got some really clean looking Stormtroopers there. As these ones are clones, I guess they could be called Shinies. Love the snot and the great lighting detail. Quote
Robianco Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 The build on this looks fantastic and the lighting is really well done. There's something very eerie about the whole scene. I'm amazed there hasn't been some kind of meltdown over the amount of OT Stormtroopers there are on display on this thing! ;) Quote
Venkefedo Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 I'm amazed there hasn't been some kind of meltdown over the amount of OT Stormtroopers there are on display on this thing! ;) There are 10 old-style stormies and 7 'full' newer-style stormies, leg printing & all, with an 8th torso as well. Impressive, but nothing to have a meltdown over just yet (had the other 10 been ISD stormies, too, then heads might explode!) Nice. Which tank has Luke's clone? Luke's clone was probably grown in another part of the facility... can't have the grunts knowing that Thrawn's crazy wizard is making another crazy wizard that can wipe them out in no time! Quote
Smitty500 Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Yikes!! Are those spikes shoved in their feet/legs I see??(empty chamber) Almost like they have been injection molded Quote
Disco86 Posted October 15, 2014 Author Posted October 15, 2014 Thousand thanks for your great feedback ! I hope this is enough to reach the next round, because my opponent is the almighty markus1984 ... all that's missing is a Thrawn to check in on the progress, and a whole mess of ysalamiri! The contest rules do not allow customized figs, and there is no matching blue head unfortunately. I did not really understand where and how the Ysalamiri are used, so I did not add any. But may have locked cool to have some. This is beautiful. You've got some really clean looking Stormtroopers there. I am an AFOL, so they are kept in an perfect environment and never have "played" with them. Also half of them is brand new There are 10 old-style stormies and 7 'full' newer-style stormies, leg printing & all, with an 8th torso as well. Impressive, but nothing to have a meltdown over just yet (had the other 10 been ISD stormies, too, then heads might explode!) You counted them right. And I agree to you that this not such a great number of troopers. I thought about buying ten more of the new ones, but they are still expensive. Hopefully they will get cheaper some day... Yikes!! Are those spikes shoved in their feet/legs I see??(empty chamber) Almost like they have been injection molded Of course they are Quote
BJM Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 This really is a great build. I wish you luck. So clean indeed. I have really enjoyed just now reading all the comments too (and your replies). The mighty storm trooper differences debate will be with us for a long time to come. Luckily there are 2 new mods on EB to keep us civil. Quote
BEAVeR Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Such a beautiful creation, Disco86! It has both amazing shiny artificial elements, incredible chaotic natural elements, and the golden touch of blending the two perfectly to make it feel realistic (only the area with the elevator: it's great that this area is smooth, but I would imagine to get it completely smooth, it should be a bit deeper into the wall to counter the depressions in it). And the presentation is of course top-notch. I really like how efficient it all looks, with not a brick too much. The blue glow really gives it something special. Especially when it's combined with those tubes and those silent figures, it gives a very menacing look to the build. The platforms with the conveyors for the torso's, helmets and blasters are a nice touch as well, as they give insight in the way everything works and make it look even more efficient. You did a great job in depicting this 'human factory', but I wish you had taken it maybe a bit further. Right now, it's very unclear how the newly 'born' clones get from their tanks to the next stage, and it all feels very hurried: they're just ready to take-away? They get a blaster 10 seconds after they've become conscious? I'm sure I'm missing the bigger story here, but it would have been nice if you showed it to us clearer, as that would give even more of the menacing industrial feel to the build. Anyway: great build! There's a lovely atmosphere to it, but still lacks a bit of a story, despite your best efforts. Best of luck in the contest! While you're fighting on IdS, here's something a bit more friendly: Quote
markus1984 Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Oh Paul my friend . Its really a pleasure to build against you - for me is this the "small final" . Your work is also fantastic in all details and the LED`s looks so perfect to this clone chambers. Absolut hard round and am really looking forward to the results. Think it is very, very tight. Wish you good luck and see us in the next SoNE build . markus Quote
MKJoshA Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 I'm glad you've finally posted this on EB! You've done a great job coming up with a Lego look for the cloning chamber. Great job! Quote
Lord Tyrus Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Yes, It's good to see it on Eurobricks, not just flickr, anyway, onto the MOC! As I said on Markus' build, I'm a VERY big fan of Zahn's trilogy, and this captures it brilliantly, just like Markus'. I love the sleek, clean feel to it all, and you say you two are against each other? This is going to be very close....! Quote
Disco86 Posted October 30, 2014 Author Posted October 30, 2014 Thanks a lot for your tremendous Feedback ! I am glad you like my creation, even if I lost this round of our contest against Markus. @Beaver: This build Looks a bit rushed because it was a contest as you know. Sometimes there is just not the time to make something perfect. But I am going to stop competing in contests soon, to avoid rushed builds. Special thanks for Blogging ! Your article about our builds is great. Quote
goatman461 Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 I am going to stop competing in contests soon You better not quit SoNE. What would Markus's stormtrooper do without you? Besides, rushed or not, you are seriously raising the bar with these builds. Quote
Disco86 Posted October 30, 2014 Author Posted October 30, 2014 You better not quit SoNE. What would Markus's stormtrooper do without you? Besides, rushed or not, you are seriously raising the bar with these builds. SoNE is not really what I meant with contests. It is a roleplay game with some competition. I meant contest with multiple rounds or a huge amount of builds you have to do. I want to build more what I think about and not what some contest-makers think I should build. But SoNE is realxing, even if I am not rushing to enter the episodes anymore... Quote
