madoka Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 (edited) They are now out there. Man, I would be ticked if I got one of those if I paid for real Lego. Yet I'm somewhat curious as to it's quality. Link to Ebay auction of set with shako Also black/gold imperial guard torsos: Link to Ebay auction Man, look at the gaps between the bricks! QC is seriously lacking. Siegfried Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 (edited) I think this was talked about in the chinese knock-off threads sometime back. Even so, I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few takers, fake or not. Shakos are expensive and rare on BrickLink. There is a whole tread here discussing the problem. http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...=9386&hl=shakos At first I thought this was about the customs that BrickForge are supposed to be bringing out. Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted July 24, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted July 24, 2007 You guys seem to have a nice little OFF-TOPIC discussion.... So let's stop that and go back to the shako under discussion !! I've added a picture in the first post so we all see what we are talking about. This is one of these Chinese clone brands, but it is interesting to see what their shako looks like. It is different from the official Lego shako. The main difference is "the plume". I prefer the Lego shako. It's plume looks better than this one. But if these were available in big amounts (for a reasonable price), I would consider buying them. Thanks Madoka for this interesting find ! Quote
Capn Frank Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 My brother has a couple of those shakos. It snaps onto the head real well, but i've never placed one on any official lego heads though The interior where the stud snaps onto is different from the lego shako. I can go get them and "experiment" on them if any would like or has any questions? P Quote
Grand Moff Viceroy Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 (edited) I remember seing chinese ripoffs and how lego destroyed a lot of them The worst was with bionicle, everything the same except the name. I have about five shakos. Edited July 28, 2007 by Grand Moff Viceroy Quote

Dont meen to be a bad guy to anyone but Im Oredring a Whole bunch of imperial fake sets from my mate in Hong Kong his called Randoll Cheung his got a really cool copy of the SES But its like 2 BSBs added to make one. Ive brought a Fake BSB from him and its brilliant. Ill get pics if you guys want its actually quite good. :-D Quote
tedbeard Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 At first I thought this was about the customs that BrickForge are supposed to be bringing out. Will they still consider this or has ImperialScouts torpedoed the whole project (RTV Mold thread)? I would much rather see quality ABS parts produced so I hope BF will still be able to justify the development and production of new shakos in the face of these silicon knock-offs. Quote

I would rather see them made otherwise, because I'm having some trouble with getting the piece out of the mold without breaking. But these resins are very strong and if you do them right it'll look good. But there is absolutely no need to put negatives on my project. Quote

A small set containing a cannon and a couple shako's would be good to buy in bulk if they were lik 50c each or something. Does he have an internet shop or something, or is he just a mate who sends you stuff? I'd love a whole pile of knockoff Blue baseplates for ocean scenes. Quote

Well Im he is a company ill tell you the name in a while, anyway im getting a clone Skull Island and a Armada flagship but the really thing good is with the skull island you get a officer and shako troop also alot of pirates and with the imperial armada you get 3 troops one like Admiral and 2 pirates and the ship has 2 cannons and a proper cabin. It looks really good *y* Quote
tedbeard Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 I don't think he was putting down your project... Thanks for the kind thought but sadly I am indeed questioning the wisdom of the project. I do want to say that I think resin casting has it's place and ImperialScouts does seem to be very good at it and I don't think resin products would be a rip-off as a custom accessory nor likely a huge money maker. So to be clear, I think ImperialScouts is doing this as a service for good motivations without any hope of making gobs of cash. I just don't think it's necessary until or unless we know shakos will NOT be produced in abs by BrickForge. I'm sorry if this is seen as being negative but, as resin casts can never be as good as what could be produced by Brick Forge, if this project could in any way interfere with that development then I must protest. Go ahead, make some shakos for yourself but will you be selling enough of them in bulk to make the potential BF product not financially viable? I am not a big advocate of monopolies but is the market really big enough for two vendors of LEGO-compatible Shakos? Maybe it is but I do not know the break-even number for BF molds. It probably does not help that reproduction of LEGO parts can lead to problems of fakes being sold as genuine in the re-sale market. Am I the only one who objects to forgery? A new and unique BF product cannot be passed-off as a LEGO product. Adding a "badge" or removing the plume or something that would make it "not-LEGO" but still compatible should be possible for a resin cast. So, to summarize, if ImperialScouts was producing a unique design AND there was sufficient interest from AFOLs to justify BF continuing their development and production I would have no objection whatsoever. Scouty Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Well, I'm trying this out for experience as well, though, I'm having problems. I may go and look to an alt...or not. I see now that what you are saying is not negative. The resin I have comes with creamy, white, black, and some other dyes that make it into many colors, even metallic colors. Of course, you should know that I can not get the high-qualty metal molds brickforge gets, and get's very good pieces. So, this is a thing, for me, to have fun with. I may or may not drop it, depends on what happens. Quote

shinohara Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 got around 29-30 fake shakos from ebay about a year ago from a guy in HK. it cost me around US$30 incl shipping.. but I got US$15 refund because he didn't stated the shako was not original Lego pieces .. the fit was ok not great .. but the look of the shako is great .. but since I 'm a lego purist so I put them aside for now Quote
